Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on November 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
“Democrats would be foolish to write off her visceral power.
“As Judith Doctor, a 69-year-old spiritual therapist, told The Washington Post’s Jason Horowitz at Palin’s book signing in Grand Rapids, Mich., ‘She’s alive inside, and that radiates energy, and people who are not psychologically alive inside are fascinated by that.’…
“[Obama] struggles to transcend identity politics while she wallows in them. As he builds an emotional moat around himself, she exuberantly pushes whatever she has, warts and all — the good looks, the tabloid-perfect family, the Alaska quirkiness, the kids with the weird names.
“Just like the disastrous and anti-intellectual W., this Visceral One never doubts herself. The Cerebral One welcomes doubt.”
***
“Palin — and there’s just no way to deny this — is a supremely gifted politician. She has staked out, as her own personal political turf, the entire landscape of incoherent white American resentment. In this area she leaves even Rush Limbaugh in the dust…
“Most normal people cannot connect on an emotional level with Rush’s meanderings on how Harry Reid is buying off Mary Landrieu with pork in the health care bill. They can, however, connect with stories about how top McCain strategist and Karl Rove acolyte Steve Schmidt told poor Sarah to shut her pie-hole on election day, or how her supposed allies in the McCain campaign stabbed her in the back by leaking gossip about her to reporters, how Schmidt used the word ‘f**k’ in front of her daughter, or even with the strange tales about Schmidt ordering Sarah to consult with a nutritionist to improve her campaign endurance when she herself knew she just needed to get out in the fresh air and run (If there’s one thing Sarah Palin knows, it’s herself!)…
“She is the country’s first WWE politician — a cartoon combatant who inspires stadiums full of frustrated middle American followers who will cheer for her against whichever villain they trot out, be it Newsweek, Barack Obama, Katie Couric, Steve Schmidt, the Mad Russian, Randy Orton or whoever. Her followers will not know that she is the perfect patsy for our system, designed as it is to channel popular anger in any direction but a useful one, and to keep the public tied up endlessly in pointless media melees over meaningless nonsense (melees of the sort that develop organically around Palin everywhere she goes). Like George W. Bush, even Palin herself doesn’t know this, another reason she’s such a perfect political tool.”
***
“By attacking the former governor of a state smaller by population than Westchester County, a woman whose chances of being the next president are about the same as Nancy Pelosi’s, Democrats aren’t wasting their time at all. They are distracting conservatives and changing the subject…
“Last week, Obama looked exceptionally weak, naive and disingenuous, even for him: He got a knee in the face when he bowed to China; he admitted his promise to close Gitmo by January was the bloviation conservatives have always said it was; his attorney general invited terrorists to bring their Cirque du Jihad to New York so they can put the US national security apparatus on trial (and added that Obama wasn’t even part of the decision); the claims about stimulus-provided jobs turned out to involve lots of fictitious work in nonexistent congressional districts; a second Democratic senator threatened to help filibuster the health bill; and Afghanistan and Iran grew more dire as each hour brought the president inching ever closer to thinking about meeting to discuss the possibility of suggesting the next half-hearted response.
“So what preoccupied the nation? Bill Belichick’s 4th and two call. And the book tour of an unemployed former governor of a very small state…
“Republicans know all of this deep down, but we keep talking up her candidacy, looking for glimmers of hope in the polls, giving her attention and even sending her money when we should be refusing to take the bait. We never took Andrew Sullivan seriously before; why get aggravated by him now?”

How would she be doing that? What excuse for the media will you be making in 2 months, that the media was distracted by hockey night in Canada?

On what platform. “Redemption”? Feeling “alive inside”? Making us “laugh” and “have hope for America”?

well Palin is making progress. One of the people said she was smart. That is way ahead of last weeks “she is a joke” comment. they still do not respect her power but they are starting to understand it. Liz disappointed me. she had a golden oppurtunity to slam the liberals and she chose to downplay Palin? disgusting. Lost alot of repect for Liz in that 10sec.

I used to respect George Will; not so much any more. He’s becoming more and more like Pat Buchanan (another one I used to respect a lot) — less and less relevant, but still adored by the lame-stream media because they can count on him to snipe at Conservatives that don’t meet his ‘moderate’ standards.
Thank God for Sarah Palin.

BREAKING NEWS
George Will is a D.C. Cocktail party bow-tie elitist plain and simple.
Don’t know the other white haired guy…a nothingburger.
Robert Reich mocking something little is just a tad ironic for the Munchkin that wanted to unplug Granny in that speech in California.
And Liz Cheney was right but with Judas in the White House the war is going to be a total waste.
MMMMM, But Mary how long exactly was Bush 43 in the White House and we didn’t win in Afghanistan? MMM, let’s see October 2001 thru mid January 2009…….MMMM, that means that Bush couldn’t win the war in 7 years? How long should it take the U.S. to “win” a war in a country that’s really just a joke militarily?
Palin? probably not going to run in 2012 but she’s the only sign of hope we have in an otherwise doomed GOP.

The nerds speak out against the star jock and find her wanting. News at 11. since when did we start looking up to nerds for our leaders? Nerds were nerds in high school. they were the ones we made fun of. they were ridiculed because they had no idea what the real world was and somehow from high scholl to adulthoood the nerd has been raised on high to be our opionion makers and political leaders? Why? We did not follow the nerds in grade school, in high school or college. Yet the nerds think they deserved to be ;listened too now? they were wrong then and they are worng now. A nerd is a nerd. Palin is the leader we respected in school, obama was the nerd we laughed at.

Hey Dowd, count me resentful! Resentful that the principled Dems who couldn’t vote for a public option or the principled Catholics and Dems that couldn’t vote for the bill if public funded abortion was in there…. did!
That the Pinnochio Presidente has made a business out of lying to the people and tearing this country and her allies to pieces, that the most transparent and ethical adminstration and congress is guilty of deceit and theft that would land a taxpaying businessman in a cell!
I’m resentful as hell and I’m Goin Rogue with Sarah to try to take my country back peacefully and if that doesn’t work out…. well we shall see!

I give them some slack because i understand how the game is played and i hate the game more than the pklayers but the above 10sec of Liz just reinforces that our answers to our problems is not in the elite circles. they are drawing the wagons in and if we want to have impact we must also draw in ours. Don’t really know why anyone would read these articles or why they would be part of a QOTD. None of them are a political analysis nor a even a opinion piece. Crazed, ‘tin-foil-hat’, Kos-Kid leftists excoriate a beauty queen for espousing the same views as the president on gay ‘marriage’ and the MSM joins in, why?
Crazed, ‘tin-foil-hat’, Kos-Kid leftists, we now learn, are perfectly willing to destroy the world’s economy “by any means necessary” with ruinous ‘cures’ for bogus ‘global warming’ and the MSM joins in, why?
Crazed, ‘tin-foil-hat’, Kos-Kid leftists will “pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship” to support the Western world’s most implacable foe, the Islamo-fascists, and the MSM joins in, why?
Crazed, ‘tin-foil-hat’, Kos-Kid leftists will ignore even the most egregious misogynist behavior, just so long as the perpetrator is pro-abortion, and the MSM joins in, why?
Crazed, ‘tin-foil-hat’, Kos-Kid leftists think President Obama is brilliant, even though they know he once believed there were more than 50 states – and – they think Sarah Palin stupid because they have made everyone believe she thinks Russia is visible from her window, even though they know she never said or believed that…and the MSM joins in, why?
Get those undecided, independent voters who broke for the president in the last election to understand ‘why’ and you’ll go a long way toward getting Sarah Palin or whoever is the 2012 Republican presidential nominee elected.

Sarah Palin embodies the experiences, troubles, hopes and aspirations of the average American who loves her family and country. Some people, who consider themselves a cut above the rest of us, think it’s very smart to attack Sarah and point out how average she is.
I’m curious as to why those who attack her consider themselves smart. Do they think the average American is self loathing?

When you stop and think about it, Hope and Change are about as much fluff as cotton candy. The One never had a plan or a vision for our country. He was a cotton candy merchant. Also, I am perplexed by the notion that Sarah Palin is distracting the MSM so that they are not noticing the daily gaffs the One is making. Who thought that one up? Did anyone really think that the MSM would cover the daily gaffs? They are blind to his mistakes and prop him up like a scarecrow ina wind storm.

Those who write off Sarah Palin and presume 1 she is not going to run in 2012 and 2 that were she to do so have “no chance at winning” are likely to find themselves eating crow.
Just saying, and this is ONLY MYSELF, Sarah Palin has been touched by providence you dismiss her as a person and a politician at your own peril.
And oh yes if we’re to believe Rassmusan she’s currently more on par or slightly more popular then Dr Utopia and his ever trending down numbers. Don’t go telling me Sarah Palin has no chance to become President, she’s more likely to take the White House then Pelosi whom I am sure she’s also more popular then.
Sharr on November 22, 2009 at 11:30 PM
rudy nails it.
Even when the MSM wasn’t distracted and simply basked in the aura of the One, they failed to see his misgivings and failed promises.
Now that his ego has landed (at least his polls have), a few are taking a closer look. The White House would probably appreciate a distraction to draw attention away from the train wreck they’re presiding over.

As her books fly off the shelves, and more and more Americans get an uncensored view into her life’s story, ideology, and policies, the media is being exposed as the political hacks that they are.

The projection by Obama people is classic and funny.
I was watching a video of her at some book store and she was up at the top of the stairs and there were , from what the video showed a few hundred people, and I just started thinking if 1 person had a wrong idea…
That woman needs security. Now. The more successful her book is the more the lefties heads will explode.
It sometimes feels like we’re living in the 60′s again.
Ferraro was on Greta and she mentioned how in Sarah’s book, she gives some liberal policies some praise.
Ferraro said it was a bad thing for conservatives to read that. I don’t think so.
Greta also said that was a good thing to broaden her appeal.
It would be easy to dismiss her book as red meat for conservatives and nothing else. But I guess it’s not.
That is what really makes her dangerous to libs. Her having the gall to speak well about a lib policy. she’s supposed to be a stooopid moose killing hypocritical con, not someone who praises anything remotely lib.
Just one more reason she’s a threat.
She needs bodyguards. The crazies are out there.

Gotta love the RINOs like K-Park, Frump, G-Will pontificating on what a sham SP is. These days, I could care less. If they think SP is shallow, then they need to do like the good Dr Coz says and turn the mirror 180 degrees, because all they’ve done is nothing substantial than to project their inner DIABLO.
At least the guy who mistook his wife for a hat has an excuse, but this desperate need for RINOs to be wuved by the likes of the Lame Stream Media is disgustingly spineless.

In find it interesting that dem Robert Reich puts populism (“the populist Sarah Palin…”) in a bad light. That knee-jerk reaction of banishing any trace of populism has been the exclusive hallmark of the elitist Repub’s over the past couple of decades. Resulting in the driving away of much of their support at the ballot box. Now the dem’s are joining in the fun of bashing the working middle class. Openly.
If Sarah mixes in the exact/precise amount of the the 2 banished P’s – populism and protectionism – she could run away with it in 2012 if she decides to run. But it must be the right mix. Darvin Dowdy
Darvin Dowdy on November 23, 2009 at 12:06 AM
Unseen@11:00 that comment does a disservice to Palin as it sounds as if you have not read her book yet have cast her in a role more appropriate for “Mean Girls.” She repeatedly describes herself both as a “jock” and a “nerd” and seems at pains to disavow any hint of glamor. Call that disingenuous if you want – I don’t think it is, given her upbringing and her lifestyle – but is not the queen bee high school stereotype. Now I attended an academic high school where athletes were not inordinately respected, and Palin would not have been out of place there temperamentally, though the socioeconomic circumstances were quite different and the cultural trappings alien to hers. She is sui generis and defies easy categorization.

She’s like a Rorshach test for intellectuals, y’know? They want to see her as symbolic of something — anything — and generally as a symbol of something they don’t like.
What they are apparently unable to grasp is that most people aren’t intellectuals, and don’t measure people by a abstract-symbolic standard. It’s exasperating to try to explain this to my abstract-symbolist peers, who can’t seem to step outside their intellectualism and relate to Palin the way her Ordinary Americans fans do.
At some level, you either get it or you don’t, and these people — including George Will — just don’t get it.
The Other McCain on November 23, 2009 at 12:21 AM
The media has gone from watchdog for the people to shill for the libs. Our schools now supply grist for the media mill to grind into obedient liberal stooges. The American well of freedom is poisoned by the presses continual drip, drip of socialism, of lies, smears, and omissions. But behold, the media belays fear. Just an ordinary women? How can it be? What can this monolith fear from her. An intangible to some, a mystery, But yet we know her. She’s our neighbor, our friend, some one like us but more. She speaks for us and most of all reveals the hate the elites feel for us. We should love her, protect her, and cherish her for what she has shown us. A MSM, a putrid cesspool that hates us all.

Something else: Why are people trying to decide the 2012 presidential election three years ahead of time? I’m reminded of the two dozen or so Hillary-bashing books by conservatives that were published 2004-2007. Wasted forest products, wasted time — and worse than wasted, because all that GOP negativity about Hillary helped torpedo her in the Democratic primary campaign, assisting Obama’s upset.
Right now, we’re seeing this weird vibe where Democrats are unloading everything they’ve got against Palin, with the help of the GOP’s Anybody But Palin wing, all of which is likely to pave the way for some other Republican to win the nomination in 2012. It’s all seems irrational, especially when you think back to the political environment of, say, November 2001 or November 2005.
Why do we have to have a yea-or-nay on Palin now?
The Other McCain on November 23, 2009 at 12:30 AM
And what do you think?
Johan Klaus on November 23, 2009 at 12:30 AM
It’s a war for hearts and minds. Perception is reality.
Propaganda can win or lose wars.
This country is in a massive culture war right now and if someone is perceived as being “unelectable”, that’s half the battle.
She must be painted as a loser by the MSM, at all costs no matter what. Plant that doubt in people’s minds.
Hell, AP already believes it.
Just think of how this country would be different if people didn’t think “he can’t win”.
Palin is such a huge thorn in Obama’s side. This was supposed to be the Golden Age of Obama, ya know?
Now he’s below 50%, she’s tearing up the sales charts; he’s making stupid decisions that make no sense, or making no decision at all, and she’s on the pulse of the country.
This is not at all what the kool-aid drinkers expected 10 months ago. The script wasn’t supposed to be written like this.
So the only thing to do is, “SHE’S STOOOPID!! SHE’S UNELECTABLE!!”
The problem is, they don’t realize how stupid they sound doing all this.
B Man on November 23, 2009 at 12:39 AM
An imagined condition, I’m sure. An intellectual in their own mind.
Johan Klaus on November 23, 2009 at 12:41 AM
Why, because the MSM wants it over for her now. She’s a threat to be eliminated before even 2010.
She will be a threat in the midterms by aiding other conservatives in close elections. They may want to destroy her now, but it’s not going to happen.
Only in their dreams.

Blah, blah, blah. Kyle Smith is a true conservative, straight, a veteran, and a smart guy. There has never been any indication that he hates “normal, healthy Americans”.
Smith’s column linked above is as succinct and accurate a description of this “Palin phenomenon” (and where it is leading), as any I’ve ever seen.
In the end I really question why so many people have more loyalty to Palin than to conservative principles. Why is it that everyone who doesn’t toe the line automatically gets tarred with silly and inaccurate ad-hominem nonsense by her supporters?
If you don’t think Palin is the cat’s ass, not only are not a conservative, but I guess you are also not a “normal, healthy American”, huh? What a joke.

When all a politician is good at is reading a teleprompter and he has no real accomplishments,it should come at no surprise.

Because the more dissension among conservatives and Republicans now, and the longer that can be kept up, the less likely we win in 2010 and beyond.
Sarah Palin will not be on any ballot until January of 2012, even if she chooses to run for the GOP nomination. She hasn’t ruled it in or out. THE MSM are indeed using their criticism of her as bait to take our focus off what we need to do now.
Loxodonta on November 23, 2009 at 12:54 AM
We don’t, nobody does, but isn’t it fun to watch. With all of the damage the Democrats are doing to the country it’s kind relaxing to watch her development. People are getting very, very angry with the current administration and congress. You can feel it in the air and someone will take advantage of that anger. It might as well be Palin and as others have said she connects with people. Like Limbaugh, in some respect anyway, she seem to articulate what they are feeling and thinking. I haven’t made up my mind about her, so I’m enjoying the process.
The more the MSM, Democrats and some Republicans go crazy over everything she says, just makes her more appealing.
whbates on November 23, 2009 at 12:58 AM
You certainly pegged Obowma. His Afghanistan policy is great for our valiant troops….errr, I mean photo-ops.
Obowma fretted, democrat voters regretted.

Are you trying to tell us that teleprompter reading is not an accomplishment? It has to be at the top of his resume.

Oh come on-it’s not like the woman has been hiding under a box the last six months. She’s done plenty to stay in the limelight, and she certainly hasn’t shied away from controversy, either.
She invites a thumbs up or thumbs down approach. I don’t recall Joe Lieberman or John Edwards resigning their elected positions “for the good of the people” or barnstorming around the country on book tours that are obviously part whistle stop.
Dreadnought on November 23, 2009 at 1:02 AM
A Reagan redux. Remember, Ronaldus was supposed to be a doofus as well as Sarah Palin, they are terrified of her star power and her positives towards the female vote.
Palin is the star minus the American hatred and narcissism of Obowma.
dthorny on November 23, 2009 at 1:06 AM
Obowma won the Nobel prize because of it…I guess.
Reading is fundamental!!!
dthorny on November 23, 2009 at 1:07 AM
Well put. She also lacks his agnosticism and racialism.
(That and she’s haaaaaaaaawt…)

That would be the idiot you put in the White House. You can go back to collecting donkey semen.

I think much of this “media attack machine” mentality on Palin is attributed to they see her as “W” part deux; The female version. My best friend is a flaming lib, and yesterday she ranted and raved about how much she disliked her and how much Palin reminded her of W with that “goodie-goodie” charm. W, for all his bad policies, was a likable fellow and down to earth. So is Sarah. I’m not comparing their politics, because frankly I haven’t seen enough of Sarah to make that comparison. Liberals don’t want to see that on the Conservative side because it gives them an upper hand. They are quickly trying to shut her down.
McCain picked her because of her ability to connect to the the average American, it was a political ploy from day one, because McCain had been in Washington so long that he couldn’t connect.
What we are seeing is a populist figure rising above the anti-government, anti-establishment feeling in this nation. She could be a force to be reckoned with, but not yet. She needs to hone her skills and policies and find a way to abate the PDS being thrown her way.
baxtrice on November 23, 2009 at 1:14 AM
They consider themselves better because they’re not middle America. The matt taibbi piece (of garbage) is a perfect example. The comments are even more wretched. They use words like liberal and progressive to cover for their lack of ability to do anything but rely on others.

I haven’t read her book, but it really must scare them to read her giving props to liberal people and policies.
Oh my God, she could turn liberal women to support her!!
That’s a HUGE fear.
B Man on November 23, 2009 at 1:27 AM
We certainly don’t. But…
1. Her supporters are very excited to finally have a political leader they feel they can trust
2. Libs are the angriest people on the face of the earth and have chosen their primary target.
3. Pundits have nothing better to do.

Is it Sarah’s stark contrast with Obama that drives the msm wild? The contrast highlights Obama’s shortcomings.

Your dread not mine.
Moby lingo too.
Go ahead and admit that your favorite faux conservative writers are Brooks & Frum. Occasionally you’ll read George Will when he writes about what it takes to make a pencil. Lindsey Graham is your favorite senator but not to show any male bias gender wise, Snowe & Collins are okay with you too. Arlen used to be your favorite until the party left him. How am I doing so far? Have I got you pegged?
Americannodash on November 23, 2009 at 1:41 AM
Well, unfortunately middle America con’t elect the president. If you get the west coast and the east coast, you win, no matter how much of the popular vote you get. So, I can understand their snobbery. Middle America can’t elect a president.(you can even win Ohio and lose)
Fed45 on November 23, 2009 at 1:52 AM
I thinbk this is kind of a dangerous moment for the Republican Party. The George Wills of the world will always talk down to her, not realizing that to her supporters, guys like him and Charles Krauthammer are part of the problem. Certainly conservatives, but going on TV every week and looking down their nose at her insults them.
They don’t get that they are staring at a unique situation. There’s always been a populist, restless, grass roots group in the GOP, but they’ve never had a charismatic leader. I don’t know if she can win the nomination, it’s too early, but if the GOP Washington elites seem to be ganging up to stop her, this party could be torn apart. I know they hope to God she doesn’t run, but I think she will.

First, the republic must be saved. Then, we go back to being witty and funny. The good ol’ days are at worst over, at best on hold.
Schadenfreude on November 23, 2009 at 2:12 AM
I think she’s being absolutely honest when she says “if people will have me”. She really doesn’t seem to have any concrete future plans.
The media thinks she’s being slick because THEY do that.
If the Palin train keeps rollin’ and she’s swept up in it all, she’ll run.
I wish she would mention the people in Iran when she’s asked about the middle east, that would be awesome.
But it’s not going to take a whole ton of time for her to get better about foriegn policy.
The key to it all is to show strength, which Obama cannot do.
It’s amazing what happens when there’s a strong leader in the white house.
