Obama refused to be photographed with F-22

posted at 2:55 pm on December 3, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

How petty can the White House get in setting up Barack Obama’s photo ops?  According to Foreign Policy, petty enough to refuse to be photographed with America’s most advanced fighter.   The Obama administration successfully killed further production of the F-22, and when visiting Elmendorf AFB in Alaska — where F-22s are the pride of the base — the White House insisted that the Air Force move an F-22 out of the hangar in which Obama gave a speech:

When President Obama spoke to troops at Alaska’s Elmendorf Air Force Base last month, the unit there parked a shiny new F-22 fighter plane in the hanger[sic]. But according to multiple sources, White House aides demanded the plane be changed to an older F-15 fighter because they didn’t want Obama speaking in front of the F-22, a controversial program he fought hard to end.

“White House aides actually made them remove the F-22-said they would not allow POTUS to be pictured with the F-22 in any way, shape, or form,” one source close to the unit relayed.

Stephen Lee, a public affairs officer at Elmendorf, confirmed to The Cable that the F-22 was parked in the hanger[sic] and then was replaced by an F-15 at the White House’s behest.

The airmen there took offense to the Obama aides’ demand, sources told The Cable, seeing it as a slight to the folks who are operating the F-22 proudly every day. They also expressed bewilderment that the White House staff would even care so much as to make an issue out of the fact that the F-22 was placed in the hanger [sic] with the president.

This is unbelievably petty and unnecessarily political.  After all, one can agree or disagree on the strategic decision to stop building more F-22s without turning the system into some sort of bête noir.  The US has 187 F-22s defending the nation, and thousands of men and women flying and maintaining them.  The crews that operate the F-22 take justifiable pride in their performance, and it would make sense for them to display their latest and best fighter platform as representative of their efforts.

Instead of acknowledging Elmendorf’s pride, the White House instead turned it into a political football.  Will Obama now only be pictured next to military equipment of which he personally approves?  No one would have assumed that before this incident because the choice of equipment for such appearances would have seemed too inconsequential for anyone to notice.

How many F-22′s would a trillion dollars have bought?

I’m starting to look at Obama’s years in office really as Carter’s years 5 through 8. In my thinking, this year has really been Carter’s 5th year in office. It just makes it all make more sense to me.

And this is what should have happened immediately after this.

“I’m sorry, Mr. President; the F22 squadron who was to fly cover for Air Force One all called in sick today. Without such air cover of our finest, flying would be a risk. You’ll have to take the bus to leave Alaska.”

Speaking of the Arctic Fox:

Mr. President: Boycott Copenhagen; Investigate Your Climate Change “Experts”

The president’s decision to attend the international climate conference in Copenhagen needs to be reconsidered in light of the unfolding Climategate scandal. The leaked e-mails involved in Climategate expose the unscientific behavior of leading climate scientists who deliberately destroyed records to block information requests, manipulated data to “hide the decline” in global temperatures, and conspired to silence the critics of man-made global warming. I support Senator James Inhofe’s call for a full investigation into this scandal. Because it involves many of the same personalities and entities behind the Copenhagen conference, Climategate calls into question many of the proposals being pushed there, including anything that would lead to a cap and tax plan.

Policy should be based on sound science, not snake oil. I took a stand against such snake oil science when I sued the federal government over its decision to list the polar bear as an endangered species despite the fact that the polar bear population has increased. I’ve never denied the reality of climate change; in fact, I was the first governor to create a subcabinet position to deal specifically with the issue.

I saw the impact of changing weather patterns firsthand while serving as governor of our only Arctic state. But while we recognize the effects of changing water levels, erosion patterns, and glacial ice melt, we cannot primarily blame man’s activities for the earth’s cyclical weather changes. The drastic economic measures being pushed by dogmatic environmentalists won’t change the weather, but will dramatically change our economy for the worse.

Policy decisions require real science and real solutions, not junk science and doomsday scare tactics pushed by an environmental priesthood that capitalizes on the public’s worry and makes them feel that owning an SUV is a “sin” against the planet. In his inaugural address, President Obama declared his intention to “restore science to its rightful place.” Boycotting Copenhagen while this scandal is thoroughly investigated would send a strong message that the United States government will not be a party to fraudulent scientific practices. Saying no to Copenhagen and cap and tax are first steps in “restoring science to its rightful place.”

I don’t see how anyone with their eyes open couldn’t detest Clinton at least as much as 0bamessiah.

Have you forgotten just what a wretched scum Clinton was on a personal level? Billy “I loathe the military” Clinton may not have as obviously as damaging to the structure of this country as 0bamessiah has been so far, but he was a blatant traitor in his dealings with the Chinese, was willing to let Monica be viciously slandered by his minions until the presidue on her dress was found to exist, deferred to his lawyer when asked by Sam Donaldson about his alleged rape of Juanita Broadderick instead of outright denying the allegation himself…you know I could go on ad nauseum, don’t you?

I gotta admit it really irks me when people overlook those kind of memories when reminiscing about the good ol’ Billy Boy.

I noticed your “levity” in the previous post as a response to me bringing up some great memories of what a lovable guy Billy Boy was, which is what prompted me saying that he snookered you with his ‘charm’, too.

Your frivious reply was inappropriate to me, just as anyone who says they don’t find Clinton at least as hatable as 0bamessiah is disturbing to me.

Under the draft-dodging, “I loathe the military” Clinton we had, for example: Waco; Bosnia; Mogadishu; Monicagate; Travelgate; Fostergate; his dealings with the Chinese.

If people can say they merely dislike but not quite detest him in light of those scandalous facts swirling about him, I think there is something not altogether about them, and I’d like to know what it would take for them to actually despise him.

Add this, to this…and the picture builds itself

It’s been brought to my attention by several reliable sources that the Defense Department has brought Louay Safi to Fort Hood as an instructor, and that he has been lecturing on Islam to our troops in Fort Hood who are about to deploy to Afghanistan. Safi is a top official of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and served as research director at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT).

Worse, last evening, Safi was apparently permitted to present a check (evidently on behalf of ISNA) to the families of the victims of last month’s Fort Hood massacre. A military source told the blogger Barbarossa at the Jawa Report: “This is nothing short of blood money. This is criminal and the Ft. Hood base commander should be fired right now.”

Send the White House trip-planning staff a picture of an F-22 labeled as the “Venerable and Harmless F-15″, and a picture of an F-15 labeled as the “Ass-kicking F-22, that they won’t even see coming ’til they get its missile up their ass”. I mean, who in the Obama administration could possibly tell the difference? Nobody there was into aircraft recognition as a kid, you can bet on that!

Then Obama shows up and makes a speech in front of the amazing F-22 that he just shit-canned.

I realize his ears give you the impression he could do a “flying nun” takeoff at any minute, but it’s an F-22….no way anyone is looking at him. scotash on December 3, 2009 at 10:32 PM

Are you kidding me?

Sarah has damned near TWO DECADES OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE.

You think running a city, any size is easy?

Yeah, Wasilla is small, but unlike many cities, the mayor is also the city manager, or CEO. EVERYTHING lands on your desk. Tough job. AND, every SOB in town has your home phone number, and knows where you live. (and has has no problem calling or dropping by at all hours, night/day…24/7)

Sarah was also the president of the Alaska Council of Mayors

Then she was the Chief oil and gas regulator in the state, a very powerful job in Alaska.

Of course, she was Governor, CEO of our largest state.

In fact, when you look at sizes of the budgets managed, number of state employees, and the fact that Alaska does BILLIONS in trade with dozens of nations, (and Sarah has had contact and relationships with representatives of all of them), plus her experience as IOGCC Chair and extensive environmental experience, you realize something else:

Sarah Palin has a lot more experience than Bill Clinton did when he became President.

Her budget was about 4 times that of Arkansas, she had 3 times the employees. Clinton had zero foreign policy experience. Dick Morris had to set up school for him on it all.

PLUS, Sarah Palin was Commander-In-Chief of a standing force that not only mans our missile defenses, but routinely shows wayward Russian aircraft back into Russian airspace!

The Alaska Air Guard was decorated for escorting a number of Russian Bear bombers out of Alaskan air space on Sarah’s watch.

Sarah had a national security clearance level much higher than Bill Clinton had as Governor of Arkansas.

And remember, with all of the slugs Obama hangs with, he would have never had ANY clearances, as a Senator, EVER.

Of course, don’t just take my word for it. Her National Guard commander called her the finest C-I-C he ever served under.

Even better, here’s what Brigadier General (R) Anthony J. Tata, has to say about her:

http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/ajtata/2009/12/03/review-going-rogue-reveals-palins-ready-to-lead/

Mark Twain’s famous quote, “Never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel,” resonates loudly in my mind as I finish Sarah Palin’s captivating story, Going Rogue.

But Palin ain’t buying it by the barrel, she’s got a whole pipeline of pure grade indigo flowing from the North Slope as she pumps up the volume on her NY Times #1 bestselling memoir.

When I got about halfway through the book I set it down, stepped outside of my Washington, DC townhouse and went for a run around the U.S. Capitol. Listening to the Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band, and Lil Bow Wow (my daughter slipped that one in there) on my iPod, the recurrent thought in my mind was that this woman is far more qualified to be president of the United States than the current occupant of the White House.

When I completed the journey that is Going Rogue, I wrote down five things:

–She is a positive role model for all Americans
–She is an executive, takes on hard problems and makes tough decisions
–She has tremendous energy, balance and intellect
–America shafted itself in this last election
–Alaska is lucky to have her

Oh, and a sixth, Sarah Palin could be the next president of the United States.

Her book washes away all doubts that any reader might have had about her readiness to be president. She comes across as exceptionally bright, dedicated, and passionate about public service. Her moral compass is strong, pointing true North in this case. And she has a wicked sense of humor.

The most salient take-away from Going Rogue for me was what I admired most in her campaign, which was that she had been in charge as either a mayor or a governor whereas none of the other candidates on either ticket had. Having been a commander several times in the military I know that there is a huge difference between being a hardworking and important staff officer and an ‘alone at the top’ commander. No matter how fancy the title, executive officer or Senator, at the end of the day, you are recommending to someone who actually makes the decision.

As a Governor, mayor or commander, you have the unparalleled responsibility to actually make decisions that have ramifications. There is little training that can prepare you for all those heads turning in your direction when it is decision time. You can’t blithely abstain on a vote or hide behind the guy in front of you, because you own the decision. Case in point is Obama’s inexcusable delay in making a decision on Afghanistan. His indecision, cloaked as ‘sleeves-rolled-up-pensiveness’, is an indicator that he was, at a minimum, unprepared to be commander in chief. What we see in his speech at West Point is a minimally slimmed down version of what General Stan McChrystal submitted to the president on August 30th. So now big Stan has nine months to do what he said it takes 12 months to accomplish.

Palin, on the other hand, demonstrates decisiveness and vulnerability. Is she prepared for the enormous breadth of responsibility of president? I think she’s ready for the hard part, which is making tough decisions. She’s no “Ruminator-in Chief”, that’s for sure, and if the American people think a second year back bench senator was ready to be president, I’m not sure we’ve got the right rubric out there.

Palin is real. She takes counsel of her fears and continuously comes back to her foundation of family, God, state and nation for reassurance and guidance. She has strong moral guideposts that she uses to navigate the shark infested political waters. Reading about the decisions Sarah Palin faced at multiple levels of government reminded me of something my command sergeant major in the 82nd Airborne Division used to say when we faced a tough decision together: “Sir, when you’re right, don’t worry about it.”

Palin is right on many issues such as energy policy, defense, business, and size of government. She gets it and my hope is that she firms up her base and then reaches out to moderates across this country. She has a gritty determination borne in the salmon hauls and caribou hunts that make her pioneer tough.

I am left wondering why the McCain campaign bottled her up and didn’t let the maverick, well, be a maverick. McCain made an unconventional pick and instead of hiring a Wall Street stockbroker to manage her I’m perplexed, and disappointed, that he didn’t let this one-woman campaign juggernaut do her thing. If she was accustomed to traveling all over Alaska campaigning essentially by herself or with her family by her side, surely she could have done without all of the layers of control. I believe that Sarah Palin is precisely what the American people are seeking: an honest, intelligent, passionate, practical conservative who is nonpartisan and a tough decision maker.

Oddly, as I read Going Rogue and learned the real story behind the mainstream media assault upon this patriot, I was briefly reminded of the first time I met Hillary Clinton. She was in her first year as New York’s junior senator and my impression of her was largely shaped by what I read in the newspapers or saw on television, meaning mostly negative. When she came into the Pentagon for a 45 minute briefing from my boss, I was one of four people in the room: the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, Senator Clinton, her assistant Uma Abedin, and me.

Over the next 90 minutes, she not only ignored her schedule, but she demonstrated a keen intellect, undeniable sincerity, and genuine interest in the many complex topics discussed. I came away from that meeting with an entirely different viewpoint on Senator Clinton than had been painted for me in the media. I tucked away the lesson to always remember that there is a phalanx of reporters, journalists and hate mongers who are trying to tell us all what to think.

And so it was with Sarah Palin, someone I actually supported. I think Palin recognizes that the extreme members of both parties and media put each of them through the Mixmaster, in some part because they are women, and she extends an olive branch to Clinton for a chat over a cup of coffee.

No matter what your political leanings, you better believe that Sarah Palin will step forward when the time is right. She has spine and she is called to public service. She’s been bloodied in the faux battles of presidential politics and yet she’s still standing, making tough decisions. She seems to have an iron core spirit and a will to make our country better.

And like that pipeline of ink, she seems to have an indomitable will that when attacked, unfortunately for her opponents, she doesn’t break. Her resolve seems to strengthen.

As her father said, “Sarah’s not retreating; she’s reloading.”

We should hope so, because she’s precisely the kind of leader America needs.

Look, I already know she’s the most qualified person to come along in quite some time to be POTUS. But don’t take my word for it. Take the General’s!

And as for Renee’s comment, I don’t see any mention of her wanting him to be thrown out of office because of what plane he is standing next to, nor do I even see any mention of an airplane, for that matter. I’m surprised that the White House aides did not insist that the F-22 be replaced with W.W.I
JN-4 Jenny
for the photo-op. / sarc off.

These aides must have taken the small bus to school.

God Bless and protect our BRAVE Men and Women of our Armed Forces.

and yet I was mocked to no end simply for asking to see this scumbags original birth certificate. I hope it is being clearer and clearer to you all that every f-cking thing this “man” does is unnatural an unamerican!!! Everything he does! EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!

Never got any mocking from myself or from many others, Brother.

Guess people would rather see the country go down the drain or perhaps even die than deal with the “silly” birth certificate issue.

What gets me is some fellow Conservatives going on about the sanctity of our Constitution. It’s not a question of “if” it got turned into political toilet paper by these clowns in Washington and around the country but when it happened. It’s a piece of paper that can’t protect us. It’s an ideal that has been discarded in favor of a combination of ideology and greed.

The important question is if and how we can make it mean something again.

When Clinton was in office I was still under my parents spell of liberalism. I know I missed a lot of what I would now consider astonishing. Obama, on the other hand, is so blatantly catostrophic that I am still, to this day, thinking my parents have lost all intellectual capabilities (or have been abducted and replaced by drones). In fact, anyone who can’t see who he really is is seriously messed up!

Get some perspective, please.

You get some!

It was the wrong decision not to build more F-22s.

Still, Obama’s loss; F-22′s gain.

Face it, folks. O-Bow-Mao hates America and everything our country represents.

He learned well at the knee of Frank Davis.

The only piece of military equipment he really feels comfortable with is a white flag.

Little Boomer on December 3, 2009 at 9:17 PM

Or French rifles.

Johan Klaus on December 4, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Will Obama now only be pictured next to military equipment of which he personally approves?

This is another reason that a person should have prior military service to run for president.

Johan Klaus on December 4, 2009 at 10:28 PM

Obama should have a sunken ship named after him.

I was thinking a Scud missile.
