White House: Obama to accept Nobel as a “war president”
posted at 8:51 pm on December 7, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m intrigued. Tom Friedman wrote a column back in October calling on him to accept the award in the name of the U.S. military — a “peacekeeper’s prize,” as Friedman put it — and while I doubt The One will go quite that far, it sounds like he’s planning something like that. Having Captain Hopenchange take the stage at Oslo and shock the congregation of doves with a tribute to peace through strength would be the most surreal moment of his presidency thus far. And probably the finest.
There’ll be no effort by Barack Obama to disguise or obscure the fact that he’s a war president when he accepts the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on Thursday…
The judges said they selected Mr. Obama to honor “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
But asked specifically if Mr. Obama will be accepting the Nobel Peace Prize as a war president, spokesman Gibbs was unambiguous. “Exactly,” he stated bluntly. And he will mention Afghanistan in his acceptance speech…
“If I did not think that the security of the United States and the safety of the American people were at stake in Afghanistan,” said Mr. Obama [in his speech at West Point]. “I would gladly order every single one of our troops home tomorrow.”
He can be expected to argue that the U.S. is escalating in Afghanistan in the cause of peace.
The media’s already starting to grumble that his generals are leading him around by the nose, and Petraeus told Fox News just yesterday that The One finally admitted during their deliberations that the surge in Iraq was a success (not surprising, given that they’re emulating it now for Afghanistan). Imagine the reaction on the left if he goes hawkish during his Nobel speech, of all things. Good lord.
Speaking of Afghanistan, take five minutes and watch the video of Fox News’s scoop tonight about an exit-strategy memo circulating at the Pentagon and within NATO. Most of it is unsurprising — the handover to Afghans will be piecemeal, district by district — but the the timeline is big news: If this plan is adopted, the July 2011 withdrawal will be every bit the token gesture we suspect it is. Then, when you’re done with the clip, read this gripping analysis at CBS of McChrystal’s skills as a general, especially the details on his adaptability as head of America’s hunter-killer teams in Iraq. Quote: “If anyone can pull it off, it’s Stan.” Click the image to watch.

I remember trying to explain to people that Obama isn’t the anti-Bush; Obama is Clinton. Clinton had no problem deploying troops all over the world, and the left supported him the whole time, including sending troops without Congressional authorization (something Bush didn’t do.)

What is General Petraeus going to do now that he has only a few weeks left in the military . This could be entertaining . People were obviously sharply divided over Oliver North , I don’t know if the General is crazy enough to want elected office , he is used to a meritocracy , not whatever it is we have in government .

Intriguing indeed. I give the man credit on his Afghanistan decision. It was frustrating waiting for his decision but I think he gets kudos for thinking it all the way through and coming up with a decent plan. Yea, he tried to appeal to all sides but in the end, I think this is a doable strategy. What do I know about war though.

There is a democrat in the White House so “War IS the Answer”.
I wonder what the liberals are going to do with all those “Save Darfur” bumper stickers and no thrill going up their legs now that George Clooney won’t be doing anymore useless speeches at the UN making Obama look bad because he is doing NOTHING FOR DARFUR.
I know they were looking forward to the same fantastic success they had in Rwanda the last time liberals relied on the UN and negotiations.

1. The EPA just declared CO2 a pollutant subject to Federal Regulation.
2. A rumor is circulating in Washington D.C. the ‘the Generals’ are ‘running’ the President.
3. The Obama is going to accept the Nobel peace prize as a ‘war president’
4. I just finished watching ‘The Departed’ on FX.
Sorry, but I’m a little confused at the moment.

re: drilling in Alaska
They have to. The amount of oil going through the pipeline is just barely enough to keep the oil flowing. Because of the cold temps the pipeline is heated. But you need a minimum amount of oil moving through the pipeline in order for the heating to work. Once the amount of oil drops below a certain point it becomes impossible to keep the oil flowing at all.
And we’re really close to that number now.
So no props to Obama for this.
memomachine on December 8, 2009 at 12:31 AM
I wonder if there is not another picture that you could use when these topics with Obama and General McChrystal come up. Call me paranoid of the Administration or MSM, but there is a lot of propaganda in this very contrived photo. (I’ve studied this stuff)
1. Obama is photographed in the fore-ground to make him look large and imposing over the General who looks cartoonishly small in the background.
2. Obama is making a hand gesture which makes it look like he’s reaching and able to grasp the General as if he has that power over him. (I suppose I should be relieved he isn’t giving him the finger)
3. Obama looks serious and the general looks like he’s either confused or intimidated by Obama.
4. Overall, the photo I guess is meant to convey that Obama has control of the military and the war?
Again, I suppose it could be a coincidence, but I don’t believe a camera is allowed to be anywhere nears him anymore until the stage is set to record something appearing very historic or at least to paint The Won in the best possible light. Anyway, I freaking hate that photo. If it is contrived, his supporters would have had to brief him on where to stand and the gestures to make.
Worst CinC I’ve served under. Worse than Carter.

I suspect that all Presidents do this, to a degree. But I understand where you are coming from.
The photo that caught me most off guard, was the one where Obama towers over the “Great Wall” without an ounce of visible, Presidential apparel. We get it, Mr. President: You’re huge and it’s cold. But you can’t wear a tie underneath and muster the standard The Old Glory pin on the lapel of your jacket?
The biggest offense (imo) is that his name is still an active web domain, containing his “O” logo, (a recreation of the flag, with zero stars), that engages in activities to include children pitching health care via their inevitably broken-leg caused homelessness.
Meanwhile, a quick entry of georgebush.com… simply redirects to the GOP website.
Do I feel a little Beck-ish in sharing your paranoia? No.
Only a fool believes that ignorance is bliss.

Respect, is one thing; political correctness another entirely.
This is true, but as long as Crock O’Bama is there we get another chance to see Michael Moore’s head explode.
