Wow: Among independents, GOP leads by 24 points on the generic ballot

posted at 8:44 pm on November 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

Via Ace. Good lord, this is almost worthy of a humpbot cameo.

It’s Rasmussen too, so remember, this is among likely voters.

Republican candidates have extended their lead over Democrats to seven points, their biggest lead since early September, in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 37% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent…

Voters not affiliated with either party continue to heavily favor Republicans, 44% to 20%.

The big lead in early September was almost certainly a reaction to the August town halls about ObamaCare. Not sure whether these current numbers are a similar backlash to Pelosi and Reid pushing their health-care bills in Congress or disaffection over Afghanistan, but let’s flag ’em now as a benchmark. For what it’s worth, the new Gallup shows public opinion on O-Care split at a robust 35/42 (indies at 37/53), with 49 percent inclined to urge their congressman to vote against it.

Meanwhile, also via Ace, Gallup finds that since January The One’s approval rating is up one point among blacks, down five points among Hispanics, down seven points among other nonwhites, and down … 22 points among whites. Racists:

One reason Obama may have maintained support among blacks is their overwhelming affiliation with the Democratic Party. This is not a sufficient explanation, though, because Obama’s approval rating has dropped among Democrats even as it has held steady among blacks.

In fact, it appears as though Obama’s relatively small loss in support among Democrats has come exclusively from white Democrats. In late January/early February, Obama averaged 87% approval among white Democrats and 90% approval among nonwhite Democrats. Now, his approval rating among white Democrats is 76%, down 11 points, but is essentially the same (if not a little higher) at 92% among nonwhite Democrats.

Exit question one: Why are white Democrats racist? Exit question two: Which deep red state now has Obama’s approval rating at a feeble 51/42? Answer here.

Anything can happen, but save a broad based and aggressive economic rebound (unlikely given his policies), Obama’s numbers will suck for the rest of his term. He may have the chance to temper the gloom with some real leadership on the FP front but from what we’ve seen so far, even that’s unlikely. If we get hit again, say during KSM’s trial, then he may as well not run in 2012, which is a distinct possibility anyway given his dislike for real work.

Those Democrats surveyed were overwhelmingly in favor of a bill: 76% to 17%. By an even wider margin, 86% to 12%, Republicans were opposed. Independents were against it by 53% to 37%.

And the final % is -7?

That’s really sad. Just this afternoon I saw a headline that over a third of young black men are unemployed. Exactly what is it that Obama is doing that would actually improve his popularity among black voters? It can’t be his record on education. He killed the voucher program in DC. One of the axioms in polling (and life in general) is that something sounds real good in abstract (or from a distance) and the closer you are to it the more horrible it becomes

That’s why the Left always has to resort to poll questions “would you favor a public option”. This is like the old poll question “do you attend church”.

Everyone says sure….(and Dick Durbin says that means Single Payer here we come)

But then if you ask people if they went to church last Sunday, it’s like, well…no.

So when the rubber hits the road and the reality of Obamacare means you will pay more and get poor quality everyone say NoWay. (and the Left says yea, but I got a gun to your head, and it’s too late sucker)

Also remember that the tax increases in ObamaCare go into effect immediately so if it passes we’ll see a sharp downturn.

It’s no wonder. Republicans (Sarah, et al) said all during the election that this guy the Dems were running was a barking MARXIST only to have it pooh-poohed by the MSM. The independents listened to the MSM and voted for that candidate.

Now it is a year later and the independents are thinking to themselves “Holy crap! Those republicans were right!”.

I have a friend who went to an indoctrination “clinic” in NYC 2 yrs ago. She was told that all white people are racist, even if they aren’t. Go figure. It has to do with the “fact” that white people have all the power. Well now, since we have a black president, a black atty general, a black head of RNC and A Congressional Black Caucus, I guess that the arguement is now moot. But, in conclusion, only a truly racist ideology would instill a hatred toward one color over another. What does this tell us? A large majority of Black people HATE White people, simply because of the color of their skin. I moved from a northern state to a sounthern state years ago, and saw that very same hatred. Go Figure.

Some of the black working class have gotten some of that pride back with Obama and their attitude towards white customers has changed for the worse.
Some still blame whites for their percieved plight and cannot see that the chains that bind them are due to the democrat policies that reward bad behavior and most of those chains are of their own making, their perception.
A huge attitudinal change needs to happen in the Black community but those they trust are the democrats and very few of them will speak the truth they’d rather have votes and give handouts than the truth and hands up.

That’s because Obama is an ideologue first and an American second (and by coincidence only). Democrats, on the other hand, garner consistent 90% black support. Black AND Democrat, more like 95%.

notropis on November 24, 2009 at 11:50 PM

About the race thing, it may be too soon before the black community turns their back on Obama. If they see him as THEIR President (as one of their own), then they will likely support him for a long time. A successful Black President would likely mean a lot to them.

Sorry for being elitist by describing what others may be like. It’s just that I’m in a minority (not black), but if someone with a similar background to mine (or anything else I had a connection with) were elected, I’d want them to succeed. How long will this last? I don’t know. But from personal experience with people of my background, if the polls start to go down, it won’t be a little bit, it’ll be an avalanche. We’ll see if that happens. However, it won’t be anytime soon.

Err, while humpbotting over the 24 point gap in independents, AP misses this:

Still, in October, for the third straight month, the number of Americans identifying themselves as Democrats inched up while the number of Republicans fell slightly.

This is just more proof that tea partiers are leaving the Republican Party nominally. The number of Republicans goes down as tea partiers switch identification from GOP to IND, but they still vote the same, so the gap among independents goes up. It’s really not that meaningful.

Republicans winning by 7 points overall – now that’s meaningful. If tea party independent candidates actually show up on ballots, that will be cease to be meaningful, however.

I keep harping on this, too. This is definitely the manifestation of conservatives identifying less with the RINO GOP and more as independents.

But none of this blather matters. What matters is November 2010, and we need to crush Obama and his leftist Fifth Column, take control of congress outright, neuter than socialist assclown, and begin a serious campaign to find a leader for 2012. Someone serious, who is not on the radar at present.

Too bad Bleeds Blue couldn’t make the thread.

With the 35% of young black males unemployed, you would think Obama would realize that these are jobs taken by the illegals and not push forward with his amnesty. Conservatives must realize after going through this debacle with Obama and his crew and all the destruction liberalism has done to this country, we can never be be content again to sit back and just let things happen. We did this too for far too long. We must drive a stake into the heart of the MSM, and work to take back the morals this country was founded on. We can boycott the crap Hollywood puts out, the vile music awards shows, and the crap the rappers and shock rock musicians put out. We need more Breitbarts and alternative conversative media. We can’t let up now – we have a good start!
