Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on December 7, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

When politicians give major speeches, they will usually release the transcript ahead of time to the media to allow reporters to prepare their stories. One thing they will watch is whether the speaker changes or omits any part of the speech. Barack Obama managed to leave out a small piece of the ending, and one that HA reader Phil B caught by following along with Andrew Malcolm’s pre-speech transcript provided by the White House:

Thank you, God Bless you, God Bless our troops, and may God Bless the United States of America.

Leaving out the blessing for the troops certainly wasn’t intentional, but considering the subject matter of the speech, it’s an awkward omission. Maybe TOTUS has it in for Obama …

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Illustrations by Chris Muir of Day by Day. Be sure to read the adventures of Sam, Zed, Damon, and Jan every day!

as big a liar as Obama is, he doesn’t lie about his distaste for our soldiers. He didn’t bless them on purpose.

don’t soldiers vote & have families that vote?

myrenovations on December 7, 2009 at 8:15 AM

I think he left it out on purpose. The Obamateurism was writing a speech to the troops and speaking to them in 3rd person. Someone probably fixed it.

Ronnie on December 7, 2009 at 8:15 AM

Amazing how people keep making excuses for him or giving him the benefit of the doubt when he has demonstrated over and over again he does not wish our troops or our country well. Not intentional? Everything he does is intentional.

texanpride on December 7, 2009 at 8:18 AM

maybe Bush took the wrong tone. He would go on & on about God’s blessings. He got tears in his eyes while thanking our military.

how plebian & gauche.

Ogabe wanted to say, “Thank you, me bless you and and may me bless the United States of America.”

Has he ever said God Bless the troops.
Maybe he should quit using them as photo ops. That would make things easier on Zero. Wonder if he’ll pop in and see any of them after get his Nobel for thought award?

Why do you say it was not intentional, isn’t he reading that right from TOTUS?

The filthy lying coward’s one real friend in DC? Say it isn’t so!

In reality the rat bastard traitor does not care about the troops so the omission is just as well. He doesn’t care about America either so he was enough of a hypocrite wishing it be blessed by the God he neither believes in or worships.

I, for one, am sick and tired of so-called Republicans and conservatives making excuses for the filthy lying coward “in fairness” to the bastard. We all need to channel the spirit of Lee Atwater and cut the rat bastard traitor off at the knees. I don’t want to be fair to Obama or any Democrat/radical liberal. I want to do my part to cause him to fail and make his pathetic life as miserable as possible.

highhopes on December 7, 2009 at 8:26 AM

donh525 on December 7, 2009 at 8:33 AM

Obama chose his audience and the setting of West Point to deliver his address. Nomen est omen.

Freudian, dismissing our troops existence that way. Beware Obama’s lack of regard that he condemns as ANTIPATHY, clinging to his disrespect for our military.

His troops are surrounding him, right in front of his face. Evidently, Obama can’t see past his own nose. Likewise, his PC strategy dooms America.

csdeven on December 7, 2009 at 8:37 AM

From his point of view,
When he says “God Bless Our Troops”,
He has lied three times.

“God” is a problem.
He’s not so sure He exists,
So that’s tickelish.

And then there is “Bless”…
God might not be on our side,
If he does exist.

Which brings us to “Our”.
A question of allegience…
Is he on their side?

December 7, 1941 Japan attacks Pearl Harbor.

God Blessed Our Troops. Thank God. Thank Americans for uniting to conquer the aggressors.

September 11, 2001 Radical Muslims attack the Pentagon, the World Trade Center Twin Towers, and hijack an airliner that the courageous Americans force down before it can likewise attack Washington D.C. targeting the Capitol or the White House.

God Bless Our Troops with all that they need, including reliable leadership. Pray to God that Americans unite to conquer the radical Muslim aggressors. It is our job at home to defeat through popular opinion the unconstitutional PC legislation and demand that our Potus rescind any obligation in Afghanistan/Pakistan to the Karzai 12 Rules of Engagement.

Remember Pearl Harbor. Remember how victory was won as we adhered to the Geneva Convention through combat, not by the Karzai 12.

Remember Our Troops. Give them a fighting chance to come home alive. With the deployment of US Troops, rescind the Karzai 12. Want to look tough on Karzai’s corruption? Rescind the Karzai 12 Rules of Engagement. Obama’s antipathy doesn’t care about our troops, but plans to use their dead to gain his own agenda’s objective. How convenient to offer the lives of OTHERS as his own “sacrifice” for freedom’s sake, embedding the Karzai 12 further into the American system of “precedence”. There is no reason for Karzai to dictate military protocol to anyone outside of his own army, his army for which he fails to account, anyway.

Conservatives would be wise to analyze Obama’s agenda, and beware supporting the very measures being taken to further subjugate Americans into the Marxist Global Governance that he represents which has no place for our vibrantly American Constitutional Republic. America has managed well through our eras by adhering closely to our Constitution as the supreme law of the land. And the world has benefited as a result of OUR CONSTITUTION being upheld. We all suffer when global authoritarians coerce obligations from us that they themselves do not honor but use against us for their own empowerment.

Screw him and screw this PC notion of ‘fairness’ that has pervaded Conservatives’ logic like a cancer.

Monica on December 7, 2009 at 11:11 AM

I’m not surprised, nor will I say its unintentional. Obama is an outed PAGAN, so his problem with calling on “God” for anything other than cover & a photo-op shouldn’t be so shocking. Obama is a so-called ‘black liberation theologian’, not a Christian, or even a catholic. If he’s such a follower, let’s hear him call on the name of Jesus Christ in public, and not just as a conversation piece on the election trail. He believes in a false god that orders him to hate whites, or treat those he tolerates like dhimmis. His hatred of military personnel comes from his poor upbringing, hanging around drug addicts (and being one, himself) and his choice to live among the dregs of society to become like them (as his own books show). Jerry Wright was never a Marine. He wore the uniform, but that’s all. His hatred and envy of his betters colored his satanic sermons, and further indoctrinated Obama into his culture of hatred and jealousy of the forces.

Obama doesn’t want his “god” (Satan) to ‘bless’ the troops, and as a Veteran and American, I reject his “god’s” blessing. Obama wants death and destruction for the troops, so he can muzzle them, once and for all for his like-minded fringe. The only enemies he wants to see crushed are the Republicans, Conservatives and tea partiers. Islamic terrorists still have their uses, for him. Remember: ‘never waste a crisis’.

Virus-X on December 7, 2009 at 12:00 PM

I don’t know if he omitted the blessing intentionally or not. I do know that President Bush did not need such a blessing written down to remember it. George Bush would have said it whether it was written or not. Zero-bama needs it written down, and he still forgets to say it. That speaks to their attitudes towards our military.

Mallard T. Drake on December 7, 2009 at 1:25 PM

Nothing that the 0bamanation does shocks me anymore, and I do believe he is deliberate in everything that he does. For example, does anyone really believe that 0bama’s DHS targeting Christians and ex-military personnel as TERRORISTS was a mistake?

DannoJyd on December 7, 2009 at 5:06 PM

His first and only religion was Islam. He has never renounced Islam; always supports it. As he said, the most beautiful sound he knows is the call to evening prayer.

He believes in God as revealed to him by his messenger. He believes his God can bless the country now that he has WON. He beieves that his GOd can bless the people that he claims to lead; but how can he ask that same God he believes in to bless the troops that are fighting Muslims? He can’t. If it was in the speech it was on the prompter, unless he had it removed, or he ignored it.
