Video: Turkey saved or created at the White House

posted at 4:10 pm on November 25, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via MKH. I wish I could take credit for the headline but that joke comes straight from The One himself, winking here at the sublime nonsense of his job numbers. And why not? No one’s buying it, so he might as well have fun with it. This is actually surprisingly funny in parts, most notably the line that comes at 2:35 but more generally in Obama’s amusement over the whole goofy ritual. Too bad Biden had to go and one-up him.

As for the policy implications here, Lileks has got you covered. When will we learn?

He saw “Louis Rich” on the package, and thought it was Marc Rich’s brother.

“When this turkey was born few would have foreseen the day when America would be led by a man of African descent.”

Let me be clear, we, um, have a lot, to, um, be thankful for. Just 10 months ago, um, all across the country, uh, people voted in a … historic election … for [long pause while teleprompter is rebooted and text is fed back in] uh … for score and seven years … ago … [ another pause, shakes head] .. uh, uh, for me.

Turkey “saved or created” is pretty good, but the fine folks at Fark did you one better:

News media reports that Obama has pardoned his first turkey. AIG and GM beg to differ

Dodd on November 25, 2009 at 9:06 PM

Boy, first he kills a fly on camera and then he makes light of the turkey pardoning. Teh One is batting a thousand with PETA.

NoLeftTurn on November 25, 2009 at 9:20 PM

The turkey pardoning ritual is so lame. A truly wise chief executive would have some turkey slaughtering going on in the background to get a little attention.

There Goes The Neighborhood on November 25, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Hmmmmm, white turkey, obviously a tea party type domestic terrorist foul. Yep, I knew it, he only has a right wing…..Off with his head!!!!

conservnut on November 25, 2009 at 9:36 PM

So now he’s The Un-Precedent? I’m so confused! What about his nuts?

ya2daup on November 25, 2009 at 9:38 PM

I thought that was Hillary until I saw that its calves were shapelier.

Cicero43 on November 25, 2009 at 4:28 PM

Experienced birders adhere to this rule for correct identification: “Turkeys have wattles, the SecState has cankles”

ya2daup on November 25, 2009 at 9:47 PM

The turkey pardon is silly, but I did think Obama’s remarks were funny.

Yellowdog12 on November 25, 2009 at 10:13 PM

Pretty funny. He actually has good comedic timing.

crr6 on November 25, 2009 at 11:08 PM

I was convinced he was going to pardon every turkey in America so we couldn’t have our holiday.

crr6 on November 25, 2009 at 11:08 PM

Yeah, too bad for us all he didn’t go into stand-up, as opposed to say, community organizing…

Say, where was the First “Lady” during this?

It must take a dozen or so courtesans to stuff her into a girdle for these public events, so maybe she didn’t consider it girdleworthy.

justltl on November 26, 2009 at 7:19 AM

“Courtesans” is probably not the right word there, is it?
Sorry.
Substitute “maids-in-waiting” or “powerlifters” or something.

justltl on November 26, 2009 at 7:32 AM

Can we say to Obowma to “stuff it”?

dthorny on November 26, 2009 at 8:13 AM

Pretty funny. He actually has good comedic timing.

crr6 on November 25, 2009 at 11:08 PM

Wonderful, we get four years of laughs with the clown.

dthorny on November 26, 2009 at 8:15 AM

A funny turd is still a turd and, ultimately, what’s funny about that?
How I long for a president with the balls to just say “Hell, no” to these infantile photo-ops with turkeys and pro/college ball teams, etc. Just ask yourself, if the cameras were’nt there, would he do it? Of course not.

SKYFOX on November 26, 2009 at 10:26 AM

The ‘saved or created’ snark probably went over well with those currently unemployed.

Prez Douchenozzle just can’t help himself.

Pretty funny. He actually has good comedic timing.

crr6 on November 25, 2009 at 11:08 PM

And the unemployed are ROFLOL.

GrannyDee on November 26, 2009 at 5:50 PM

Mr. President, “UNEMPLOYMENT” is not something to make fun of.

You’re alluding that those people losing their jobs and trying hard to look for another one are just “turkeys” in your dinner table, waiting for your mercy not to be slaughtered.

You’ve disgraced your office.

It’s time for the Americans to revolt against your “Royal” attitude. One year is enough.
