Quotes of the day

posted at 10:45 pm on November 24, 2009 by Allahpundit

“‘There’s been a lack of acknowledgement by our president in understanding what it is that the American military provides in terms of, obviously, the safety, the security of our country,’ Palin said during an interview with Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren. ‘I want him to acknowledge the sacrifices that these individual men and women — our sons, our daughters, our moms, our dads, our brothers and sisters — are providing this country to keep us safe.’

“‘They’re making sacrifices,’ said Palin, who visited the Army base at Fort Bragg on Monday as part of her ongoing book tour. ‘They’re putting so much on hold right now so that the homeland can be safe and they can fight for democratic ideals around our world. I want to see more acknowledgment and more respect given to them.’

“Asked specifically what she’d like to see more of from Obama, Palin said, ‘I want to see them equipped. I want to see them given everything that they need, including strategies — a surge strategy in Afghanistan, for one — so that they know that they’re there for victory, they’re not there just biding their time as lives are being lost.’”

Sarah was simply on FIYAH last night with Greta when she was saying this. The tone in her voice was one of, well, exasperation.

By the way, I hate untitled Politico links! Ugh!

SouthernGent on November 24, 2009 at 10:51 PM

I’m not a big McCain fan but he was on Greta too and did say Sarah has been treated poorly. I wish he would stick up for her more.
I’m glad she is out there sticking up for the troops!

Brat4life on November 24, 2009 at 10:51 PM

They left out the best part, IMO, when she said she’d like to see him stop using them for PR purposes, citing the “You guys are a good photo op” incident. Leave it to the libs to completely ignore the substance of what she’s saying, tho. Paying visits to military bases because it’s politically expedient to do so is not showing acknowledgment or respect. Treating them with reverence and honor, listening to the people on the ground and giving them what they need to win — that’s respect.

Gov. Palin has a horse in this race. She has way more moral authority to speak on this subject than most people IMO.

NoLeftTurn on November 24, 2009 at 10:52 PM

haha you have to say that moderates are welcome in the party. A guy like Tom Ridge is a welcomed republican. He is more moderate socially but 90% of what he says I agree with. I GUARANTEE you that she wouldnt want specter in the party.

ousoonerfan15 on November 24, 2009 at 10:54 PM

The interview that aired last night with Greta was terrific from start to finish. On the attitude toward the troops Palin specifically mentioned the quips about them making a good photo op and tossing off how telling they’d get a raise was an applause line.

Yes, I know some people think Obama is entitled to joke about the troops in that fashion. Others (most, I dare say) find it striking an off-key note, to say the least.

Congress Never Ceases to Amaze
Really? A tax on national defense? I hear liberal Congressional proposals and I, like most Americans, wonder if they’re serious. We’re going to put a price tag on security?

With Congress and President Obama spending money on everything at breakneck speed, it’s interesting that they are only now getting nervous about spending – but only when it comes to providing the necessary funds to complete our mission in Afghanistan. They don’t need a new “war tax” to fund a strategy for victory in the war zone. They simply need to prioritize our money appropriately.

I find it telling that the Pelosi-Reid Congress is only cost-conscious when it comes to our national defense. Scary. Nonsensical. Unacceptable.

DaveS on November 24, 2009 at 11:15 PM

Folks,
Palin has the base, but a leader must transcend one political view and establish respect amongst their peers. Without out that they are but a loud voice that can become a static noise. She has to pull back and polish the edges, go past the talking points and grab the majority. This comes not from bending or molding to the masses but from articulately defining ones goals. Of all the interviews and navigating through the gotcha questions she still has not driven the stake in why she is the one we should trust. She makes us cheer, buy bumper stickers and buy books, but the path she follows is of a Beck. A light at the end of the tunnel for some but most fear she is a only train coming.

Sarah Palin said this without cue cards or a teleprompter. She has common sense, conviction, and cares deeply about our military.

Obama could care less. It’s as if he was dragged there by force to give that speech. The day of the Ft. Hood shooting, he gave shout outs for two minutes. What a disgrace. Embarrassing.
Today he blames President Bush for Afghanistan. This ass has the audacity to blame Bush when for the past several months he didn’t even consider Gen. McChrystal’s request nor talk with him. He considered taking away the health insurance of our troops and veterans early this year. He cut military funding.
President Bush has his faults, but no one should have the audacity to say he dithered nor didn’t care for our troops.
Obama, you’re a disgrace.

you must have not been around during Reagan. He had his base then educated others to his views. He made them come to him because of his leadership skills. Leaders do not bow and change their postion papers to win voters. They educate the voters to why they are right. why their vision is the one we should follow. They do not say one thing in red states, one in blue states and another in purple states. They say the same message in all states and the voters follow. and when leaders like that win they have a MANADTE for change that last longer then 6 months. They have a mandate that lasts till the next election.

unseen on November 24, 2009 at 11:20 PM

Somehow it seems to me that a man spending a few brief minutes reading someone else’s words from a teleprompter is not a sufficient acknowledgement. It surely does not make up for the time he said our armed forces were “just air raiding villages and killing civilians,” a thing he’d said was the consequence of not having enough troops in Afghanistan, which, in turn, is the situation he’d put them in for unforgivably long.

That teleprompter gives a good speech, huh? Zero didn’t personally believe the words he read, he simply jumped at the chance to pander to an audience riveted by the atrocity at Fort Hood — that’s all it was to him.

Allahpundit thought he was being so sly when juxtaposing the Palin quote against that Zero reading. Allahpundit should examine the message and the words Palin used – and he pull-quoted – before thinking he got in a zinger. Palin said that she wanted ‘to see more acknowledgment and more respect given’, not just some blue moon pandering in a scripted perfunctory speech. Zero has left the troops out to dry since taking the reins as CIF, and it’s gotten so obvious that our closest allies are now deriding him for it. Palin gets it — she has skin in the game — while the Precident and Congress, sadly, do not.

An example of Palin’s leadership skills in action.

The second or third signing of her book had some problems. Either she left before everyone that was suppoose to get signed were signed or some lefty’s tried to stage an incident. She did not stop to question who was at fault. She simply made changes. She lowered the amount of wristbands handed out to 500 from 1000. She came early and left late and signed everyone in line. Not only the 500 wristbands. the next stop she upped it to 750 wristbands. And she still came early and left late. end result no more bad press. Lefty’s unable to make a scene.

She say a problem, adjusted to the new information, made a new plan and then got to exceed expectations for her supporters.

that is Leadership and command of the sitution. and yet for some reason no one is reporting on it. GO figure.

Now take what she did on the book tour and imagine if Obama would have done that in Afganistain. See a problem, get the information, change tactics, implement a new plan and follow thru with the new plan, adjust the plan to conditions on the ground. And fire for effect.

The quote of the day for me was Sarah Palin saying in her interview with Greta today that certain people who engage in over the top conspiracy theories about whether or not Trig really is her son are nothing more than insecure lonely people looking for attention.

Hellrider on November 24, 2009 at 11:14 PM
Saw that…. I was wondering if she really wanted to say “Hey Andrew Sullivan.. get bent and stay bent.”

BPD on November 24, 2009 at 11:29 PM

I saw that too. She has him pegged.

“Just in the past four weeks the president has met with troops on bases in Jacksonville, Alaska and South Korea and the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M,” Woodhouse said.

BS. He landed on the airstrip at Elmendorf AFB, walked to to the top of the stairs and said a few words. He did NOT meet with the troops. He is patently afraid of the troops. He can’t even give a straight answer to their commanders, and he knows they loathe him anyway.

Sarah, on the other hand, is very welcome any time she gets near the military. Wonder why?

tcn on November 24, 2009 at 11:36 PM

Stop and think for a minute when the last time was that Obama gave a real interview where he showed any concern for the military. Sure he answers questions but that is not the same as Palin speaking from the heart. No one is more connected to the military than a Mom with a serving son/daughter. Obama is a lot like Clinton in that the military represents a group of voters that he will never win over. Semper Fi Sarah!

inspectorudy on November 24, 2009 at 11:37 PM

War is quite simple.
step 1 = arrive to kill the enemy
step 2 = kill the enemy
step 3 = win by killing the enemy
step 4 = maintain the peace by killing the enemy

Simple.

Don’t make the simple complex Obambi.

Obama still hasn’t looked the American people in the eye and told them what he wants to do and invest his political capital into the outcome the way Bush did. That means that he is going to pull out. He will kill off our best young people one by one before declaring defeat.

I appreciate your point. And yes I was around during Reagan. My point witch coincidently follows your logic is: she needs to refine herself. Reagan was a master at saying the obvious. The masses understood him, and as few of us remember he had huge critics. I have seen her in person on several rallies during last years campaign and the crowds were unbelievably enthusiastic about her. But and it’s a big but. In order to cross that hump she has to be able to spar with the best of them. She has 3 years. And we all shall judge but I want someone who will walk into the lions den and not back down. The dream combo is a Reagan-chenny mutt. I hope she’s got it.

If he does that he will not run for reelection. he will lose in a landslide. Mitt? where is Mitt? did he die?

Palin is such an incredible straight shooter, a rarity in politics, something we haven’t seen much of since Reagan.

docdave on November 24, 2009 at 11:41 PM

“Asked specifically what she’d like to see more of from Obama, Palin said, ‘I want to see them equipped. I want to see them given everything that they need, including strategies — a surge strategy in Afghanistan, for one — so that they know that they’re there for victory, they’re not there just biding their time as lives are being lost.’”

If this doesn’t prove to you guys she’s an idiot, you’re just as stupid as she is. These were the same charges made against the Bush administration. President Obama is in charge sister, so keep your big yap shut!

THE ONLY MEMBER OF THE DYING GOP THAT HASN’T GONE WOBBLY!!!!!

Former Governor Sarah Heath Palin.

THAT is why they hate her!!!

Reminds me of another lady (of IRON) once ridiculed as just a “housewife”.

Understood. I have never seen her backdown unless McCain’s campaign told her to SDASTFU. even then she fought them to get her message out in everyway she could. but I understand your nervousness. That is what debates and campaigns are for. until then she is leading while all others are playing pattycake with Obama and the dems

More annoying than Obama’s head turning left then right then left then right from teleprompter to teleprompter is constant use of pairs of contrasting items. You find this in every speech. AGH!

Difference is, Norman, Zero’s got the Congress. Dithering for nearly 12 months on a plan handed to him by the previous administration and signed off on last spring — that’s some kind of a’take charge guy’ you have there. Zero is a blithering idiot when it comes to policies of any kind and this one issue, among many, points it out quite well.

you must have not been around during Reagan.

Thanks Unseen. Good post. That is what Sarah is, a rock of a vision that moderates are welcome to embrace.
