Quotes of the day
posted at 10:45 pm on November 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
“‘There’s been a lack of acknowledgement by our president in understanding what it is that the American military provides in terms of, obviously, the safety, the security of our country,’ Palin said during an interview with Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren. ‘I want him to acknowledge the sacrifices that these individual men and women — our sons, our daughters, our moms, our dads, our brothers and sisters — are providing this country to keep us safe.’
“‘They’re making sacrifices,’ said Palin, who visited the Army base at Fort Bragg on Monday as part of her ongoing book tour. ‘They’re putting so much on hold right now so that the homeland can be safe and they can fight for democratic ideals around our world. I want to see more acknowledgment and more respect given to them.’
“Asked specifically what she’d like to see more of from Obama, Palin said, ‘I want to see them equipped. I want to see them given everything that they need, including strategies — a surge strategy in Afghanistan, for one — so that they know that they’re there for victory, they’re not there just biding their time as lives are being lost.’”

A leader does things like this:
Palin inspires “domestic engineer” to run for Florida’s 8th Congressional District seat
Patricia Sullivan is daring to go where many women would never have dared to go before Sarah Palin and Barack Obama came on the national political scene. She’s running for Florida’s 8th Congressional District currently held by Democrat Alan Grayson against a trial lawyer and a real estate agent.
Palin inspired her; concern for her children’s futures motivated her to leave her current position as a self described Domestic Engineer/School Teacher/Community Organizer. “… and that still wouldn’t come close to covering everything I do,” quips Sullivan.
“The first thing I would like to do is repeal the “stimulus” spending bill and put all unused funds back in the Treasury. Clearly that was a tremendous failure,” says Sullivan firmly. ‘Sarah Palin really was a breath of fresh air. I remember the day she was announced as McCain’s running mate. We stopped our book work to watch TV. Our oldest daughter, Jennifer, was immediately engaged in the election because of her. I remember watching Sarah walk through crowds with Piper holding her waist and now my youngest is doing the same while I’m talking with voters in my district.
My family has always been active and engaged in the community. My husband and I have four children and have been married for 18 years. We’ve always home schooled which has given us the freedom to volunteer at all hours of the day, from nursing homes to boys and girls clubs. Two years ago I founded the Lake County 4-H Foundation which secures funding for our county 4-H program, enabling youth to attend leadership camps and participate in activities they otherwise couldn’t afford. Serving together as a family not only blesses others, but we typically receive the greater blessing!”’

this is good:
Rock star Sarah Palin needs no more time in office, excluding the space where she writes books and signs on to social networking sites. The Black-Friday-in-Walmart’s-parking-lot response to her book demonstrates her greatest appeal, namely how strong ideology trumps vast experience.
Set aside her cheerless, zealous haters, the impossible sorts who will emit tears of joy when Barack Obama gets his Nobel. Instead, the focus is on the pockets of conservatives and fair-minded independents not yet sold on her as a presidential candidate. Many who would agree with most of her political stances if they were written on a nameless sheet nonetheless think she needs more seasoning before she sends the incumbent back to community organizing.
But more time in government perversely doesn’t help one run the government better. Even noble souls can be worn down by Washington to where they’re rubber-stamping bills Meanwhile, good ideas remain the same no matter how long one holds them.
Consider the present president as a rather negative example. Obama and his staff have committed ample dismal fumbles such as incessant bowing, the willingness to brush off buddies while kissing up to vile enemies, and a startling unwillingness to Google names such as “Van Jones” and “Kevin Jennings.”
But his lack of time served in the government isn’t Obama’s essential drawback: it’s his ideas that are sinking him. Two more decades in the Senate wouldn’t help Obama formulate wiser opinions on security, taxes, or the overwhelming desire to have Washington run everything. In fact, he’d just reinforce bad habits.
As for man who’s comically second in command, Joe Biden is qualified, if spending the vast majority of his adult life as an elected representative counts. And yet most Americans wouldn’t feel comfortable having him be in charge of an Elks Club raffle.

Norman Blitzer:
We win; you lose.
What about that concept do you not understand?
technopeasant on November 25, 2009 at 2:05 AM
For one who believes this, how does this sit with the very same author claiming:
If being the same war that Bush “destroyed Iraq’s infrastructure and very slowly rebuilt anything” then what is different about this and wars past? There is so much confusion in that claim with your subsequent posts that it even becomes vague as to what you are clearly confused about. History? This war?
In fear of completely missing your point about the seemingly wild claim, ellaboration would help. Then again, so would consistency and even a modest understanding of history and warfare.

The fact that almost 2/3 of Americans are against Obamacare—–not to worry, or concern yourself with, this Katie Couric person has poems AND, AND, AND—Mrs. Obama made a splash with her get-up. The worst thing any commander can ever do is to be indecisive, the second worst is to compromise. The POSIC has done both. When he has people in harm’s way a real commander makes a decision(time will tell whether it was right or wrong),and follows through with fortitude and purpose.
Three months ago,Mcchrystal asked for 40,000,a real leader would have 80,000 there by now, even if he had to reinstitute the draft.64,000 Americans are in jeopardy,to hell with healthcare, the economy, cap and tax.Give our heroes what they need to complete their mission, and save as many Amrican lives as possible.

OldEnglish on November 25, 2009 at 8:55 AM
Yeah, and Palin’s expert opinion on military strategy comes from…?
Dave Rywall on November 25, 2009 at 8:58 AM
J_Crater on November 25, 2009 at 9:10 AM
Do you actually pay attention to what she says? Or are you just content with making stuff up? Her entire opinion is that Obama should listen to the advice of experts… the experts he hired and tasked with making recommendations. Palin is not putting forth an ‘expert opinion on military strategy.’ Rather, she is drawing upon her executive/management experience that shows by stating that Obama should be listening to the experts, not his base.
BPD on November 25, 2009 at 9:13 AM
Palin, or Obama’s replacement in 2012 whomever that will be, doesn’t need to be a tactician. The president, however, needs to have a STRATEGY in place with a political philosophy to undergird it. This is what is lacking with Obambi, there’s no strategy or philosophy involved with him. His strategy politically is just to win by buying votes from the moochers. That doesn’t work with fundamentalist Muslims who don’t want anything from you but your dead body.
Mojave Mark on November 25, 2009 at 9:16 AM
Yeah, it was a good post (I saw her interview) until the videoed speech by Bo. Was that supposed to mean he cares, AP? He’s the immutable bait and switch president. Don’t listen to a thing he says, because he doesn’t mean what’s coming out of his mouth. Better to see what he does. Remember what your mom told you…Actions speak louder than words. The kids are dying over there while he procrastinates. You can bet his final decision will come with conditions and will be weak. He can’t help being what he is.
Nalea on November 25, 2009 at 9:18 AM

Okay, how about this…Palin was commander of the Alaskan National Guard…she does have infinitely more experience then Obama.
She also, as Gov., worked closely with the military which had the largest most sophisticated defense strike capability in the U.S.
And Obama came into office with…voting present, trying to shake hands/salute/shake hands/salute whatever you are supposed to do, he wasn’t sure….
And Obama had what experience? Voting “No, or present” is not military experience, sorry to inform you.

I’ve seen a bunch of events recently, most were even featured at HotAir, where Obama did pay respect to the military, past and present. As for equipping and providing strategy, he has been working on one behind the scenes for months. I love Palin and have been the lone supporter of hers since last year among my friends who think she’s a dumb hick, but this rhetoric is really uncalled for. Maybe a month or 2 ago, before he gave a few speeches on his appreciation of the military, and before he even talked about presenting a strategy for Afghanistan. But not now.

The PDB GWB received in August 2001 was composed at his request to be given round-up of info on Al Qaeda (he already had ordered a plan be drawn up to address and it was ready—on September 10–he did not have enough time to implement). The PDB he received was composed of information going back to 1998 and had mostly information given to the then president.
The title of that PDB? The 1998 PDB?
“Bin Laden preparing to hijack U.S. aircraft and other attacks.”

Here is the problem with what you are saying. Obama will talk, and say what his focus groups tell him he needs to say, but what does he actually do? They usually seem to be different things.
He says he’s concerned about the deficit because the polls tell him it is becoming a political problem for him, but he is still throwing away trillions on everything except national defense.
Palin is right, we need actions to back up the empty rhetoric.
You give Obama’s words more meaning than he does.

Ha Ha! Same here. I’ve seen it post here before, and I wondered if it was trying to identify itself as “Donner & Blitzen” and just didn’t know how to spell it. Must be embarassing to be so clueless. I’ve seen really good trolls here at hotair, but this one is just pathetic.

I second that emotion.
I renamed him Captain Jerkoff a few days ago, because it’s pointless to argue with that thing.

As for what Obama has done regarding Hasan…I woke up this morning thinking about this weird juxtaposition of Obama speaking at Ft. Hood against Sarah Palin’s tart remarks on his lack of leadership and real consideration of the troops.
What has Obama done on the subject of Hasan?
More Evidence Obama Administration Shut Down Connecting Hasan Dots
Then the attack occurred and on the very day he prefaces remarks on it, knowing some troops had been shot dead, with a shout out (not even properly acknowledging the fellow he was felicitating) and joviality before assuming a solemn voice and face.
Then he eventually attends the site of the massacre where he reads a speech that is now cited as evidence he really cares about these troops.
But then we’re not done. Congress wants to look into why Hasan was not caught as a potential murderer since the public record is positively brimming with evidence of red flags aplenty.
What has Obama done on that? He’s blocking their investigation and even Susan freaking Collins is saying there is something troubling about the way the administration is handling it.

As for those who say to supporters that Palin can be wrong and so on, please note that most of us saw the actual interview where she made her remarks. We cited it favorably and heard the context and content before media interpretation twisting it out of shape.

My favorite Palin line comes from Bill O’s interview with her last week:
“He’s bowing to world leaders that I think any other president… I mean that literally.”
