Quotes of the day

posted at 10:25 pm on December 4, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Palin began her political career as a reformer breaking up Alaska’s corrupt boys club and shifted seamlessly into last fall’s campaign trail culture warrior. But her decision to carry to term her Down syndrome child established a special relationship with anti-abortion activists, and now Palin has transformed herself from a politician who was anti-abortion into the leading figure of the anti-abortion movement

“‘You just can’t escape it — she really is cut from a completely different cloth than most men, but also women, in politics,’ said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, which supports anti-abortion candidates. ‘She had the audacity in the eyes of the abortion rights world to actually have this child and then has the audacity to bring him along with her and feature him as a centrally valued person in their family.’”

milwife88 on December 4, 2009 at 10:34 PM

What an extremely nice video. I hadn’t heard her talk about that before in that context, but the issue of humility as part of divinity, or requesting divine aid, was well struck. Especially with our current “I won” political philosophy in work.

As far as her pro-life cache, abortion was a *fringe* issue for me years ago, but it’s definitely moved up my board. Her speech on Trig and the temptation/choice was some of the moving comments from a politician I have ever heard.

God Bless the Palin’s for reminding US.

This woman has something 99% of the politicians in this country lack: courage. She is not afraid to say what she means. When I listened to that clip I heard sincerity and honesty and humility. Policy wonks and glad handers are a dime a dozen. Real leaders are rare and should be treasured. Sarah Palin is real.

He’s getting a little greedy, no? You’d think 2200 posts in under 24 hours in the Palin/birtherism thread would have been enough. ;o)

As for Gov. Palin: Love her. Whether you share her pro-life views or not, you have to respect that she lives her values and when it came time to walk the walk, that’s exactly what she did. Faced with taking what may have seemed an easier path, she chose adversity and reaps the rewards for her choice (and I don’t mean in the political arena). She is truly a born leader.

FORT HOOD — Rebecca Dalberg’s excitement over Sarah Palin’s book signing Friday night was so intense, she wanted to spend the night in a parking lot to assure a front-row seat.

Her retired military husband, Sonny Dalberg, quashed that idea because the Copperas Cove couple live less than five minutes away from the sprawling Army post where the former Alaska governor signed about 1,000 copies of her new book, “Going Rogue.”

The Dalbergs, who arrived 11 hours before the event, were among the first people who navigated a maze of meandering lines at the post exchange before reaching last year’s GOP vice presidential candidate.

The crowd greeted her entry with a boisterous “Sar-ah, Sar-ah” chant.

“She’s human. She listens to people. She doesn’t think that she’s better than anyone,” Rebecca Dalberg said. “She’s all-American. That’s mom, apple pie and John Wayne.”http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/78569932.html

Palin has said royalties on books sold during her stop at Fort Hood will benefit the victims of last month’s mass shooting and their families. Army psychologist Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is accused of killing 13 and wounding 38 soldiers and civilians.

Victims’ family members are ecstatic about Palin’s help, said Ron Taylor, president of the Central Texas chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army.

He estimated the book signings would add more than $10,000 to the fund, which will help pay for travel expenses, lodging and missed work for family members who had to rush to Fort Hood to be with their loved ones, Taylor said. The fund, which has fetched $250,000, will help more than 100 family members, Taylor said.

1st Lt. Jonathan Brown of Florida’s Tampa Bay area walked away smiling as he clutched his autographed copy of Palin’s book.

“It was my first time that I met somebody big,” said Brown, a Palin supporter. “She supports the military. She supports the American troops, and I’m a big fan of that.”

Theresa Cockran of nearby Nolanville came away convinced that she had just met the next president of the United States.

“She’s like me. She’s got a heart and a soul,” said Cockran, wife of a military retiree. “I am so happy I almost wet my pants.”
