Obamateurism of the Day
posted at 8:05 am on December 10, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Let’s put this one in the “57 states” category of Barack Obama stumbles, which we now know all great speakers make. At the beginning of his remarks on the bipartisan meeting on jobs, Obama either attempted to ad-lib an introduction, or TOTUS decided to trip him up. Obama claims that he took office “last year”:
THE PRESIDENT: Hello, everybody. Sorry I’m a little late. I have just concluded an informative and constructive discussion with Republican and Democratic leaders about job creation and our economic future. We spoke about the challenges facing our families, our businesses, and our country as a whole, and what we can do to overcome them. Today’s meeting built on some of the ideas that I offered in the economic speech that I gave yesterday and on some of the ideas discussed at the Job Forum that we held at the White House last week.
Looking at the situation we face today, what’s clear is that our economy is in a very different place than it was when I took office last year.
Feels like forever to us, too, Mr. President — but actually, you took office this year. In fact, it was less than 11 months ago, on January 20, 2009. If this is what your Teleprompter actually had on the screen, it’s time to fire a speechwriter … but don’t let Chris Matthews know you had one. He’d need a tinglectomy. (via Andrew Malcolm, linked above)

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Obviously he’s referring to the Office of the President-Elect.

It seems much longer to him because, for the first time in his life, he actually has to work.

What a dumba$$. Now he is in Norway talking down to the world. I find it ironic that he is accepting the “Peace Prize” while defending his actions in Afghanistan. His arrogance is disgusting and will be his downfall.
milwife88 on December 10, 2009 at 8:16 AM
Can Obowma be any more lame? He dissed the whole affair of his Nobel Prize, too. This guy is a global embarrassment!
Liam on December 10, 2009 at 8:17 AM
but don’t you remember that he was going to be the one to bring America back into the good graces of the world…

When you’re organizing a community, particularly a large one like the United Community of America, time is of little relevance.
TXUS on December 10, 2009 at 8:20 AM
OK, just walked past a tv which had CNN on with Dear Liar giving a speech. The CNN talking point (? or whatever you call the text box highlighting a speech’s point) was “Obama: we have never gone to war against a democracy”.
Now I realize that Great Britain does have a monarch who actually did have some power 200 years ago, but England has had a long tradition of contested elections for the House of Parliament. Even before the War of 1812.
The Whine is fundamentally ignorant of actual history, He has been spoon-fed marxist pablum His whole life but has no real knowledge.

As is his entire political life.

I honestly tried to listen to his Nobel speech. He’s our President. He/we are getting a (formerly) significant world recognition. That was the spirit in which I tried to listen.
What an absolute douchebag.

Too bad the irony of his double standard will be lost on Chrissie.
KS Rex on December 10, 2009 at 8:39 AM
I attempted to live blog, but my fingers couldn’t believe what he was saying:
“President Obama receiving his “Nobel Prize” when he was just a Senator over a year ago” says some one on MSNBC. Mika says “perhaps he needed to go there to honor the troops”, while Thomas Friedman makes his feeble attempt to reconcile Obama’s decision to ramp up the war in Afghanistan saying he’s “deeply troubled”.
President Obama: “I’m here because I am the Commander in Chief of our military” blah blah blah
I finally had to shut the tv off lisening to another of his apology tour speeches. Just as his audience in the room felt uneasy and confused, so did most of the rest of the world.
I’ve come to the conclusion that President Obama really truly believes he is a leader of the world, when he is the elected President of the United States. While continuing his apology tour for our transgressions against our enemies, he is structurally handcuffing our military with every word from his mouth. I guess, (in a time of war), we can hope he is lying to the world’s stage, just as he has lied to his own nation. Why didn’t this president just accept this phony and unjustified award and walk away? It should have been his mission to Oslo. Instead, we get an hour of pure rhetorical BS thinking he is relevant on the world’s stage. Arrogance again triumphs over humility and reason. And “the joke” is again on all of us. What an embarassment.
Rovin on December 10, 2009 at 8:41 AM
i’m glad he told the Nobel people this a.m. that we are loving up on some Muslims here. because it was all Boooosh’s fault that we didn’t love Muslims which was the cause of 9/11.
and because we are no longer a Christian nation & love Muslims so much, we shouldn’t be at war on terror anywhere, right?
what am i missing?

It’s because he was president of the other 7 states, in his mind.
In January he took over being president of the original 50 states.
So you see it all works, it’s Obamathink.

His use of “I” as often as possible does me in. I think it is why he never had anything published. Can you imagine. “I” was probably in every sentence.

The Obama presidency reminds me of a couple that had the best wedding you ever saw…
…and the worst marriage.
I have never looked to the future with so much hope in all my life. 2012 is the end of the world for some but it’s the world I’m looking forward to.

OK..this is from a report about his speech. “Civilians being slaughtered by their own government.” Well, that covers Iran, Uganda, now they are killing gays and doesnt Hugo Chavez routinely kill his citizens? The Iraqis were being slaughtered, Afghanis and in Darfur. Georgia was invaded by the Soviets.
He’s confusing me!

YOU OWN THE PAIN MR. PRESIDENT!
(Spoken in a Keith O. style rant) It has been since February 17 of 2009 some nine months ago — or 6,480 hours, Mr. President — when the $787 unread bill was passed — loaded with pork and unread because of the rush to prevent a total economic collapse — or so you said — and we have a mountain of debt to pass to future generations — our unborn children or our children’s children — the bill had to be passed and passed fast to keep unemployment below 8%. That is RIGHT Mr. President! EIGHT PERCENT! We are over TEN PERCENT Mr. President AND THE PEOPLE SUFFERING NOW BELIEVED THE LIE ABOUT SHOVEL READY PROJECTS — REMEMBER THE SPECIFIC LIE YOU TOLD? (there are so many, Mr. President). What do you say to the unemployed in this holiday season, Mr President? The rate was 7.6 per cent when the bill was passed. You don’t even know where the money went do you? How many jobs did it create? And lets talk about the jobs for Secretary Clinton’s pollsters, you corrupt piece of filth — was it half a million dollars per job — with money to be paid back by our future generations…

Have you considered renaming this column “Obamashlemazelism of the Day”?
Shy Guy on December 10, 2009 at 10:14 AM
I dunno, I suppose [A] blowing off the King of Sweden’s lunch invite, or [B] taking a pass on visiting his own ‘exhibit’ at the Peace Prize Center would have been stronger contenders.
But it was a suck-@ss speech, never-the-less.
Besides, ‘tradition’ is so passe. /s

Is it just me or do you find it hard to click on yet ANOTHER lame speech by OBAMA? Thanks for the transcription, Ed. I just couldn’t listen. Obama gives speeches while America burns!
Christian Conservative on December 10, 2009 at 10:34 AM
The importance of the day that Obama took office pales in comparison to the day that he leaves office. I’m hoping for that change sometime in January 2013.

JeffinSac on December 10, 2009 at 10:58 AM
Well, he thinks he did take office last year, what with that office of the president-elect stuff.
In fact, he probably thinks he took office ever since the styrofoam columns, or the campaign speech in Germany.
You’d think the American people would have rejected him just over the styrofoam columns alone.
But nooooooooo, everybody had to prove how tolerant they were of everything, including middle names and people who spent their formative years in other countries, and their later years among commie friends.
OK, everybody’s proved it. Now could we have some common sense again?
Alana on December 10, 2009 at 11:06 AM
Because we just can’t get enough of seeing his face and hearing his voice…
OT: DerLeader will not only be on Oprah’s special “Christmas at the White House” this Sunday from 10-11 p.m. on ABC, but he’ll also be on 60 Minutes (7 p.m., CBS) giving an interview about the Afghanistan troop buildup.

But, Odamna is so good at speechifying. How could the smartest man in the world keep making such stupid mistakes? Could the data about his high IQ have been falsified or misinterpreted???
I know I’m wishing my life away but I wish it was 2012 already.

Obama did nothing for Black people.
Afterall, he is not Black he is Marxist.
White people are so stupid for letting him win by 7 points, “It feels so good to vote in a Black”, I honestly heard that quote.

The way he built up the transition office of the president you could definitely tell the man thought he was president before even being sworn in. Didn’t help that the media was fawning over his every word.
