Video: Interview with Dr. Bernadine Healy on ObamaCare

Earlier this morning, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Bernadine Healy, the Health Editor for US News and World Report, about the efforts by Democrats to reform the American health-care system. Dr. Healy is uniquely positioned to offer analysis on this topic; she served on two Presidential task forces on science and health during the two Bush administrations, ran the National Institute of Health (the first woman to have held that position), and served as president of the Red Cross. Dr. Healy is also a cancer survivor herself, giving her a well rounded view of the American delivery of health care and the critical need for patient choice.
Earlier this week, she wrote that ObamaCare attacks that doctor-patient relationship and the choices it makes in treating illnesses, which I highlighted in this post. Dr. Healy agreed to talk with me today to discuss that, and how the US Preventive Services Task Force guidelines on mammography foreshadow the use of “comparative effectiveness” in ObamaCare. Watch it all.

Under Obamacare we’ll have more freedom and liberty to choose lawyers than we will Doctors.
(Actually that makes for an intersting point… shouldn’t we have universal lawyer coverage first?)

I’ll say it again:
Bernadine Healy & Peggy Noonan: separated at birth.

Keep her on the airwaves. She’s right, she’s bright, and she knows what she’s talkin’ about.

Minor irritant. When can we stop doing first non-white male person to do something?

Ed actually ran a column months ago arguing for exactly that, although mostly (?) in jest.

I am the first white male with a mole on his left butt cheek to post a comment here today. Adulation should commence at once.

When are we going to have the government require everyone to own a gun?
Gotcha on November 25, 2009 at 10:27 AM
The left is always railing about how conservatives want to get into your bedroom. On the otherhand, the Democrats will let you do what you want with your sex parnter(s) but want to control everything else about your life. Funny thing is, that under the rule of the Republican Taliban I never found any conservative peeping toms lurking about and interferring with my erotic activities.

Oh, I thought we were already required to own 24.

You should see Dr. Healy about that.

Perhaps that says more about the lack of anything interesting going on in that department?

I met Dr. Healy during her tenure @ OSU. Y’all would like her: smart, tough & funny. Also prettier than Peggy Nooner.

Ed, thanks for these scoops and interesting interviews. Makes another great reason to come to Hot Air.

Ed, the kind of stuff you are doing is treading perilously close to journalism. Don’t you have to have a Journalism Degree to do that? And if you do, when are you ever going to release your transcripts?

You don’t think that the federal government passing a bill to spend 2.5T over each 10 years has anything to do with ‘economic news’? Let me assure you that if this thing passes, the entire budget will be dedicated to this before anything is done within 20 years. No teachers, no wars, no disaster relief, no nothing but paying for Obamacare and the interest on the debt that it causes.
Obamacare is economic news. If it passes, it will be the all encompassing federal budget. Put it this way. . . America spends 2.5T each year on health care. Obama and dems want to control ALL of that. They only bring in 1.7B in revenue now.

Anyone have a good source on how many persons in the medical field will either retire, move overseas or simply retire if Obamacare becomes law.
