Democratic senator: Sure, I’ll commit political suicide to pass ObamaCare
posted at 6:53 pm on November 22, 2009 by Allahpundit
It’s not every day you see a politician extend a rhetorical middle finger to his constituents, so enjoy this. It’s no mere hypothetical, either. His numbers in Colorado have been weak for months; meanwhile, The One’s approval rating there slipped below 50 percent as far back as April. Bennet’s facing a tough primary challenge, where he’ll be hammered if he votes no, and then what’ll no doubt be a tough general election, where he’ll be hammered if he votes yes. He might as well vote his conscience and prepare for the firing squad. Besides, Democrats aren’t really concerned with voters anymore. They’re answering to … a higher power now.
What’s Reid’s back-up plan if Obama’s ratings crumble a bit further and even Democrats like Bennet start to panic? Wonder-twin powers, activate! Form of a RINO!
The two moderate Republican senators from Maine, Susan M. Collins and Olympia J. Snowe, both say Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, reached out to them after he unveiled the Senate measure, encouraging them to bring forward their ideas and concerns…
“I have ruled out voting for this bill but I still very much want to vote for a bill and that is why I am continuing to have discussions,” said Ms. Collins. “I still cling to the belief that it is possible for a group of us to come together and rewrite the bill in a way that would cause it to have greater support.”…
Both senators have been talking privately with Democrats and independents about devising joint amendments in such areas as cost control, and both said they would continue to look for compromises.
“I’m prepared to continue to work to improve the legislation,” said Ms. Snowe, who said how her proposals are handled will “be a true test of whether there is a will to improve this legislation in a non-ideological, bipartisan manner.”
Exit question: Who’s going to be Reid’s 60th vote for cloture, Snowe or Collins? Don’t tell me neither. We all know how this horrible story ends.

Blanche Lincoln also has a probable primary opponent from the left, too. And some opponents from the right in the general.

As I’ve said, they’re willing to take short-term losses to pass this in order to set up a long-term goal of generations of control and power over people. The next generation won’t care the democrats lost in 2010 or even 2012, all they’ll know is they have “free” healthcare and they have democrats to thank for it–so they’ll vote democrat.
It’s how the Great Society worked, and all the other entitlement.

Sounds to me there has to be some behind the scene massive, massive payoffs for many the Dems to make political suicide should they not make it in the 2010 election. Who are these Democrats that are getting these “cash” under the table favors?

The Obamacare Martyr’s Brigade is signing up new members by the day. This is only the latest.
If the Republicans were smart, they’d insert some landmine legislation that makes it illegal for any Congressional putz who voted for that bill from ever working in any capacity regarding healthcare provision, administration, oversight, lobbying or whatever.

Unfortunately, the Japanese Kamikaze sacrificed themselves for their country, whereas these Democrat guys are sacrificing themselves to hurt their country–which equates them to the Al Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade–hence, the name, Obamacare Martyr’s Brigade.

They ALL know that if they pass this, they will be voted out. They don’t care. Obama has promised them jobs even though Obama isn’t assured of a job himself.
Passing it is one thing. Over the next 3 years rolling it out, we will get to look at the bill in practical terms (not hypothetical ‘create or saved’ stuff). We’ll see the impact of taxes. We’ll see the impact of premiums. We’ll see the cuts to Medicare. And we’ll see the deficit grow and grow and grow.
After they pass this bill people will like it less and less, not more and more. They are all going to lose. And they don’t care. Democracy will be the end of this country because they all feel entitled to spend this because they were elected.
This entire congress is just an attempt to see how much money they can spend. They don’t care about solutions. There are solutions that don’t cost any money. But since the congress only spends money, that’s what they will do.

Perhaps Bennett (and others) are willing to commit political suicide knowing he will not win the next election, but expecting his position to be taken by another person as liberal as he is. Of course, given the level of disgust people have right now, the next liberal will have to run as a conservative to win. Then, once sworn in, they would revert back to their liberal agenda.
That’s why every candidate needs to be thoroughly vetted and investigated. The problem is coming up with suitable candidates who are willing and able to go through severe liberal media trashing.
Additionally, those candidates will need to win big in order to combat and overcome the rampant voter fraud we know will be going on. Any race that is very close will go to the liberal in the end. I can’t think of a single close contested race that went the other way.

Michael Bennet was appointed by our doofus governor, Bill Ritter, to fill the empty seat left when Senator Salazar moved to Interior. Bennet has distinguished himself by being a complete cipher. This is the first concrete statement I’ve heard him make. Yes, I agree that he’s probably been offered something sweet in exchange for his willingness to take a bullet for The Won.

Why, if the know they’re going to lose their jobs, are the members of the New Fascist Party, f/k/a, the democrats, pushing this bill? I’m not taking this lying down, and from the polling, neither is the majority of Americans.
madmonkphotog on November 22, 2009 at 7:24 PM
The dems have a long term game plan. They may lose in the short run, a few seats, a few years of being in the minority, but they can reliably count on the incompetence of the republicans to step on their crank and to have the media turn the tide back to their favor in 5-8 years from now, then they’ll be right back where they are again.
Word to Republicans: Steal the Dem playbook–use it against them and be willing to sacrifice a senator or two every now and then.
Term Limits.

It’s sad: The United States, once a beacon of how a democracy should be pursued and ran, is currently handling politics like a third world country where it doesn’t matter what the people want but it is all about what the party in power wants. There is no debate but arm twisting. The fact that the entire government is so blinded this late in the year over a non- issue of health care (we don’t have a health care “crisis” of any sort no matter how they want to spin the numbers) has gotten to the point where this is no longer about what’s good or bad, right or wrong. This is now about WHO has the power. Democrats, just like third world politicians, no longer care about voters. Many, as we see above, have nothing to lose so they will ignore any reason (not that they use it often anyway) and vote the party line while they are still in power to say “yes” as many times as possible which is very dangerous.

Bingo.
This is not about voting his conscience; this is about securing another tax-eating position, either in the Administration or in one of the organizations that is sustained by tax dollars.
At this point, a YES vote is purely self-interest. Bennett and many others are likely out of office regardless of their vote on this legislation, so they are making sure that they have their next all-expenses-paid gigs all lined up. Bennett’s only concern is how he is going to continue to maintain his standard of living at our expense.

I don’t know how this will end. I was watching Chris Wallace and the panel talked briefly about all this, and they did not seem to think Snowe would vote for it and they did not even mention Collins.

The problem for Snowe, Collins (and maybe Lieberman and Nelson) is that after their statements of what they would not vote for and the Louisiana Purchase, everyone will want to know what the payoff was to get their vote.
That ABC News story on Landrieu may have unexpected consequences. I assume she and Reid thought they could hide her little perk in obscure language and not get caught. Now it’s once big game of “The Price Is Right.”

We need to work to ensure conservatives are elected to the state legislatures and governorships in Red states. Nullification is a valid and lawful exercise of the states in the face of unconstitutional legislation.

donh525 on November 22, 2009 at 8:20 PM
The states need to figure out a way to get us out of the taxes. Every dollar the federal government takes is a dollar less that the states can raise for themselves. It’s a known fact that the fed bribes or cajoles the states with money from the states own citizens. If the world were right we’d pay higher state taxes and lower fed taxes.
DerKrieger on November 22, 2009 at 8:20 PM
And that deserves a federal investigation. I’ve written the Arkansas Democrat Gazette and the WSJ demanding an investigation of Blanche Lincoln if she votes for Obamacare and then loses next Nov. I’ve also written two of the GOP contenders for her seat also asking them to raise the issue. If Lincoln, and any Red state Dem, votes for this knowing that she will lose next year then the only explanation is the expectation of a cash payoff or a plum job. That’s bribery and a criminal offense.
DerKrieger on November 22, 2009 at 8:23 PM

Seriously, the filthy lying coward has done a great job of clearing the Dem bench of potential opponents.
