Boxer: You know what the real issue is in Climategate? E-mail theft
posted at 8:56 pm on December 2, 2009 by Allahpundit
I’m just enough of a dummy that when I glanced at this headline, I thought she meant the researchers should be prosecuted. (Which isn’t unthinkable: George Monbiot noted last week that deleting material subject to a British FOIA inquiry is potentially criminal.) That’s what I get for even momentarily giving a hack like Boxer the benefit of the doubt.
No, of course she means the hackers should be prosecuted for illegally procuring evidence of malfeasance regarding an urgent, trillion-dollar matter of international public policy. Ace has been goofing on the shamelessness of this tactic since last week — leaks that help the left are always about the information obtained, leaks that hurt the left are always about the leak’s illegality — but it’s amazing to see someone as prominent as Boxer stoop to it. She could have simply taken the Jon Stewart route and said no, global warming isn’t in question, but yes, this is a scandalous betrayal of public trust. Doing so would have only helped her side, proving that she’s sincerely interested in the integrity of the science and not prone to the same squirrelly eagerness to ignore unhelpful information as the East Anglia boys. But she’s too stupid or corrupt to figure that out, so in the end the fake newsman has more credibility than a real senator.
Exit quotation via Daniel Henninger: “Surely there must have been serious men and women in the hard sciences who at some point worried that their colleagues in the global warming movement were putting at risk the credibility of everyone in science. The nature of that risk has been twofold: First, that the claims of the climate scientists might buckle beneath the weight of their breathtaking complexity. Second, that the crudeness of modern politics, once in motion, would trample the traditions and culture of science to achieve its own policy goals. With the scandal at the East Anglia Climate Research Unit, both have happened at once.”

Boxer is the worst. Speaker Pelosi (gulp) trumps both Boxer and Feinstein but just barely.
All three are truly not representative of the California or Californians I know personally.

Funny I don’t remember hearing Senator Boxer kicking up a stink when Governor Palin’s private email account was hacked into and the contents posted on the Internet for everyone to see last year. Oh that’s right the official DNC line at the time was that the hacking of a private email account (by the son of a prominent Democrat official mind you) wasn’t all that important compared to seeing whether or not Governor Palin was using her private email account for official Government business.

SDN on December 2, 2009 at 11:27 PM
I can’t imagine that others, like myself, who do research, are not bothered by this nonsense. It doesn’t take much for people to joke about meteorologists who can’t seem to get weather predictions right… now these “climatologists” put the public trust in scientific research in jeopardy?
I strongly suspect that such scientific misconduct seldom gets fully disciplined, or prosecuted when those involved are tenured or have large sums of grant support. At the very least, the only driving force would be a tremendous amount of public pressure. Universities do not like to be publicly embarrassed, nor do they like to lose a grant-funded cash cow.
Consider the scandal – about how Gallo stole credit (which he didn’t deserve) for the discovery of HIV from french scientists… How was he punished?
Is there a precedent for legal recourse here, perhaps a class action lawsuit, that can be filed in a case such as this? I see two scenarios:
(1) scientists (as plaintiffs) who see that there is damage of scientific credibility among the general public…..
(2) general public (as plaintiffs) who see that poor science could potentially lead to bad public & international policy/law which could lead to increased taxation and damage to national economies…

Interesting thought. We have roughly 300,000 farm workers who had their water delivery denied them. That could make a nice sized class action against a Penn State, if we could link the Mann made climate belief to the injury.

Let’s hope the good people from California vote her out in 2010 and no one will have to call her Senator or ma’am again. Power has gone to her head as well as most of the other politicians and it will be nice to bring them back to our level again.

Boxer’s corrupt, not stupid. Her only interest in truth is suppressing it. We can only pray that more and more truth is revealed. For those of us who believe in the power of prayer, let’s commit to praying everyday for truth to come to light concerning the corruption and fraud our politicians from both side of the aisle are committing against our country.

I know us clueless civilians just don’t get it, because we’re all stupid cookie-cutter cutouts of each other, but maybe you could drop some wisdom on us and tell us how in the world Carly is every bit as bad as Boxer.
She’s a global warmist? She’s a wealth-redistributing socialist? She thinks LGBT issues are important? She’s for gay marriage? She loves affirmative action and amnesty for illegals? She’s a gun-control nut? She thinks the 2004 elections were stolen? She’s an advocate of embryonic stem cell research? She’s against drilling in ANWR? She’s an abortionist? She was against the Iraq War, and wanted a timeframe for withdrawal? She was against the First Gulf War and Vietnam? She’s against both Roberts and Alito on the Supreme Court?
Because she’d have to be all these things and more to be “every bit as bad as Babra Boxer.”

misterpeasea on December 3, 2009 at 7:41 AM
OK, I’ll be the one to point out that the right, and the GOP should ENCOURAGE Boxer in this. A criminal trial about the email hacking would be good for our side, for the same reasons the KSM trial will not be. Think about the issue of discovery in the legal process.
MikeA on December 3, 2009 at 7:45 AM
Big buck$, possible Nobel Prize and 15 minutes of fame trumps integrity almost every time. Look at Al Gore…
Barbara Boxer does not believe in any thing except for spinning any event to push her twisted agenda.
I would like to watch Boxer and Pelosi in a locked room having a debate on various subjects. Wonder which would be first to fry the other person`s brain with their stupidity.
albill on December 3, 2009 at 8:26 AM
There have been many such men and women. Unfortunately the tactics employed by the CRU crowd worked well enough to marginalize anyone who didn’t agree with the warmists.
Remember the e-mail where Jones crowed about browbeating one of the climate journals into firing an editor who wasn’t sufficiently committed to the cause. Or how Jones swore that he was going to keep anti-AGW papers out of the next IPCC, even if he had to change the definition of peer review.
MarkTheGreat on December 3, 2009 at 8:44 AM
Poor Babs, another shining example that libs are not intelligent life forms. Has anyone mentioned to her that East Anglia U is in England and not New Jersey? She even mentioned that the emails were phony, where did that info come from? If they’re phony how can they have been stolen?
Wills on December 3, 2009 at 8:46 AM
Then why are they all guaranteed reelection?
SKYFOX on December 3, 2009 at 8:55 AM
Funny that UCS should be concerned about the American people being deceived now. Maybe they should have requested the original data on which these theories and models were developed to be retained. Or perhaps, they should request their peers at the forefront of the argument to refrain from using “tricks” to hide declines in the global climate.
ADB on December 3, 2009 at 8:58 AM
Lets just pretend the globalwarming info came from SARAH PALIN’S e-mail account. that would mean the hacking was just a prank to see if it could be done. But that would aslo mean CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC and CBS would all be covering the content of those e-mails.

What “Senator” Boxer is concerned about is not so much the Global Warming E-mail hacking, but the possibility that the Truth may be revealed.
She is probably erasing her E-mail accounts as fast as she can.
Uniblogger on December 3, 2009 at 10:04 AM
Hey, I say proceed with the prosecution.
I would love the opportunity to depose the authors and recievers of the emails to “verify that they were authentic” and that every word contained in them were the actual message with no changed meaning.
barnone on December 3, 2009 at 10:06 AM
I’m personally positive that Sen. Babs Boxer, Ma’am, has taken these scurrilous tactics (emphasizing the criminality of the released e-mails over the content thus released) and introduction into the record of intent to investigate the tangential issue of “how released” rather than “what released” directly from The Inquisition.
.

I can’t believe how corrupt politics has been allowed to become.
I cant believe what politicians can get away with. We are talking TRILLIONS world wide in global warming legislation. We are looking at the stripping of peoples rights and property through the enforcement arm of the EPA, potentially skyrocketing enrgy costs, the potential destruction of our manufacturing base, jobs lost as entire industries leave the country that which could result in the entire rust from Chicago to Philidelphia turning into one giant Detroit, all based on junk data, FRAUDULENT data and not a prosecution or lawsuit in site…
