Gore responds to Palin on climate change: “It’s like gravity. It exists.”

Don’t be daunted by the length. His comments on Palin and Climategate, replete with lies about how old the e-mails are, come within the first four minutes. (The Goracle’s never been good with guesstimates.) The left’s been breathing into a paper bag since last night over WaPo’s decision to run her op-ed, but Gore’s response here is comparatively restrained. Instead of grandstanding for his base by calling her a yokel or whatever, he sticks to his argument and declines to attack her personally. Presumably that’s because he’s a bit more politically savvy than his carbon-belching pals at Copenhagen and would rather not make this more of a partisan issue than it already is. Or maybe he simply doesn’t want to alienate someone like Palin who accepts that climate change is happening and even concedes that man may be contributing to it. She could be useful to him eventually in forging a consensus that global warming is real, even if the debate over its chief cause will rage on.

For the moment, however, the message machine is preoccupied with the scandal du jour:

COPENHAGEN — “Climategate” has muddied the good green message that was supposed to come out of the United Nations climate change talks here, forcing leaders to spend time justifying the science behind global warming when they want to focus on ending it…

“I think this is a completely annoying distraction,” added Kim Carstensen, leader of the World Wildlife Fund’s Global Climate Initiative. “It’s very clear that this has been done to discredit climate research. … It’s a bluff. There’s nothing in it; it’s just a huge distraction.”…

“It’s another Internet frenzy thing,” Goldmark told POLITICO Wednesday. “These things get a life, and they reproduce themselves like little bacteria. … Our attitude is, it’s the same old stuff from the same old people, and it doesn’t change the science at all. None of the NGOs pay a lot of attention to it.”

Actually, the most interesting exchange here isn’t the Palin or Climategate, it’s Gore’s palpable disappointment at around 11:45 that The One decided to make ObamaCare the focus of his first year instead of cap and trade. That’s good political sense — health care has been the left’s top domestic priority for ages and it’s always stood a better chance of getting through the Senate than C&T — but like George Will said yesterday, if Earth truly is in the balance then what the hell are they doing putting this off until next year? How much of a crisis can it really be?

Completely agree with you about Upinak, she’s always levelheaded and a great poster. She doesn’t need me to defend her but such name-calling is beyond the pale. A reasonable discussion is one thing but over the top rhetoric such as that by johngalt23 is never appropriate.

Ris4victory on December 9, 2009 at 7:43 PM

You might want to ask that question of those advocating armed rebellion against this government, and claim that they will have the armed forces on their side. In my worst hallucinations, I’ve never been that tough.

And calling for armed revolt isn’t venting one’s frustrations… it is sedition. And while it may be little more than onscreen intellectual masturbation from the wing-nut fringe (which it certainly is), it reflects poorly on all of us who call ourselves conservatives here.

Puh-leez. You bunch could teach the whining sob-sister left a thing or two, now couldn’t you?

And for the record, the Barney Frank “quote” was perfectly legitimate parody based on Barney’s own abrasive nature, which is once again in the news as we speak. Get outside of your echo chamber and you might get a clue on the larger picture.

Zero tolerance. ZERO. Take it up with Allahpundit.
I didn’t make that policy, he did. We’ll see what he thinks about your “joke”. I did not find it funny, or a good reflection on this blog or the people responsible for it.

Let’s see how they feel about it.

Good night and good luck.

Gore replied that the scientific community has worked on this issue for 20 years.
“It’s a principle in physics. It’s like gravity. It exists.”

Seriously, is Al Gore now claiming GRAVITY is man made?

Is Al Gore claiming GRAVITY is affected by man?

Is Al Gore claiming that due to the fact “the scientific community has worked on this issue for 20 years”, therefore it must be true?

“In response, Gore said that “the deniers are persisting in an era of unreality. The entire North Polar icecap is disappearing before our eyes… What do they think is happening?” “

Ahhhhhhhh Al, that was CGI.

It’s not really “ disappearing before our eyes”

Jezzz does this guy think there’s a whole bunch of little people inside his TV set?

lonestar1 on December 9, 2009 at 8:13 PM

I’m sure he just miss spoke.

He has a problem with numbers and units, not ta mention conversions.

Remember his worst case scenario? Sea levels will rise 23ft?

Somehow he confused 23cm (centimeters) with feet, opps.

23cm is 9.05in
23ft is 276in

“Earth’s core temperature is estimated at around 5000 to 7000 degrees Celsius.” 5300–7300 K

Ya I see what he did here. He tried to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit

C X 1.8 + 32 =F
7000 X 1.8 = 12600 + 32 = 12632F

He must of just added a bunch of zeros, hey who would know!

DSchoen on December 9, 2009 at 8:43 PM

I hope Sarah keeps presenting solutions. She makes sense, and I agree with Gore that there is, clearly, a problem.

I don’t like the way this debate becomes all about the science.

AnninCA on December 9, 2009 at 8:49 PM

I don’t like the way this debate becomes all about the science.

That’s the only debate that matters and is of value. If, as it appears the science has been corrupted its a reasonable response to say “hang on do we really have a problem?”.

I have yet to see anything that proves the changes that are going are on are nothing by the natural flux of Earth and the Solar cycle at work. What’s the ideal state our planet should exist in?

The heart of the debate IS THE SCIENCE!

Sharr on December 9, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Palin’s on it. She’s responded to Algore:

Steven Hayward has a great article in The Weekly Standard on the Climategate scandal. Be sure to check it out.

The response to my op-ed by global warming alarmists has been interesting. Former Vice President Al Gore has called me a “denier” and informs us that climate change is “a principle in physics. It’s like gravity. It exists.”

Perhaps he’s right. Climate change is like gravity – a naturally occurring phenomenon that existed long before, and will exist long after, any governmental attempts to affect it.

However, he’s wrong in calling me a “denier.” As I noted in my op-ed above and in my original Facebook post on Climategate, I have never denied the existence of climate change. I just don’t think we can primarily blame man’s activities for the earth’s cyclical weather changes.

Former Vice President Gore also claimed today that the scientific community has worked on this issue for 20 years, and therefore it is settled science. Well, the Climategate scandal involves the leading experts in this field, and if Climategate is proof of the larger method used over the past 20 years, then Vice President Gore seriously needs to consider that their findings are flawed, falsified, or inconclusive.

Vice President Gore, the Climategate scandal exists. You might even say that it’s sort of like gravity: you simply can’t deny it.

I bolded my favorite parts. ;)

AnninCA on December 9, 2009 at 8:49 PM

The major issue I have besides the questionable science behind AGW is that Mr. Gore does not live like their is a problem. He uses more energy in a month than I do in two years. If he honestly believed that energy sourced from CO2 emitting compounds was catastrophic he would prove it by his life style. He is the ultimate hypocrite.
The real science shows that there have been a large number of periods in between glacial periods in which warming has been higher by several degrees than current and the speed of the warming much faster. All of these periods occurred before the industrial revolution and man’s larger emissions of CO2.

The Cato Institute presents a position paper that faults the EPA Endangerment Ruling: http://www.cato.org/pubs/journal/cj29n3/cj29n3-8.pdf

A quick summary of the critique says that the EPA “relied on outdated ‘foundational’ documents” (some of which we now know are flawed)’ that it “ignored human adaptation to climate change”; that “no independent peer review in the scientific (not political) sense took place”; and that it “was influenced by publication bias.”

One other point of significance is that the Cato study objects to the lumping of carbon dioxide in with the other endangering gases.

The Cato publication, well-substantiated with studies by notable scientists, also details six examples of errors in the proposed (now stated) endangerment ruling.

Allowing a federal agency to wield such far-reaching power over our economy and our energy policy is downright criminal without further serious scrutiny.

How about updating with Sarah’s snappy reply to this idiot Gore.

Oh, and I think you misrepresent her thoughts on “climate change.”

On purpose, or just dumb? Which are you?

proconstitution on December 9, 2009 at 10:38 PM

I’m waiting for the day to see Al Gore actually debate someone on “Global Warming”. As far as I know, he hasn’t. He just says the debate is over.
Umm, Mr. Gore, why don’t you make yourself available to a debate with someone with an opposing point of view so we can determine if your argument is valid? Of course, we all know what his answer will be. He’s nothing more than a charlatan.

I think the question would be who would ever be in a position to tell gore….certainly no one he prefers to talk to, they wouldn’t point it out even if they were smart enough to recognize the error. And we already know he’s NEVER gonna actually debate anyone with knowledge of the science, he’d come off looking even dumber about it than he already does (yes, that is possible).

Climate change is exactly like gravity. It’s there, it’s been there since the Earth was formed, and it’s (at least predominantly) a result of natural phenomena.

The difference is that we more or less understand gravity.

Anthropogenic global warming is the 21st century equivalent of witchcraft – you see something, you don’t quite know how to explain it, you make up a theory, browbeat others into supporting it, pick a villain you do understand and attack it.

I have not the words to describe my feeling about Gore.

I thought of words such as liar, snake oil salesman, hypocrite, dummy, fool, socialist, arsehole, devious, nasty, scam artist, arrogant, etc.

Like I said, I just can`t think of all the billions of bad words to describe this creep like so many geothermal degrees.

If only one particular individual primitive man had been eaten by that saber tooth tiger, we might not have algora leader of the holy rolling global warming cult to deal with today. That goes for some other illiberals, too.

I wish we had some more animal-caused disasters in the past to deal with these descendants.

Mammoths coulda fell on `em.

IN THE UNIVERSE OF LIES, HE’S THE BROTHER OF ZEUS.

Gore is a crybaby loser (THANK GOD) of the 2000 election.

He’s a lying hypocrite.

He and his other lying minions have had the veil ripped away by the only member of the GOP (girly men all) to call them out on it……..SARAH HEATH PALIN.

HERE’S AN IDEA FOR EVERY LIBERAL THAT REALLY….REALLY WANTS TO END CO2 EMISSIONS ON THIS PLANET…

This will probably be part of mandated Obamacare so I’m trying to beat the rush by mentioning it.

Okay….LIBS….attention!!!

You get a raft made of previously cut down timber (old logs) and you tie all about 10 or 12 logs together with natural rope. Then you set off to an area offshore near a proposed reef. Then you cut yourself and bleed and throw yourself overboard (make sure you anchored down the raft so it will make a good reef when it finally sinks).

This will FINALLY put your money where your mouth is. You can eliminate your CO2 emissions (reducing them to zero actually). You’ll feed local marine life (helping the eco system) and you’ll build a sustainable future for all the little feeshies below. Oh, and one more plus….the world will be rid of another lying liberal. (Of course, I’m kidding).

Hey, with China and now even some Canadians pushing a one child policy how far can it be until the Government can mandate how we die? or when?

Rafts anyone?

PappyD61 on December 10, 2009 at 9:41 PM

Meanwhile in Chicago we have sub-zero temperatures before winter. We could use some global warming, it wouldn’t be such a bad thing.

nazo311 on December 11, 2009 at 12:08 AM

The only question with global warming, er climate change since for the last ten years there is a drop in temperature, is qui bono? Who makes money on this scam? I noticed ManBearPig is outside of his CO2 waste of a house and CO2 waste of a private jet to counter charges of falsifying science. He stands to become a billionaire if this garbage ever gets enacted into a law that will bankrupt the citizens of the United States. The only thing that comes to mind when I see ManBearPig is “Get a Rope.”

Tennesseans don’t question Gore’s intentions as they are obviously apparent. What they do question is his sanity. Liberalism is a mental disorder and Gore is in the latter stages. Liberals prove the line between being naive and being incompetent is non-existant. Being intelligent and naive or being stupid and incompetent equals the same results. Gore and Obama are living proof.

The heart of the debate IS THE SCIENCE!

Sharr on December 9, 2009 at 9:39 PM

Yes, but maybe that is a pointless debate.

Climate change happens; the world has been getting warmer since the last ice age. If the warming continues then there will be effects we humans don’t like, so it makes sense to consider what adjustments we should make.

We could be discussing how to transform today’s deserts into tomorrow’s fields and gardens, how to relocate people from areas that were inhabitable to areas that will be inhabitable, how to reduce pollution in general, how to contain population growth without having wars.

But instead of those interesting and useful discussions we have this endless, pointless squabble about
a substance which is the major building block of life.
