Quotes of the day
posted at 10:45 pm on November 24, 2009 by Allahpundit
“‘There’s been a lack of acknowledgement by our president in understanding what it is that the American military provides in terms of, obviously, the safety, the security of our country,’ Palin said during an interview with Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren. ‘I want him to acknowledge the sacrifices that these individual men and women — our sons, our daughters, our moms, our dads, our brothers and sisters — are providing this country to keep us safe.’
“‘They’re making sacrifices,’ said Palin, who visited the Army base at Fort Bragg on Monday as part of her ongoing book tour. ‘They’re putting so much on hold right now so that the homeland can be safe and they can fight for democratic ideals around our world. I want to see more acknowledgment and more respect given to them.’
“Asked specifically what she’d like to see more of from Obama, Palin said, ‘I want to see them equipped. I want to see them given everything that they need, including strategies — a surge strategy in Afghanistan, for one — so that they know that they’re there for victory, they’re not there just biding their time as lives are being lost.’”

TRUE STORY!! My Mom bought Sarah’s book today at our local Walmart. She was minding her own business in the checkout line when the female cashier and another female employee decided to start commenting about Sarah Palin. One said they didn’t like Sarah Palin and were just casually talking about her all the while my Mom is standing there. It was rude. So finally the cashier said, “I think she needs to stay home and take care of her kids.” Mom finally and sternly said, “The man being the breadwinner is a thing of the past because it’s not necessarily true.” I mean there was a FEMALE cashier and another FEMALE employee standing there saying a woman’s place is in the home. We live in a big Lib area (although rural) and these fools are simply spewing talking points. They don’t even understand the hypocrisy of their own words.

Yeah, guerilla war is a new thing. Please explain that to General Leonard Wood or General Victor Krulak. The principles of warfare never change. Read up on SunTzu and get a clue yourselve. First, one must identify the type of war and enemy one is fighting. Bush didn’t do that, and we a paying a stiff price for it. At least to his credit, he knew we are at war. Unlike Ozero and his civil trials for unlawful combatants.

She also has an innate desire to do what’s right for the country, honestly and directly. She might need to bone up on a few issues, but she still has two years before any kind of Presidential campaign, and she can be a “kingmaker” in the 2010 elections. She still has LOTS of time to persuade independent voters to give her a second look.
Selling 700,000 books in one week does give her a certain financial independence, and a freedom of action she didn’t enjoy while trying to defend countless frivolous lawsuits as Governor of Alaska.

As Governor of Alaska, Palin was in charge of America’s front line of defense, which consists of multiple military units) against Russian incursion (which are frequent and plentiful).
In addition, Conservative “nitwits” like Bush 43 kept us safe for 7 years while we’ve had 2 jihadist attacks on American soil since Comrade Urkel took power.

Riiight…speechifying from the One (only after a visit to Camp David instead of to the wounded and families of the murdered) is exactly the kind of acknowledgment and support to which Palin is referring. A speech read from the teleprompter written by someone else is a real morale booster for our troops. It sure makes up for being told they’re risking their lives in a war he doesn’t plan on winning. Keep up the good work proving that silly Palin wrong. //s

If you wish to thank God that Obama gives diversity speeches in the wake of terrorist attacks, feel free. As mentioned, above, war does not change. Political correctness simply changes the perspective of what war is and the troops pay for it. If this Administration stays the course with it’s “Barney the Dinosaur” diplomacy, we will too.

As one of the other commenters likes to say, “true dat, playa!”
Ever since Truman screwed the pooch in Korea — no doubt partly inspired by some big-time FDR giveaways to the Russkies at the end of WWII — we seem to have forgotten how to win wars.
JFK couldn’t hack it, LBJ couldn’t. Hell, Nixon finally had to go the bug-out route when Congress wimped out. Bush 41 dropped the ball in Desert Storm, and 43 was too timid when he went into Afghanistan and Iraq.
What we need is a President who does their best to avoid war, but who goes balls-to-the-war when it’s unavoidable.
Norman Blitzer-style gutlessness kills our troops. A real President worries about his own people first, and if it takes stomping the other side to win, lets the military do the job it knows how to do.
MrScribbler on November 25, 2009 at 12:08 AM
What hasn’t worked in eight years? Bush’s PC warfare? No duh. Both Bush’s and Ozero’s refusal to identify the enemy? No duh. Ozero’s refusal to acknowledge that we are at war? “Overseas Contingency Operations,” he calls two ongoing campaigns that are both part of a larger war that you and he refuse to acknowledge.
George Patton had well known views on how to win wars. But, what did he know compared to the likes of you.
Kalapana on November 25, 2009 at 12:08 AM
Oh yes it has. It’s not like Japan and Germany 1940s, where civilians and the government were united in belief.

Clyde5445 on November 25, 2009 at 12:09 AM
Sure it has.
Iraq is pretty much conquered now, especially after the surge.
Our soldiers there are so bored, they take tango lessons to fill the time…
Problem is, a lot of the jihadis scrambled over to Afghanistan and ramped the war back up there.
Our military are the best in the world–they can do this if given the right tools, the right ROE and the goal of victory which is also what SarahCuda is saying.

Go debate the tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens who were killed for a lie.

The Russians are still our major pain in the butt today.
Best to take care of them in 1945 while they were tired.

And we were better armed and better fed and better clothed. satlingrade was ruble so was Moscow among others. the soviet union was on its last legs and only able to stand from our support of shippments form the USA and England. yet the liberal FDR screwed that victory also
Liberals always screw up victories. Its a defect in thier DNA I think

Have you read “The Village” by Bing West? Just about the best book written on COIN in Vietnam. Also check out both Victor Krulak’s and Lewis Walt’s books, if you haven’t already done so.

In one thread, you continue to betray your ignorance of history.
Patton wanted to fight the commies, but not with the Nazis. He hated the Nazis. He may have thought of getting the Germans to fight with Americans, but not the Nazis.
Remember that Patton was very disturbed by what he encountered in the liberated death camps.
Sapwolf on November 25, 2009 at 12:34 AM
Yes they did. Those POW camps would not have been liberated when they were without the Filipino guerillas. When MacArthur gave his famous “I have returned” speech, he was directly addressing the Filipino Guerillas when he said now is the time to strike.

It was the job of the chain of military command to deal with Hasan. Obama is the CIC, but he wouldn’t have known about one crazy soldier in Texas.
Rather than just being informed of a possible terrorist attack at a major airport, GW needed to know the exact time and place of the event too to do anything.
Go BLOW yourself, dumbass.

Too bad HotAir doesn’t allow signature phrases at the end of posts.
Given how all of yours seem to end, it would save you a lot of time.

El Presidente gave a terrible speech at Ft. Hood…Pres Bush’s speech for those lost at VTech was a thousand times better.

I’m waiting for your brillant reply to the quote I provided from Clausewitz. Please tell me how what the old Prussian wrote nearly two hundred years ago has changed.
