Quotes of the day

“So what is all this going to cost?
“The short answer is trillions of dollars over the next few decades. It is a significant sum but a relatively small fraction of the world’s total economic output. In energy infrastructure alone, the transformational ambitions that delegates to the United Nations climate change conference are expected to set in the coming days will cost more than $10 trillion in additional investment from 2010 to 2030, according to a new estimate from the International Energy Agency.
“As scary as that number sounds, the agency said that the costs would ramp up relatively slowly and be largely offset by economic benefits in new jobs, improved lives, more secure energy supplies and a reduced danger of climate catastrophe. Most of the investment will come from private rather than public funds, the agency contends.
“‘People often ask about the costs,’ said Kevin Parker, the global head of Deutsche Bank Asset Management, who tracks climate policy for the bank. ‘But the figures people tend to cite don’t take into account conservation and efficiency measures that are easily available. And they don’t look at the cost of inaction, which is the extinction of the human race. Period.’”

“‘We are collectively irrational, in the sense that we should really care about the long-term well-being of the planet but when we get up in the morning it’s very hard to motivate ourselves,’ said Dan Ariely, a professor of behavioral economics at Duke University, who gave a keynote speech last month at a Washington conference devoted to understanding why people don’t do more to save energy.
“Psychologists studying the issue say that the now-familiar warnings about climate change kick at emotional dead spots in all human brains — but especially in American brains. Researchers have only theories to explain why people in the United States have done less than those in such places as Europe and Japan. Some think Americans are culturally leery of programs the government might develop to target climate change, trusting instead that the free market will solve major problems.
“One U.S. researcher thought television is to blame: All those TV ads have made Americans more focused on their own wants, she theorized, and less likely to care about the long-term good.”

“The decade of 2000 to 2009 appears to be the warmest one in the modern record, the World Meteorological Organization reported in a new analysis on Tuesday…
“A negotiator for a large bloc of developing countries meanwhile challenged rich countries to make far deeper cuts in emissions than they have proposed so far. The negotiator, Lumumba Stanislaus Di-Aping of Sudan, said President Obama should be willing to spend far more to limit climate dangers in the world’s most vulnerable regions.
“‘We have to ask him, when he provided trillions of dollars to save Wall Street, are the children of the world not deserving help to save their lives?‘ he said.”

I’ll drink to this! Barkeep!
In RCP averages Obama is at only +2.6 (approve 49.0, disprove 46.4)
I believe this is the worst he has ever done ….. yet.
And this is with an outlier poll having him at +13. If not for that he would be dead even.

They WANT to cause the extinction of the human race. Period.

I know that someone has the answer to this question but how do we know what the temperature of the Earth is supposed to be? Without an owner’s manual it just seems kind of arbitrary. Is the answer that it is just supposed to be cooler than it is. As a matter of fact when do we know that we have done enough?
Mormon Doc on December 9, 2009 at 2:55 AM
Adam and Eve must have used the owners manual to help build a fire, maybe to eat that rascally serpent. No wonder they got kicked out of the Garden of Eden.

When Al Gore has all your money and you have to ask Barack Obama for permission every time you exhale. That’s when.

[ Ohhh, happy day. ]
It appears the only thing worse in this world than a measly $500,000 salary is getting no salary at all. And that’s exactly what is about to happen to AIG General Counsel, Anastasia Kelly, who before joining the bankrupt firm, was a GC at such reputable organizations as MCI/WorldCon (sic) and Fannie Mae.
To paraphrase the objections against a very prominent Treasury Secretary recently, the question is not whether or not she will leave the job, the question is how she got it in the first place.
Kelly, who recently was protesting the $500k salary cap imposed by Pay Despot Ken Feinberg, yet was in Benmosche’s black book, will likely be out of the organization, presumably involuntarily, by year end.
We are confident that with the economy rocking she will be able to find a job that pays her much more in line with her true skills… which based on her track record hopefully involves more than leading three sequential companies straight into bankruptcy.
[errr, MCI/WorldCon "reputable organizations"!?! Someone call da law! ]

New jobs? For all those people in brown jobs who are put out of work? Sooo we’re paying trillions so we can, at best, have the same number of jobs?
Improved lives? How are our lives improved if we’re 10 trillion dollars poorer?
Secure our energy supplies? By making us dependent on unreliable technologies such as wind and solar, while neglecting the potential of nuclear power and clean coal?
Avoiding a climate disaster? That’s easy. Seek therapy and address the chicken little complex. The human race survived earlier warm periods when we were walking around in loin cloths and we will survive an increase of a few degrees in future temperatures.
The real threat to human survival is the kind of hysteria that is perpetuated by bad science.

It’s not, and never was about the science. It’s all about control. The environmental movement is essentially the communist/socialist/leftist movement with a new color – green (instead of red). It’s about destroying western values and ideals, individualism, freedom, liberty and getting even with the white man. Like every other “social justice” movement, the commies attract idealists, ideologues, the too-young-to-know-better and other useful idiots to help do their bidding.
Same old, same old.

People who advocate robbing Peter to pay Paul can usually count on the enthusiastic support of Paul.

This is contradicted by all the evidence, even their own evidence, which shows pronounced cooling over the last ten years. If they will flat out lie about something as obvious about this, why should they be trusted on the rest of it?

As they can manipulate the data and have the bull pulpit whenever they want it we are seeing an all out full court press against the offensive that was given life by climategate. Look at how the news stations and papers act. It is in unison.

This asked by a man representing a nation where slavery is legal, where honor killings are a common everyday occurrence. My response to him is Sir, we are looking out for our children, you look out for your own children and their will not be a problem.

The situation is, the sheeple have been programmed to believe this nonsense for so long, their minds are mush. And…the Zombot media won’t divulge anything close to the truth, so we have what we have. Fortunately Truth does prevail, albeit at a very slow pace. Unfortunately the money may be “confiscated from us” anyway.
Nalea on December 9, 2009 at 7:14 AM
What?? I heard just the other day that there had been no warming since 1998. Maybe Americans respond the way they do because they have so much crap from so many people for so long that they just do not believe half of it anymore.
Terrye on December 9, 2009 at 7:20 AM
Same demagogic tactics used by the left to win elections are used to further their ideological positions worldwide. These people must not be beaten, they must be destroyed, their ideas destroyed, their positions assaulted, ridiculed and beaten down utterly in the arena of ideas.
ted c on December 9, 2009 at 7:27 AM
No, Americans view the media and their experts as the boys who cried wolf. They told us an ice age was coming. Didn’t happen. They told us overpopulation was coming. Didn’t happen. They told us AIDS would kill tens of millions. Didn’t happen. They told us 2000 would lead to disaster. Didn’t happen. They told us swine flu would kill many. Didn’t happen. They told us it was global warming and now it’s “climate change.” Because of these chicken littles, the American people now have a good sense of when the media and their elites are trying to con us out of our freedom and money by using fear.

Save the planet by paying Arabs to not give us oil.
Sounds insane enough for Congress to pass.
Hening on December 9, 2009 at 7:47 AM
First of all, this is cr*p, we have done more then anyone else…but let’s assume this is correct.
You don’t need a “researcher” to know why we don’t trust our government to do “more”.
We now have had 11 months of constant lies…and we have been led by a congress with barely double digit approval.
We have had a record number of secret meetings, and a president that has spent more time battling a talk show host then running a war…then he decided to do battle with a cable news station………gee, I wonder why we don’t trust our government….let’s hire a government researcher to find out….

Al Gore (Global Saviour and Time Traveler) …
last e-mail:
Don’t misunderstand Al’s point .. you see Al Gore lives in the future .. sometime around 2019.
Hey, with Al Gore living 10 years into the future, even if Global Warming is ever proven true, we have another 10 years before the window closes.

A quote from the conclusion of the article to which you refer:
Now, I want to be clear here. The blatantly bogus GHCN adjustment for this one station does NOT mean that the earth is not warming.
So, what’s your point?
oakland on December 9, 2009 at 8:27 AM
Insinuating the AGW types are nutcases, and out and out calling them frauds, wasn’t pointed enough for you?
Maybe I should point out the European and Japanese propensity to follow extremist ideas, over history. Obviously this “behavioral econom(ist)” is having issues, grabbing onto the concept.
Maybe point out that Journalism and Poly Sci students, are among the dumbest students on campus, as measured by SATS. Coincidently enough, they are the very types most on board the AGW bandwagon. They are also the least equipped to get the significance of the fraud that Willis Eschenbach uncovered.
They are also the dumb@#$%s most likely show themselves with zero knowledge of science, declaring “the science is settled.”
No better phrase invented, to instantly point to someone as a fraud.
MNHawk on December 9, 2009 at 8:45 AM
And as is typical of the moronic Journalism School/Poly Sci type tard, the “conslusion” was purposefully truncated. Apparently these types are only used to dealing with fellow tards, and never with others that can read for themselves.
And with the Latin saying “Falsus in unum, falsus in omis” (false in one, false in all) as our guide, until all of the station “adjustments” are examined, adjustments of CRU, GHCN, and GISS alike, we can’t trust anyone using homogenized numbers.Have I made my point, yet, Oakland? Want me to expound on how much I trust you?

Yes, please expound on how much you trust me.
And, please explain what your point is, in light of the statement in the conclusion of the article to which you refer.

“The warmest decade evah” will likely go down with “Dewey Wins” headline. As the other HA blogpost showing how the Australian raw data was somehow upwardly adjusted (funny how all these ‘adjustments’ head in only one upward direction-but I digress) about three degrees, I find that the raw data tells the real story and the ‘adjustments’ are BWCW (boys who cried wolf) bs.
eaglewingz08 on December 9, 2009 at 11:23 AM
American brains…LOL!
I don’t give a crap what happens to dead beat Americans and their children, so why should I give a crap about dead beat Europeans? I only help those that want to help themselves. Environmentalists aren’t helpers…they’re takers.
