Shock poll: Huckabee’s numbers up since last month?
posted at 8:14 pm on December 8, 2009 by Allahpundit
Just a teaser from PPP, but stunning enough that it’s worth mentioning now.
Maybe Palin will have to think about that third-party run after all.
Our monthly look at the 2012 Presidential race, due out Thursday, will show Huckabee’s favorability at 35/35, pretty much unchanged from 36/37 on our November poll. And not only does it show him once again as the Republican who comes closest to Barack Obama, but it also shows him coming closer to Obama than he has in any of the previous nine monthly polls.
Does that mean he’s getting a free pass on the Washington cop killings by an inmate whose sentence he commuted? Probably not. I’m sure that would be a massive liability if he did get into the 2012 Republican field, and used effectively against him by his opponents. But it’s a good reminder that the vast majority of Americans do not live and die by the 24 hour news cycle. Huckabee’s numbers haven’t changed because more than likely few voters who didn’t already have their minds made up about him are familiar with his connection to last week’s tragedy.
Is that the answer, that news of the Clemmons clemency simply hasn’t trickled down to most voters? Huck mentioned it on his show, and it’s been bantered about enough on conservative talk radio that you’d think there would be a downturn of a few points among Republicans, at least. Palin tweaked him about it on Lars Larson’s show just a few days ago, in fact: “I don’t have a whole lot of mercy for the bad guys. I’m on the good guys’ side.” And yet, he’s untouched. Not that it matters terribly, given that his primary opponents will beat him over the head with it, but based on this, his favorables are more resilient than I would have guessed.
Then again, this is PPP we’re talking about. Remember “Hoffman by 19″? Exit question: Er, didn’t Palin tell Rush Limbaugh just a few weeks ago that America’s not ready for a third party?

Learn how to read dumbass. I was talking about you! Every time you post, you prove that you are stupid and delusional.
Norman Blizter on December 8, 2009 at 11:31 PM
It kind of shows you how irrelevant polls are.
Dasher on December 8, 2009 at 11:35 PM
Sooo this Huckabee poll post 3 years out of the next election was just a masquerade to snipe at Palin. Got it.
AP, save yourself some time and just type “Huckabee not as bad as you think – Palin stupid” for every headline from now on. It requires less BS in the actual post.

Would that be his son the dog-killer? I will be right behind everyone leaving the party and as angry as they have made me in the past, it will be nothing compared to the anger of Huck being our next nominee. Never thought I would ever say that.
margategop517 on December 8, 2009 at 11:52 PM
Let’s go ask some people in Utah if Huckabee is a uniter.
Kataklysmic on December 8, 2009 at 11:58 PM
Guess who wants Chucki to run in 2012?
McCain II.
Speakup on December 9, 2009 at 12:11 AM
Silly Pundit, Huck only kids…
There won’t be another Huckarun for President.
He needs Fox News to snipe at Mitt Romney while he runs.
P.S. Fox should fire Huckabee.
scotash on December 9, 2009 at 12:13 AM
While we’re at it, lets ask Washington and Arkansas if he’s tough on crime…
I don’t think they will but it would be nice. The show is free advertising for his Presidential run in 2012.

See that Ed, Michelle, Allahpundit? Crime doesn’t pay. Who do you think you’re trying to fool. Again, learn from me. I’ll learn from you. We have to get Mike Huckabee in a debate with Obama! WE MUST!!

As usual, AP is confused. AP still can’t figure out Sarah Palin.
Palin didn’t say “SHE WILL RUN A THIRD PARTY”.
She said that GOP should rethink and avoid a Third Party contest. How? She said that GOP should clean its own house.
TheAlamos on December 9, 2009 at 2:05 AM
If I am asked if I favor Huck … I will answer YES.
If favor Huck as compared to Obama. That doesn’t mean that I will support him “again” for his next Presidential run.
Why people like me matter to Huck’s ambitions? I supported Huck when Fred T stopped his run in the 2008 primaries.
But things have changed and Huck has revealed so much of his beta-male qualities.
Like Palin, let me say it to Huck:
IT WAS A BAD DECISION, HUCK. ADMIT IT.
TheAlamos on December 9, 2009 at 2:10 AM
Who gives a rat’s patootie if Huckabee’s numbers move now or not? The bottom line is that primary opponents would roast him on his clemency history – this isn’t even the tip of the tip of the iceberg in that regard – and if he managed to win anyway it would only make Obama the “law ‘n’ order” candidate. Great start!
`
Face the facts: Huckabee has a very low ceiling of support, and will never win the GOP nomination and certainly not the Presidency.

If the Republicans put up Huckabee and Palin runs as a Democrat I’ll be out there campaigning for Palin let alone voting for her.

Palin’s a politician too. But she’s had more of an effect on the debate via a Facebook account than Huckabee has had with a TV show on the most-catched cable news channel. That tells me a lot.

The polls show all of the GOP within a hair of one another. Way too early for 3rd party talk.
AnninCA on December 9, 2009 at 7:53 AM
Mark my words. Sarah Palin running as a third-party candidate assures an Obama re-election in 2012.
skatz51 on December 9, 2009 at 8:28 AM
Third Party? Not.
It was not unreasonable for Huck to cut the teen-ager’s 100 year sentence in half…if the guy had shown some rehabilitation. But Huck went on a do-gooder spree. If we want criminal-coddling, we’ll elect Democrats.
And while I’ve got great big problems with Mormon theology, too, politically they’re great conservatives, Republicans, parents, allies and patriots. Lay off, Huck.

Huckabee is a good ole boy who moonlights as a snake oil salesman on the Fox network in prime time on weekends. The liberals’ prayers have been answered.Even the Fox front runner, O’Reilly, even made a complete fool of himself during his interview with the buffoon.
volsense on December 9, 2009 at 8:36 AM
McCain thought he would win because he was the only game in town for the Republicans and that conservatives would be obligated to vote for him simply because he wasn’t Obama. He was wrong.
Huckabee thinks the same thing and he is just as wrong. I am not the only conservative who said “never again” after my vote for McCain left such a bitter taste in my mouth. The drive to vote against Obama is not enough. The candya$$ whiners who bemoan us “dooming America to another four years of Obama” can bite my expansive, pale backside. We must have something to vote for. Huckabee isn’t it. He brings nothing of value and does not inspire. Want me to follow a leader? Give me a leader.

Weekly tracking polls might matter, maybe, after the conventions.
Chris_Balsz on December 9, 2009 at 10:38 AM
Not unqualified, but unelectable. And you think Palin’s got baggage…if Huck’s the nominee, get ready for Willie Horton redux 24/7.
ddrintn on December 8, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Then conversely, you WILL vote for Sarah Palin.
The alternative is MOBAMA!
Brian1972 on December 8, 2009 at 10:55 PM
Can you imagine the dems trying to pretend they are tough on crime with ‘Willie Horton’ ads? It would be comical considering their weak stance on Gitmo detainees and everything else.
Yes If the choice came down to Palin and Obama I WOULD pull the lever for Palin in a heartbeat. The fact is we have only two choices and I vote for the one with the R after his/her name. If you are talking about a primary that means one REPUBLICAN ends up winning. That’s fine with me. If Palin is talking about some ‘Bull Moose party’ that will split the party , Nader-style and we lose. Guess what, YOU are talking out of your butt!

McCain was a tool agreed but even that tool would have been far better than Obama no? The fact is he could have won if he hadn’t taken public financing. Well maybe that was part of it but he came close. After this presidential term is up, no one will be for Obama when we are in the midst of Jimmy Carter-style stagflation.

It appears that you would prefer a statist Republican who will slow-walk us to fascism over a socialist Democrat who is dragging us there in a sprint. I prefer freedom and will not vote for the slow-walking fascist any more than the sprinter.

As a Mormon, I’d like to say thank you.
Conservative Samizdat on December 9, 2009 at 1:52 PM
That’s a fair observation. But do you think it might have something to do with Palin’s celebrity? Her detractors are watching her every move to catch her in a slip-up. They were sure to report something as silly as ‘death panels’. And then her fervent fans on the right are sure to rally to her defense, whether her claims were far-fetched or not. So an argument can be made that her contribution to the debate is less about substance, and more about style. The evidence is right in front of you… I mean, Sarah can sneeze and it’s sure to get featured on HotAir :)
ceruleanblue on December 9, 2009 at 9:27 PM
Yes, but the time to debate those issues are in the primaries. You exercise your freedom by deciding not to vote? There will never be a perfect candidate. It’s up to us to stand up for the better candidate, even if he’s not the very best candidate.
