That is the problem. The left has no understanding of economics. So they play like it is a zero sum game and think that if they raise taxes to 90% on the "rich" that they will actually get that revenue. They won't, people will either hide their income, or they will just stop making that much.

No one is going to work hard just to hand it over to someone else nor should they. This will have a devastating effect on an already crippled economy, not to mention the crime it will create when the inevitable black market takes off.

The biggest problem with the low IQ democratic plan is there will be no way to pay for it in 10 years. Tax revenues will be decreasing as less people work for companies and many become independent contractors. There will be very large incentives for individuals to hide income to keep their health care payments to the government low.

And for many on the lazy left, there will be even less incentive to work. Taxes on the "rich" with incomes above $250k will go back toward 90%, but income above that level will then be hidden, making tax revenues fall even more. The program will be bankrupt by 2020, and the economy of the USA will be back where it was in the 70's. They will then start taxing your asset base in a last gasp attempt to fund the government bureaucracy. A few years later everyone will be declaring bankruptcy and the country will fall apart.

Of course this won't happen if the loony leftist plan is stopped.

It is the mindset of the people and the mindset of congress.

#1 The 53% who voted for Obama do not understand nor can they comprehend that nothing is free in this world.

#2 Congress with their greased pensions and healthcare have set them selves up for a lifetime to be immune to the damage they cause by spending money that is not theirs with absolutley no recourse for any responsibility.

The only solution is to share the taxes with the freeloaders and get these crooks out of Washington.

Put Obama on the streets with a monkey and an organ grinder and let the masses support him.

Houston, we have a big problem. There are no adults in charge of the WH, the economy, or the Dems.

Japan saw its way out of a "lost decade" through foolish economic jiggering. We will not get out of ours in a century, if that.

Republicans should promise to repeal ‘Obamacare’ if they get a congressional majority in 2010.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall it takes a 2/3 vote of congress to repeal a law. 67 votes in the Senate, 290 in the House? It will never happen.

This monster must never be given life.

And before anyone dismisses Canada because it's a bunch of socialists....that wasn't always the case. Canada used to be a very conservative country. The radicalization of Canada happened in the 1970s when a young, hip, good looking, charismatic guy was elected as PM. He brought in nationalized health care, he decimated the military, he introduced the notion of a "muti-cultural" country, he became literally good friends with Fidel Castro. That guy was Pierre Trudeau. And within 10 years of his first election, the country was unrecognizable from what it had been.

Sound familiar?

P.S. to 9:12 AM
The government business does profit until the government fails due to the country becoming too poor to be taxed; But by then, these parasites are rich and off in their Italian villas.

I heard Dick Morris talking about the effect on medicaid as well. They say that states will have to increase medicaid to something like 200% of poverty. He said that would work in New York where it is already at that level, but in California it would add $5 billion in costs to the state. And as we all know, California is already broke. So someone somewhere will have to give up something to make this work. And that is what people are worried about.

Look to Canada for how this works. Every election the main theme there is health care. The debate is always about which party can make it run better. It has never and never will be about one party supporting private health care vs. one party supporting public health care. Once it was implemented, nationalized health care became the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th rail of politics in Canada. And the same will happen here.

And how do they pay for it? Simple. Tax everything that moves and then add a surtax on top of that tax. There is a national sales tax in Canada on top of the equivalent of state sales taxes. In some places the sales tax is 18%. And this is not a VAT, it's just a straight up sales tax. And all this on top of income tax rates that approach 50% for people making as little as $100K a year.

That's why the Dems don't really care about 2010 or even 2012. It's a short term loss for long term gain.

I beg to differ; They first make it look as if the legislation is passed to benefit the voter; Then, you are taxed at a higher rate, to pay them back for it.
That's their entire agenda. Deception and theft.

If you want to have some fun...

Next time a clerk at a retial store says happy holidays, pause for a second and then confusingly ask them "which holiday would that be'?

my daughter & I drove to Richmond 2 days ago for "light accessory shopping" (as she puts it). I searched for & bought every elephant earring, brooch & bracelet I could find.

and I told every one at the checkout "I'm buying all these elephant items because I am going to wear my Republican heart on my sleeve for the next year. We must take our country back".

to a woman, each checkout clerk grinned & said "yes, thank goodness you're out there everyday campaigning for us.

The mood of the country is ripe for an overthrow of the Dems & a repeal of most of the entitlement laws.
