Gallup: Obama’s approval rating now at … 47/46
posted at 4:07 pm on December 7, 2009 by Allahpundit
They’ve had him below 50 before but the spread has never been this narrow.
Barack Obama’s presidential job approval rating is 47% in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update, a new low for his administration to date. His approval rating has been below 50% for much of the time since mid-November, but briefly rose to 52% last week after he announced his new Afghanistan policy.
Afghanistan is just one of many high-profile issues with which the president is dealing. Immediate public reaction to his new Afghanistan policy showed 51% in favor and 40% opposed, according to a Dec. 2 USA Today/Gallup poll…
In the new Dec. 4-6 Gallup Daily results, Obama’s approval rating is 14% among Republicans, 42% among independents, and 83% among Democrats. Compared to his ratings in early November, when he averaged 53% job approval overall, his ratings are down three points among Democrats, seven points among independents, and four points among Republicans.
Feast your eyes on the converging lines. Coupled with the 49/50 he’s pulling in today’s Rasmussen snapshot and the surprise 48/50 in last week’s CNN survey, he’s now underwater in the poll of polls for the first time too: 48.4 percent disapproval versus 47.8 percent approval. Not the place you want to be with crunch time on ObamaCare coming to the Senate. In fact, after skimming Gallup’s weekly demographic breakdown, I see there’s only one group who’s soured on him by as many as nine points since last month. Attention, Blue Dogs:

The problem with analyzing polls about The One, of course, is that he has so much on his plate that it’s hard to tell what people are reacting to. Are conservative Dems peeling away because we’re getting closer to passing O-Care? Because they’re unhappy with his timeline on Afghanistan? Because, as working-class types, they’re fed up with double-digit unemployment? What’s it all about, Alfie?
I’ll tell you what it’s about. Racism.

He doesn’t care. He’s on a mission to “take down” the America he hates and some silly approval poll is not going to get in his way.
johnsteele on December 7, 2009 at 4:10 PM
He could hit low 40′s before the end of the year if they ram Obamacare through. I didn’t think he’d drop this low this quickly. Then again, I didn’t think he’d be THIS big of a disaster.

I think this is right. But I also think we’re at the place where approval ratings are about like Palin stories in Alaska…a bit iffy.
He’ll be judged, soon enough, by the results of his “push” decisions.
And there will be lots of debate. Bush was creamed over his surge tactic. Boy, that isn’t the case now.
Every president pushes unpopular agenda items. History proves it right or wrong.
Every president gets to choose their battles. Some flop, big time. Some which are predicted to flop, turn out to be smart.
I personally think that voters have to continue to push themselves. Vote the best we can, based on what we understand.
Don’t vote on stereotypes or prejudices, when we know better. That’s not always easy to sort out.
Keep an open mind when we know, “I don’t know real flip out that flap situation.” That’s the thing that I think we could learn. Democracy doesn’t award us with brilliance in every situation, for heaven’s sakes.
Quit pretending we know everything!

It’s about all of the above. Frankly, the man hasn’t done an outstanding job of handling anything he’s touched so far. He’s done a mediocre job on some issues, and has been a piss poor performer on others. So I’m surprised the numbers aren’t hovering around the low 40s. Thankfully, he never reads the polls so this won’t worry him.

Obama SO annoys me, and then he makes some decision that I pretty much support, like Afghanastan.
I get SO annoyed by HCR, and then he also avoids public option.
I don’t think he’s doing a horrible job of balancing, frankly.
I do not like him. Never will.
But I don’t think he’s evil or doing a horrible job.

Can we impeach him yet? I can’t believe he has this much popularity. Being down in the low 30′s would be where he should be. This guy is still totally popular as far as I am concerned. Not enough eyes see what a huge Marxist he is.
But then I was wrong when I thought he could never get elected.
BetseyRoss on December 7, 2009 at 4:19 PM
then why do you even come on here?????
Ghoul aid on December 7, 2009 at 4:19 PM
He’s already being judged. Porkulus is a flop. His foreign policy is a mess. Obamacare is unpopular to say the least. His deficits(yes, HIS deficits, not Bush’s) are making people uneasy.
Anyone who’s paying attention and isn’t a complete hack knows why his numbers are tanking. Obviously the crappy economy and a 10% unemployment rate are both weighing heavily on him, but with almost a year in office, Americans are now linking Obama’s policies directly to our current state.
Doughboy on December 7, 2009 at 4:19 PM

I should answer myself here.
My chief and ongoing criticism?
I don’t think he’s really doing a good job.
And we need someone who can.
I suppose that’s probably way beyond a reasonable wish list.
He’s mediocre. And we’re not in a period of time that can handle that quality.
But, we’re stuck. He is president Obama.
End of story. Either jump on the same bandwagon as the anti-bushies, and I will not, or get reasonable.
I didn’t bash Bush. I’m not going to bash Obama.
And party people who bash either?

I still cannot believe that his approval ratings are as high as they are. There sure a lot of brainwahsed / misinformed people out there.
We all need to do more of what I do – I laugh in people’s faces when they tell me that Obama is doing a good job. Then I start quizzing them on why they think that.
The severity of my treatment depends on how much I like them personally, or if I need to “be nice” for some reason (inlaws, co-workers who might whine too much and try to get me fired, etc).

Don’t worry – they’ll go a LOT lower.
You know … the thing is … when he was elected I knew he was inexperienced. But … I kind of figured that he had enough “umph” in him to take off and land the plane – he just wouldn’t be able to do many aerobatics with it.
Boy … I was wrong.
Not only is he incapable of taking off and landing – this guy isn’t even smart enough to start the engines and taxi to the runway. I mean – it really is embarrassing. I know foriegn leaders are looking at us and going … “WTF? Americans elected this guy??”
Well if anything is going to shatter the whole “American Exceptionalism” mystique abroad – it’s the fact that we’ve elected a complete incompetent to our highest government office. You would have thought that perhaps he would have gotten at least a little bit lucky – and picked a few good advisors who could have run things responsibly for him. Nope … all his advisors are more incompetent than he is.
This is seriously embarrassing. This guy is like the first contestant thrown out of the “American Idol” try-outs … you know – that guy that takes a song and sings it in five different keys while Simon is holding his ears?

The President-For-Life doesn’t need to worry about polls….
If you think this is a tinfoil-hat thing to say, ask yourself if, two years ago, you would have believed the Congress and a totalitarian President would spend us to the verge of bankruptcy, take over private corporations and kowtow to terrorists.
Their goals are clear. And they don’t include the Constitution.
MrScribbler on December 7, 2009 at 4:27 PM
No, Bush was mediocre. Obama is the damn Hindenburg. There is nothing he’s done even remotely well in his first year. Even Afghanistan he managed to screw up with his 3 1/2 month dithering and arbitrary withdrawal date.
Could he still turn out to be a good or at least mediocre President? Sure. He’s got 3 years left in his term. But that’s like hoping a #1 draft pick bust could still turn into a superstar. The chances are one in a thousand.

Let’s not get too excited. Remember, people were stupid enough to vote for him in the first place, and they didn’t suddenly take a smart pill. First of all, even the bloggers at this very site refuse to acknowledge the evil intentions behind all of what we see happening in Washington right now.
I could go on a long rant with a ton of tangents, but I just want to get this one prediction out there right now. Obama’s numbers will start to improve this spring when 1.5 million TEMPORARY WORKERS are hired for the 2010 census, and unemployment numbers take a misleading dip.

Cautionary note: Reagan’s approval rating in December of his first year in office was 47% according to the Politics page on Gallup.com. He was facing the same sucking eggs economy, high unemployment, and inflation. Yes, the Dems took a lot of seats in 1982; but, Reagan became beloved when the economy recovered.
Now, I don’t believe the economy is going to recover any time soon and I think that is the way Barack and his puppet masters want it; however, most Democrats still love him and a few more give aways to Republicans like the Afghanistan decision and some will be willing to look the other way and support him again.
