Taxes on the “rich” with incomes above $250k will go back toward 90%, but income above that level will then be hidden, making tax revenues fall even more. The program will be bankrupt by 2020, and the economy of the USA will be back where it was in the 70′s. They will then start taxing your asset base in a last gasp attempt to fund the government bureaucracy. A few years later everyone will be declaring bankruptcy and the country will fall apart.

I heard Dick Morris talking about the effect on medicaid as well. They say that states will have to increase medicaid to something like 200% of poverty. He said that would work in New York where it is already at that level, but in California it would add $5 billion in costs to the state. And as we all know, California is already broke. So someone somewhere will have to give up something to make this work. And that is what people are worried about.

Look to Canada for how this works. Every election the main theme there is health care. The debate is always about which party can make it run better. It has never and never will be about one party supporting private health care vs. one party supporting public health care. Once it was implemented, nationalized health care became the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th rail of politics in Canada. And the same will happen here.

And how do they pay for it? Simple. Tax everything that moves and then add a surtax on top of that tax. There is a national sales tax in Canada on top of the equivalent of state sales taxes. In some places the sales tax is 18%. And this is not a VAT, it’s just a straight up sales tax. And all this on top of income tax rates that approach 50% for people making as little as $100K a year.

That’s why the Dems don’t really care about 2010 or even 2012. It’s a short term loss for long term gain.
