Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on November 25, 2009 by Ed Morrissey

You know, Barack Obama’s critics called him The One in order to lampoon the adoration from his supporters that seemed to come in inverse proportion to his actual accomplishments.  It turns out that his opinion of himself is at least as high as his adoring followers — and Obama apparently thinks the head of the government of India should share it, too, as Kevin Williamson reports at The Corner:

President Obama welcomed Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to the White House with words that have inspired snickers in New Delhi:

“Yours is the first official state visit of my presidency, its fitting that you and India be so recognised,” 48-year-old Obama told the 77-year-old Indian leader.

The general reaction in India has been: Who the heck does this guy think he is? Note to the Great Diplomat: When you do a head of state an honor, you don’t remind him, in public, of the fact that you have done him an honor, particularly in self-aggrandizing terms of this sort.

Maybe he expected Singh to bow…

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

I almost hate to mention it, but the incessant nit-picking regarding Obama’s alleged protocol sins is starting to sounf a lot like “how could we trust a dumb Negro to meet foreign leaders.”

A lot.

Maybe you should find another line of attack.

On a more conciliatory note, it seemed a smart and classy move to invite Jindhal.

INDIA would be our most significant global ally this new century if America gave India due respect.

Obama is The Ugly American: American Global Arrogance and Failure.

maverick muse on November 25, 2009 at 9:39 AM

you’re an idiot.

The 48-year-old American leader set the mood for the day when he greeted everyone at the beginning of a joint press conference with Singh with a traditional Indian “Namaste”. He went on to describe India as a “rising and responsible” power and voiced confidence that it will assume its rightful place as a global leader in this century.

In the evening, as he raised the toast along with Singh at the high-profile state dinner, the first black American President reached out to India by greeting the audience in Hindi with “Aapka Swagat Hai” (you are welcome).

While Singh wished the Americans -”a happy Thanksgiving,” marked on the fourth Thursday of November in the US, Obama pointed out that the White House had celebrated both Diwali and the birthday of Guru Nanak for the first time this year.

“Tonight, we gather again, for the first State Dinner of my presidency — with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Mrs Gursharan Kaur, as we celebrate the great and growing partnership between the United States and India,” he said.

Who cares what Obama’s race is? I care about his policies and actions as president.

Obama is ignorant of diplomatic protocol in his foreign visits. He appears to think he knows better, bowing when he shouldn’t.

Obama acted very narcissistic and partisan in how he has handled his guests, and non-guests, in first official state visit in the United States.

This is not good for our country.

They are elected representatives of the people of the United States, who if you look at the polls, are far more reflective of the general public’s current opinion. By leaving them off the list Mr. Obama is stating that those people, the people he swore an oath to represnt, don’t matter because they disagree with him. There always has and always will be dissention and by excluding them Mr. Obama proves he isn’t up to the task of accepting that.

From the W.H. website:

On Friday we hosted a reception commemorating the 540th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first guru in Sikhism. It was the first time that this holiday has ever been celebrated at the White House. Members of the Sikh community from around the country were invited to celebrate the occasion with traditional hymns led by the Sikh Kirtani Chanters from the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India. Several administration officials were in attendance, including Dr. John Holdren (Office of Science & Technology Policy), Tina Tchen (Office of Public Engagement), Michael Strautmanis (Chief of Staff to Valerie Jarrett), Adolfo Carrion (Urban Affairs), and Nancy Anne DeParle (Health Reform).

Unreal. Note that the evil creep John Holdren was in attendance. When is The Zero going to celebrate L. Ron Hubbard?

genso,

India represents an eternity on earth.

We understand, India used to include Pakistan until recently (in historical terms) the Brits altered territorial maps and governance last century while yet occupying India as a colony.

My point is that the Hindi, Buddhists and Muslims et.al. know each other COMPLETELY in India, having lived together as long as all parties have existed, without the Hindi or Buddhists converting to the Muslim faith. If ANY culture is to be emulated by America in terms of UNDERSTANDING Muslims and their concept of Islam, it is INDIA that has survived and will survive intact.

Allow me to digress somewhat to seal the deal under the law. I read once an interview between a BBC correspondent and a cultural diplomat historian representing the Indian government. The correspondent was angling for a guilt trip to lay on Britain from the diplomat who disarmed the correspondent immediately. First, the diplomat acknowledged the suffering India endured with the cultural/racial discrimination under British Colonialism. But he immediately expressed what India learned from its British experience. He thanked the British Government for having established parliamentary process of law AND for the magnificent bureaucracy that parliamentary government happens to provide so many jobs for so many people. My jaw dropped for a moment, reacting as an American against bogus bureaucracy for its own sake. But listening to the Indian’s expression, I was reminded that IF only the best minds devoted to the common unified ideal to produce improvement for the masses, without corruption, then more power to India.

Our Constitutional Republic functions properly on that same principle requiring RESPECT for integrity, throughout our population and leadership. When the corrupt permeate any government, no matter the structural integrity, ruin results.

Illustration? 9/11 showed how to bring down the Twin Towers that were designed to withstand the natural forces of wind without breaking. Find what something is not designed to deal with and manipulate that weakness.

The law is no respecter of persons. The American Constitutional Republic is NOT designed to deal with PC other than to strike it down as unconstitutional as we are all Constitutionally guaranteed equal standing under the law, the Constitution being the supreme law of the land.

Sikhism
A progressive religion well ahead of its time when it was founded over 500 years ago, The Sikh religion today has a following of over 20 million people worldwide and is ranked as the worlds 5th largest religion. Sikhism preaches a message of devotion and remembrance of God at all times, truthful living, equality of mankind and denounces superstitions and blind rituals. Sikhism is open to all through the teachings of its 10 Gurus enshrined in the Sikh Holy Book and Living Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

It would be a horribly grotesque error in judgment to associate Guru Nanak Dev Ji of the Sikh religion in any way whatsoever with the likes of L. Ron Hubbard or Joseph Smith.

A lot of Americans think it a good idea for Obama to greet the Dali Lama as well as other Central Asian religious/political figures.

That’s a proper greeting.

Buffalo bbq on the menu? I wondered about the ritual animal sacrifices being made to the Hindi goddess. If the cow is sacred, it seems the buffalo serves as the animal kingdom’s scape goat for this festival.

Well, given our Thanksgiving season, their modern festival sacrificial meat is sold to benefit charity.

In appreciation for America’s international allies, Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. /Signing off to prep for tomorrow’s feast.

You’re right. I didn’t mean to disparage Sikhs, my point was about the multi-culti approach where everything but our own culture is celebrated.

I can’t wait to see what the W.H. Thanksgiving message is. I’m predicting something along the lines of, “We have spent too many years emphasizing how the Indians and Pilgrims came together in Thanksgiving, while failing to reveal the dark underbelly of our nation’s earliest beginnings. The Pilgrim extremists mistreated the Native Americans. and we cannot let this sin remain unremarked upon from the highest office in the land. There can be no national redemption without admitting our collective guilt.”

I don’t recommend making such accusations to a man’s face, as opposed to the cowardly making of such accusations on a blog comment. Pulling that stuff to a man’s face just might have some negative consequences, such as a loud and critical evaluation of your ancestry and personal habits.
