Quotes of the day

posted at 10:37 pm on November 23, 2009 by Allahpundit

“Asked why she is a better candidate than her Republican primary opponent Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Calif.), Fiorina said that a woman stands a better chance of defeating Boxer.

“‘With all due respect and deep affection for white men, I am married to one,’ Fiorina said at a breakfast at Americans for Tax Reform. ‘But [Barbara Boxer] knows how to beat them in California, she has done it over and over and over again.’”

***
“But it’s certainly not dirty pool for Fiorina to note the conventional wisdom, that for some women voters, or for some moderates, a female candidate is more appealing. Maybe it shouldn’t be that way, but it does, indeed, seem to be that way. (If you buy the conventional wisdom — which you don’t have to. But I don’t see the sin in noting that conventional wisdom.)

“And let me note: When Sarah Palin was attracting large swaths of previously-Obama-leaning women, no one objected and jumped up and down shouting ‘It’s not right that women are now inclined to vote Republican just because Sarah Palin is a woman! I renounce these votes!’

“If I remember right: We were all more than eager to accept those votes, even if they were cast for supposedly-bad reasons. In fact, I remember being positively giddy about that myself.”

***
“Now look just at Republicans: Republican men deem Palin ‘qualified’ by a margin of 60-38. But Republican women? Not even half think she is qualified: only 49%. 50% of Republican women say Palin is unqualified for the job.

“If you like Palin – well go ahead. It’s a free country. But quit saying that ‘the people’ love Sarah Palin.

“They don’t. Actually, they quite dislike her. The longer they know her, the more they dislike her. And even more than they dislike her, they do not respect her. That reaction of dislike and disrespect is most concentrated among American women.

“Sarah’s constituency is a relatively small cohort of conservative men. I offended a lot of these people last week by suggesting that there was some sexual dynamic at work in the enthusiasm for the politician whom Rush Limbaugh used to describe as ‘Governor Babe.’ So let’s put it this way: Whatever impulse it is that so excites Palin supporters, it is not shared by their wives.”

Not true. The more Palin defines herself, the more people like her.

Frum must not see how Sarah’s surged in Iowa which proves his overall assertions in error. And as I mentioned last night Sarah Palin is on par or ahead of Obama in popularity. Or I misunderstood Rasmusson.

Sharr on November 23, 2009 at 10:42 PM

Ok, where is the thread about Sarah Palin on Greta?
I’m watching her on On the Record and she is (Palin) on fire!

Holy crap, she is knocking every question out of the park.
It’s probably because she and Greta like each other so Sarah feels more comfortable, but holy God Sarah is ON in this interview.

When Greta was asking her about the troop, Afganistan etc, Sarah really DID look like an animal ready to strike.
Wow.

B Man on November 23, 2009 at 10:42 PM

It’s conservative men who built this country and it’s conservative men who protect it. If conservative men are the cohort that view Sarah Palin favorably then all of the rest of you who don’t agree with us just STFD and STFU. Until you can build and defend a country then your opinion doesn’t matter.

How’s that for a poll.

ted c on November 23, 2009 at 10:42 PM

Last I heard, Palin’s approval rating was rising. It wasn’t an all male crowd at those book signings . . .

She apparently doesn’t put out enough. This guy’s got a serious bug up his rear about Palin. And as for only men liking Palin, has he seen who’s showing up for her book tour? I see lots of women, and they all seem to adore her.

huckleberryfriend on November 23, 2009 at 10:44 PM

It’s funny: you can look at the sidebar at Frum’s site, and it’s one anti-Palin item after another, several of them disingenuous. The guy’s obsessed.

Men like Sarah because she hunts, she fishes, she butchers moose, she loves guns, she loves the military, she rides “snowmachines” with her husband and kids. She IS a man for all practical purposes. Men love Sarah because she’s ONE OF THEM!!!

Emily M. on November 23, 2009 at 10:45 PM

I think Palin had a great interview with ORiley and with Greta. I think once Palin gets out there and lets people see who she really is, she will make a difference.

Women for the most part have always been catty towards other women. I’m really not surprised more men like Palin then women. I really like Palin so I guess I am one of the 49%

Brat4life on November 23, 2009 at 10:45 PM

When you have states filled with whiney, wishy-washy liberal girly men, and angry liberal broads, what would you expect?
California? When was the last male senator from California?

Washington state? Two pathetic liberal broads Murray and Cantwell.

I really am surprised that Oregon still has male senators.

Two decades ago, I lived in Portland. Don’t think I could do that today.

I must say that Carly Fiorina was quite impressive on CNN Sunday with John King. She will clean Boxer’s clock if Boxer dares to debate her (assuming Fiorina’s the nominee). I’ve not seen DeVore on TV, but Fiorina is a commanding presence. My heart is with Jim DeMint who has endorsed DeVore, but I’d be happy with Fiorina…sue me?

The lower Obama goes in the polls, and the more at the same time that the big media tries to cover/alibi for him, the less effective not only that is with the general public, but the less effective their attacks on Palin are. The moderate swing voters who were inclined to like Obama 6-12 months ago and support what he said he was going to do also believed what the media were saying both about him and about Palin. Now those same swing voters are becomming more inclined to disbelieve what the media is saying about both Barack and his programs, and at the same time take a more jaundiced view of their shrillness in attacking Sarah.

That doesn’t mean she’s made the sale yet with the voters she’ll need if she wants to run for president in 2012, just that those same voters who went with Obama a year ago are more willing to listen to what she’s saying now than they were then, or even as late as the middle of this past summer. So if she can make the sale she can continue to move her poll numbers up, no matter what David Frum has to say.

David Frum is an idiot, his book was delusional and stupid. He’s is just jealous of Sarah as he thought he was the savior of the Republican party.

It’s not just men who love Sarah. Look at those crowds, much of them women.

Jvette on November 23, 2009 at 10:54 PM

I’m a 26 year old woman of Cuban origin and a Palinista. The left and RINOs are pushing forth a narrative that the left has the monopoly on women, and women hate Palin. Both false.

According to Mark Steyn, when he went to a Palin rally, he was surrounded by women with strollers.
I see women of all races, sizes, and ages waiting to get their book signed by Palin.

So either Frum doesn’t know what a woman looks like or he is obsessed with getting traffic to his junk of a website. I think it’s the former.

Yes, the Cuda’s interview with Greta was very strong.

for a self-important talking head whose ego and narcissism are blown sky high, her not knowing who he was or caring was great…

besides, even though I know who he is, is he really important? what has he done? written columns, a book, talk like a RINO and actually praise Obama on TV…

he’s not representative of the conservative movement… another pretender…

My wife and I camped out Friday night for the book tour signing in Washinton, Pa. Probably 5-1 women to men. I don’t think those women spending 17 hours out in the cold dislike her. Just say’n.
