Recovery.con?

posted at 1:00 pm on November 29, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

A little over a week ago, the Putnam County Courier joined the list of regional newspapers that have begun asking serious questions about Porkulus job accounting.  The Courier goes as far as to call the “saved or created” claims of the Obama administration “Recovery.con,” in its headline.  Michael Brendan Dougherty finds many of the same kinds of fraud that newspapers around the nation have in the claims by the White House of stimulus success:

Recovery.gov, the Obama administration’s attempt at creating transparency in the $787-billion dollar stimulus program, is a transparent failure in Putnam County.

The Federal government claims that when Putnam County purchased five Paratransit vans with $319,000 of federal stimulus funds, 60 jobs were saved. A casual visitor to Recovery. gov might think that those 60 jobs were in Putnam County. But John Lynch, Putnam County’s Commissioner of Planning/Development and Public Transportation, said, “That number of 60 jobs is incorrect.”

In fact, the number of jobs that should appear on the report is not 60, but just 1.54, and those one and a half jobs are actually in New Paris, Indiana. Whether by bureaucratic error, or deliberate maneuvering, the administration has inflated claims of job creation based on Putnam County stimulus spending. Other stimulus-funded projects in Putnam County are riddled with reporting errors and inaccuracies.

Recovery.gov reports that Putnam County has received $1,092,595 of stimulus money for projects, $319,000 of which was dedicated to purchasing five new Paratransit vans, manufactured by Turtletop Busses in Indiana. Lynch told the Courier that the inaccurate number of 60 jobs created by the purchase of vans “counted both the second and third fiscal quarters, when it was only supposed to count the third quarter.” Putnam County officials tried to correct the number before the third quarter report was issued, but were “frozen out of the system” according to Lynch.

As in other jurisdictions, the Courier finds that most of the money went to education — where jobs really weren’t at risk at all:

Many of the other projects listed on Recovery. gov relate to local schools. Education related stimulus spending was first dispersed from the federal government to states, and then the states in turn awarded grants based on applications. In Putnam, the Carmel Central School district received over $2.2 million dollars. According to the government’s own reporting, this money has saved and created no jobs whatsoever. Superintendent Dr. James Ryan did not immediately respond to inquiries for this story. But according to other school officials, such numbers on the government’s transparent Web site are inaccurate.

The Brewster Central school district received $1,828,466. “Basically a lot of it went to saving jobs that were slated to be eliminated last spring,” said Assistant Superintendent Timothy Conway. “Then a fair amount of it has gone to help children who are from low socio-economic backgrounds or those who need extra help in school. All of it is going in those areas of direct instruction.”

“I think it is somewhere between ten and twelve [jobs that were saved],” said Conway, “I think they were almost all teachers and one administrative position.” Documentation for these claims was not immediately available, though the Courier has requested it. Asked how long these jobs were off the chopping block, Conway said, “My understanding is the stimulus money is a two year commitment” Asked whether any of the teachers knew that their jobs would have been cut absent the federal money, Conway responded, “No.”

That’s because those jobs weren’t at risk.  Porkulus funds allowed the states to shift money from education to other areas of the state bureaucracy by pasting over their budget gaps.  States would not have laid off teachers, police officers, and firefighters in the absence of that cash.  They would have been forced to cut other areas of the budget, trim bureaucracies and red tape, and position their states for better tax and spending policies in the future.

But even if we accept the notion that ten to twelve jobs got saved, the investment is rather eye-opening.  It amounts to $152,372.16 for every job saved in the Brewster School District.  That’s for a two-year commitment, by the way, which makes it over $76,000 for each job per year — which seems a little high for teachers, but not for some other bureaucrats in the state system.  And what happens when the money runs out?

Let’s add New York to the list of states whose media are discovering the fraud of Porkulus:

Didn’t Prime Minister Thatcher say something about socialists running out of other people’s money to spend? Somebody is gonna cancel our credit cards.

The sad part is that I hear even conservatives crying about the mess The One inherited. Since Republican administrations have never inherited problems or had attacks on the country during their watch there is sure some basis for all this empathy. Nobody mentions that community organizers just beg and harass and spend government treasure. So this whole program was right in The One’s wheelhouse for a spending blast right out of the park.

Afghanistan and the economy will be a disaster. And we can only imagine the wonderful job the White House wonders would have done with Iraq if the outcome was still in question.

1) Hire a bunch of people with no private industry experience

3) Expect them to outperform those with private industry experience

He’s not the only CON in the WH!

This has nothing to do with race but has to do with greed, egotism, and spending of over $1,500,000 PER YEAR in personal salaries by the first lady in a time of severe financial problems in the U.S. This is amazing!!

From the CanadaFree Press :
First Lady Requires More Than Twenty Attendants
July 7, 2009

Written by Dr. Paul L. Williams,Canada Free Press.

Obama

No, Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First
Lady and she doesn’t perform any official duties. But
this hasn’t deterred her from hiring an unprecedented
number of staffers to cater to her every whim and to satisfy
her every request in the midst of the Great Recession.
Just think, Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china
for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhower
had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary from her husband’s salary.

Total Personal Staff members for other first ladies paid by taxpayers:
Mamie Eisenhower : 1 paid for personally out of President’s salary
Jackie Kennedy: 1
Roseline Carter: 1
Barbara Bush: 1
Hilary Clinton: 3
Laura Bush: 1
Michele Obama: 22

How things have changed! If you’re one of the tens of
millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning
less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart
or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and
then come to realize that the benefit package for these
servants of Ms Michelle are the same as members of the
national security and defense departments and the bill for
these assorted lackeys is paid by YOU, John Q. Public:
Michele Obama’s personal staff:
1.. $172,200 – Sher, Susan (Chief Of Staff)
2. $140,000 – Frye, Jocelyn C. (Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Policy And Projects For The First Lady)

22. $35,000 – Jackson, Deilia A. (Deputy Associate Director of Correspondence for the First Lady)

There has NEVER been anyone in the White House at any time

Whenever destroyers appear among men, they start by destroying money, for money is men’s protection and the base of a moral existence. Destroyers seize gold and leave to its owners a counterfeit pile of paper. This kills all objective standards and delivers men into the arbitrary power of an arbitrary setter of values. Gold was an objective value, an equivalent of wealth produced. Paper is a mortgage on wealth that does not exist, backed by a gun aimed at those who are expected to produce it. Paper is a check drawn by legal looters upon an account which is not theirs: upon the virtue of the victims. Watch for the day when it bounces, marked, ‘Account overdrawn.’

You can lie about winning/losing a war, you can lie about jobs being “saved or created”, you can lie about who really won an election, you can lie about the economy, you can lie about your political enemies including common Citizens…but when someone doesn’t have a job you can’t lie and convince them and their neighbors that they are not actually unemployed.

Along the same lines I would venture to doubt the data collected by those promoting Obamacare are suspect as well. The data that supports the need for taking over 1/6 of the economy needs to be peer reviewed *cough* again. We can’t count on the MSM to do the who, what, where, and how anymore. We know that democrats agenda is in alignment with most of upper echelons of the media outlets. Too many powerful Machiavellian conspirators are sleeping in the same beds of liberal ideology. What is the honest and true data of where we are really? Did the people in power aided by the media omit or manipulate the data to forward this monstrosity of legilation? Does fake but accurate not ring any bells? What is the present state of health care in the United States? Will ever know the truth?

Can it be that the data collected by socialist-liberial minded people was faked but accurate? I.e,. Man made global warming comes to mind. What was their end game and now why is their data manipulation to support global warming finally seeing the light of day? I’m not a conspiracy theorist but the like minded people who tried to sell us global warming are the same people selling us Obamacare. Can we not connect the dots or shall our loins to be girded in perpetuity.

This recovery.org seems to be another attempt to say that they are doing one thing but the reality is that government intervention in the creation of long term jobs is a fallicy and always will be a fallicy. You give these kids in government the authority to spend and they take those billions of dollars and mismanage those funds on the same wreckless scale. John Maynard Keynes is dead and so should his macro-economic philosophy. America experienced that heavy government intervention during the great depression. Must we live through it again to prove Keynesian economics only weakens economic growth and our ideals of american exceptionalism. Government has decided to get in the way again and we know from our own history that hasn’t worked in the long run.

We obviously cannot believe any information coming out of the government or most other sources we are supposed to be able to trust.

The GDP is rigged and false. I just learned yesterday that the Bozo administration had all the GDP numbers “revised” all the way back to 1929. (See the BEA.gov website)

The actual unemployment numbers are all lies. They revise them two or three times UPWARD each time they report them and they never put out the actual number.

“Saved or created” is a laughable hoax right up there with Climategate.

And the Bozo clown posse yet manages to stand up with a straight face and insist they are right.

And the “Fake but accurate” LSM refuse to even look at it. Oh thats right, they’re brainwashed tools.
