Real journalism died back in the 60′s, if not before. It’s took till the 90′s for the stench to become so bad that it could no longer be ignored.

What the press did for Obama was no worse then what they did for Kerry. Obama’s advantage was that he was more telegenic and had white guilt going for him as well.

Anybody who has ever been interviewed or covered by a reporter knows that they routinely make stuff up; nobody complains when the fantasy quotes are innocuous or complimentary but when you have a reporter like Rainey, who has an agenda, mendacity is a minor inconvenience until he meets a guy like Patterico.

I wouldn’t call what Moore does “fancy editing”. Fancy editing is a wipe transition married to a pan, or a cross fade into similarly framed shots of different scenes — see “Highlander” for some great examples.

What Moore does is blatant lying. Pasting lines from two different speeches together, with the cut “hidden” by a supposed audience reaction shot, as he reportedly did to Charlton Heston, isn’t “fancy” — it’s a lie.
