Palin’s book sells a million copies in two weeks
posted at 2:55 pm on December 1, 2009 by Allahpundit
After HarperCollins massively boosted the initial run print, I wondered whether they might conceivably have to boost it again. Ten days later, we have our answer.
In all likelihood, with Christmas coming up, sales aren’t even to the halfway point yet.
The print run for “Going Rogue” has been increased again, to 2.8 million copies. The original printing was 1.5 million, then moved up to 2.5 million.
“Going Rogue” joins a select club of million-selling political memoirs that includes Barack Obama’s “The Audacity of Hope,” Hillary Rodham Clinton’s “Living History” and Bill Clinton’s “My Life.”
BJ’s memoir sold in excess of 2.2 million. How close will Sarahcuda come to that? Well, if the Daily Beast was right about HC aiming for a sell-through rate of 75 percent, presumably this means they think she’s going to glide in at 2.1 million or so. Or does it? If they’ve already got a print run of 2.5 million on hand, why boost production further unless they think it’s necessary to meet demand? Maybe they honestly think she’s going to sell somewhere just south of … 3 million copies.
The media’s handling the news by calling her a phony populist, natch, for having used a private jet instead of the bus on some legs of her bus tour. Conservatives 4 Palin answered that charge yesterday, but needlessly so: Neither righties nor lefties have any big problem reconciling luxury with populism, especially in an age when John Edwards presents himself as an anti-poverty crusader and Glenn Beck makes Forbes’s list of the most highly paid celebrities. If anything, I think her supporters relish the fact that the hometown girl has made good by earning millions for the book and $100K a pop to speak. Getting rich is the American dream, and Palin’s all about the American dream. And let’s face it, if she wasn’t hopping on the HarperCollins jet occasionally, the media would be dumping on her for using a high-end bus instead of going Greyhound. She can’t win, so why try? Click the image to watch.

Congrats to Gov Palin from someone hoping her book sales strip out Obama’s and Billary’s sales figures. As for the private jet, you go girl. If you didn’t use one occasionally the press would call Palin white trash who couldn’t even afford to use one or didn’t have enough high level friends to be able to board one. If Palin got a ride on Santa’ sleigh the leftwing media would criticize her for reindeer abuse.

What is her position on Dept of Education?
What about Kasmir?
What about flat tax or fair tax?
How about Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, hate crime, Shariah law?
And on and on.
I’m just saying this was not a policy book and I think Sarah should write one along the line of Goldwater’s Conscience of a Conservative. I would like to see some gravitas and not just assume she has it.

I’m giving books to two of my most liberal friends. If they get mad so be it but I’m tired of having to correct their erroneous beliefs about Sarah which they get from the MSM… I just hope they actually read it!

I am reading her book now & find her very genuine.
She speaks like I think & speak.
I like that.
She’s a real person.
Reading about her & Todd & their fishing business taking a dive after the Exxon Valdez thing-it made me cringe.
Anytime someone mentions BSE (Mad cow) in the news, the packers use it as an excuse to take pennies on the dollar for beef, but when you buy it in the store, you still pay the same as you did before the scare.
Her fish story reminded me of our industry’s similarities-ordinary people trying to make a living.
Good for her!
The more I hear her speak, the more I read of her own words, the more I want to support her!

A lot of people say, “Why are you still standing? How are you still standing? Why are you coming back for more?”
On Facing Challenges:
This first interview segment shows Sarah Palin discussing how she came to know Jesus Christ as her Savior. “I’m not shy about talking about my faith, because for me my faith, my family, and my freedom as an American are the most important things in my life,” said the governor.
“I always have that foundation of faith that I can stand strong on and hold on to, to get through challenges. My faith in Christ is really, at the end of the day, my be all end all.”

All you have to do is apply Conservative thinking and the Constitution to those questions. If you aren’t Conservative then this will bother you. If you are a detail person then this will bother you. I am not a mind reader, but the way Sarah solves problems by having honesty, freedom, and liberty as her top concern leads me to believe that she will do well and govern wisely. All the nit-picky stuff will take care if itself. If you have read her book, then you will surmise that she will be writing another one. Perhaps she will address all of this stuff to your satisfaction. For now staying close to the Constitution is good enough for me.

I remember reading on this very webpage about the deep concern for how many books Palin would sell. Remember, if she did not sell 400,000 then the book would lose money, yada, yada, yada…

Hey, Huckster. Here’s what this book does (for me anyway). It provided the prism through which she views the role of Govt in people’s lives, thereby illuminating the core principles that define how she approaches decision-making in a governmental role. Her principles, (I know, a foreign concept to lefties) shaped by her life experiences as related in her book, provide a framework for her decision-making process, that I could not be more pleased with.
Would I agree with EVERY decision she makes? Maybe not, but given her core principle of getting Govt out of the way of the people, and keeping Govt subservient to the wishes of its constituents and adhering to strict originalist constitutional interpretations – is all I need to make my decision about supporting her. All this is in her book, if you’re intellectually honest enough to buy and read it (which I doubt). I pray Sarah Palin is our next president, 3 years from now.

John the Libertarian on December 1, 2009 at 5:32 PM
It’s really comical at this point! Despite all of the important events happening in the world today – the president’s speech tonight on the strategy in Afghanistan, the Senate debate over health care reform, the disturbing details of the “Climategate” scandal, the continuing challenges facing the world economy – the media is concerned about my travel and lodging arrangements on my book tour?! Does this sound familiar? It should. The media showed the same out-of-proportion obsession with my personal arrangements, clothes, and hairstyles last year instead of focusing on the crucial issues involving the election.
So what is this news “story”? That I fly on an airplane to complete some of the stops on my book tour when it’s impractical or physically impossible to reach the next event on time by bus. Some news outlets are behaving as if my travel was a secret that they didn’t know about – despite the fact that I’ve tweeted about my flights and at least one local newspaper reported on the arrival of my flight into Rochester, NY. What’s even funnier is that these same media outlets think it’s shocking that we stay in hotels. I guess they expected us to pitch a tent alongside the road. We love the great outdoors, but such an arrangement is hardly practical for a book tour. Using common sense, it was determined that traveling by plane between some stops would save time and energy and allow me to go to more events. Economically speaking for HarperCollins, it’s more efficient to travel by charter, and I am very grateful to the publisher for providing my family and me with this incredible opportunity to shake hands with as many Americans as possible on this book tour.
If you’re scratching your head wondering why my flight and hotel logistics warrant news coverage, join the club. They can, of course, report on whatever they like, but in my opinion CBS loses whatever professional integrity it still has when it links in its report to a website devoted to the bizarre conspiracy theory that I’m not the real mother of my son Trig.
I’m truly humbled by the response to my book tour by everyday Americans, and if traveling by plane means that I can meet more of these wonderful people, I’ll travel by plane (or bus or train or canoe or dog sled or whatever it takes). Please enjoy the photos below!

It’s a memoir, people. After the drubbing she took from the LSM, Palin needed to reintroduce herself to America. If she wants to involve herself more in policy, she can start making the Sunday show rounds or write another book. The book is good from all accounts, and I’m looking forward to getting my copy.

Huckleberry, I’m with Betsey on this one, and Rush for that matter. The book is full of policy. She gives the reader insight as to how she arrived at her policy making process. Since she didn’t have to make any decisions on Kasmir, I wouldn’t expect it in an autobiography. You need to rethink your position. Pretty lame at this point.
imadds on December 1, 2009 at 6:05 PM
She has my vote. I hate Huck – I dont hate Romney – but he is a RINO – but at least I trust him on the economy. Romneycare was awful – but I hope he has learned his lesson.
So far Palin to me is the only one that MEANS WHAT SHE SAYS. And she fights and is not afraid to call something for what it is.
Newt has shown that while he is a great speaker his decisions reveal him to be the RINO he really is.
I would love for Steve Forbes, Jim DeMint or Cheney to run – but they are outsiders at this point.

I have great expectations for this fine lady. She will do us proud.
PS – Was at local Northern L.A. (Conservative) suburb yesterday. They had one copy of Going Rogue left.
Teddy Kennedy’s memoir stack was untouched.

AnninCA on December 1, 2009 at 8:42 PM
She could have driven her own pickup truck with granny in the back in a rocking chair, but that’s been done.
I have to say, just having flown across country, coach, after the holiday, I was not aware that flying in an airplane was a sign of elitism. I was, honestly, cramped and a bit grumpy. If I’d only known I was a member of the privileged class, I’d have demanded some privileges.
What I got was a choice of cookie, peanuts or pretzels.

I bought the hardback copy first and am enjoying it. The other night I bought the audio from iTunes – it is great to hear her in her own words. Sarah is an excellent speaker as it is and her audio version really projects her speaking abilities. However, the audio version leaves a lot of fun anecdotes/stories out – that’s the only thing about only purchasing the audio version, I would recommend both.

Todd is a licensed pilot. Not sure about the ‘Cuda. They have a vintage Piper that can land on the water, they keep it at their lake home. In fact, they named their daughter Piper after the plane.
gary4205 on December 1, 2009 at 11:45 PM
So it’s OK for Hollywood pilots to take private planes, like Harrison Ford and John Travolta, but not OK for Sarah Palin, private citizen?
The whole point of ‘making it rich’ is to do things like have a luxury car, fly first-class, take nice vacations, whatever floats your boat.
The first thing I would do with my millions is buy a new house on a huge chunk of land – no HOA to tell me what to do with my property. I would have my own park in the backyard and entertainment facilities like a pool, game room, home theater, etc. Then I would get a housekeeper, someone like Alice from the Brady Bunch. My dream is to never do laundry or dishes again. Oh, isn’t that just like all those Hollywood stars?
