Quotes of the day

posted at 10:30 pm on November 20, 2009 by Allahpundit

“New guidelines for cervical cancer screening say women should delay their first Pap test until age 21, and be screened less often than recommended in the past…

“Arriving on the heels of hotly disputed guidelines calling for less use of mammography, the new recommendations might seem like part of a larger plan to slash cancer screening for women. But the timing was coincidental, said Dr. Cheryl B. Iglesia, the chairwoman of a panel in the obstetricians’ group that developed the Pap smear guidelines. The group updates its advice regularly based on new medical information, and Dr. Iglesia said the latest recommendations had been in the works for several years, ‘long before the Obama health plan came into existence.’

She called the timing crazy, uncanny and ‘an unfortunate perfect storm,’ adding, ‘There’s no political agenda with regard to these recommendations.’”

***
“Dr. Elizabeth Eden, an obstetrician/gynecologist and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at New York University School of Medicine in New York City, disagrees and says it’s another attempt by the government to cut costs on preventative medicine.

“‘I think it’s a bad idea,’ she told Fox News Friday. ‘I think a large number of adolescents are sexually active and by the age of 21 we’re talking about what could be five or six years removed from their first sexual experience.’…

“‘There is no money being saved by not testing,’ Eden said. ‘The test isn’t as expensive as the study suggests. There is severe risk in not testing these women and the article is scaring them away from routine tests that could potentially save their lives.’”

***
“Come on, be honest. Don’t you want the federal government to have a complete overview of health care? The potential rationality is stunning. And one thing in this emerging rationality is clear: Although women tend to love the notion of government control more than men do, it is women who will be told they’ll have to cut back. On treatments. And years. You know we’ve been taking more than our share.”

***
“We need answers: Is early screening not saving lives? Why do doctors’ groups disagree? Did costs play any role in these decisions to change the recommendations on breast and cervical cancer screenings? We need assurances that everything we’ve heard this week about fewer tests for women’s cancers is a result of patient-focused research and providing the best care for the right reasons, and not because of bureaucratic pressure to control costs.

“Obviously the first thought that comes to mind when hearing of these new recommendations from bureaucratic panels is ‘rationed care.’ It’s fair – and healthy – to ask if that’s what Washington has in mind with a government-controlled takeover of a health care system.”

Tell me why her quitting was a bad idea?

In 50 years, history students will study her use of ‘facebook posts’ like Reagan & the GE speeches, or JFK “writing” profiles in courage, and the book about his pt-109, or Truman on the train……

sooooo let me guess, the mantra now will be: get a Gardasil shot! (hmmm I’d like to see if Merck met with the docs who made this decision). And: a step towards rationing care.

Democrats/Socialists/Liberals/Progressives must be politically destroyed. We conservatives have to stop assisting in the election of mealy mouthed, go along, Republicans who won’t take the fight to the Democrats. We can’t play by the Marquis of Queensbury rules while our enemies fight as if this were an MMA cage match. We need aggressive warriors who aren’t afraid of being called “mean” by the MSM. Screw the Democrats! Stop making deals with these deceptive liars who never stop advancing their Marxist agenda.

DerKrieger on November 20, 2009 at 10:41 PM

Good citizens of America, and devout admirers of Dear Leader, something taken from each for the benefit of all!
(*Current and retired U.S. legislators and politicians excepted of course. After all, their personal sacrifices and tireless hard work has brought you the luxurious healthcare you now enjoy so they must be rewarded)

Is that too much to ask? Do not worry though. If you adhere to the U.S. Government mandated rationing of preventative healthcare and test less often as instructed, then develop cancer(s) between the preventative testings, rest assured knowing that you will receive what used to be the best cancer care and treatment in the entire world.

It’s the thought that counts comrades!

Not a chance. As long as the selfish, America-hating totalitarians in Congress and their traitorous Dear Leader, Osama Obama, have the reins of power grasped firmly in their slimy paws, we’re going to be stuck with this.

The Repubs seem ready to bend over and take one for the “team” — that is, the crooks and goons across the aisle, all in the spirit of unity — so after the vote tomorrow night, we’ll all be on our way into the next step toward the USSA.

Rallies against Obamacare are going to be held nationwide tomorrow by http://www.docs4patientcare.org. If there’s a rally near you, you might consider attending and adding your voice. It would be good to stop this in the Senate.

A takeover of health care is only the first step. Next up will be the nationalization of private retirement. Rep. George Miller (D-CA) suggested it just last year when the financial crisis was just getting started.

we have to fight in the streets if necessary. Nullification, secession, whatever we do we cannot surrender to socialism. We cannot become indentured servants to a government that’s supposed to be Of, By, and For the People.

Loxodonta on November 21, 2009 at 12:16 AM

Yup.

A perfect teachable storm moment.

hillbillyjim on November 21, 2009 at 12:18 AM

It’s for the children.

Loxodonta on November 21, 2009 at 12:10 AM

The ones you and I will have to pay to aborted or are you talking about the ones that the sane will “allow” into this world?

proudteadrinker on November 21, 2009 at 12:18 AM

Back to the topic at hand, why does Jug-ears hate women?

Loxodonta on November 21, 2009 at 12:16 AM

Let me be clear, we have a reached a tipping point in this teachable moment of a perfect storm that we should all have skin in the game to save the planet for the children.

Sarah Palin: In the Midnight Hour
http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=178974418434 ^ | 11-20-09 | Sarah Palin

The Senate is set to vote Saturday night, right before the holiday, on a motion to proceed on its latest health care government take-over bill. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is pushing for yet another weekend vote (commonplace now for the party of “transparency”) because he knows that the American people will be none too happy about the Democrats’ proposal the longer they have to look it over.

A vote against the Democrats’ motion will help stop Obamacare before it gets any closer to becoming a reality. While this Saturday night vote might seem like a procedural matter, at the end of the day a vote against Senator Reid’s motion is a vote against massive new government spending and a take-over of 1/6th of the U.S. economy; it’s a vote against billions in tax increases and penalties; it’s a vote against federal funding of abortion; and it’s a vote against considering responsible tort reform.

And in case you hadn’t heard – just a reminder that you’ll start paying higher taxes to fund this scheme in 2010 even though it doesn’t start up until 2014. Only in Washington does that make any sense. Among the provisions in this bill will be a $2500 cap on Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs). The IRS allows families with special needs children to use FSAs to cover educational expenses. This new $2500 cap will hit these families especially hard and cost them hundreds of dollars in new taxes every year.

Contact your senators and tell them to vote against the motion to proceed tomorrow night. The American people don’t support this – we support the commonsense solutions that have been proposed, but totally ignored by (at this point) some out-of-control Washington politicians. Let’s put a stop to Obamacare before it goes any farther.

Of course, the obligitory “Where are all of the NOW protesters and frothing CodePinkos?” must be asked.

obligatory…

hillbillyjim on November 21, 2009 at 12:20 AM

Liberals don’t hate women. Unless the women are conservative. But they aren’t really women then, are they?

Let me explain something to you about Obamacare, you idiot. Liberals know more about how we should take care of ourselves than we do. They’re smarter than we are. Now be a good little boy and do as you’re told.

Loxodonta on November 21, 2009 at 12:29 AM

Yeah, I’ll get right on that…

Seriously, if the Dem’s drop a coupla points with women voters, with everything else that’s going on, 2010 is starting to shape up rather nicely.

hillbillyjim on November 21, 2009 at 12:40 AM

I am starting to see the wisdom of these recommendations. Our chances of getting most diseases are slim enough that we should give up all screening and preventive care. Dying young sure beats the heck out enduring false positives and the stress of enduring biopsies or colposcopies.

Thanks Dems!

I am pretty sure I have outed myself as a Hospice nurse before….The worse death I have ever witnessed was a 36 yr old mother of 4 who died of cervical cancer. Horrible and the sad fact is that she had been in for pap’s every year religously.

I have also posted that my entire family on my moms side is riddled with breast cancer. Thanks Dems.

I read tonight Landrieu will put her clothes back on and take the 100 million off the nightstand. Encouraging is that Arkansas residents are posting on boards that Lincoln seems to be practically polling every household back home.

Marcus on November 20, 2009 at 10:37 PM

Yes, it’s all Lincoln now.

But Nancy Pelosi promised us this lump of coal in our Chritmas stockings. So, the liberals will do everything in their power to pass this bill. If they can’t, they look like losers.

Loxodonta on November 21, 2009 at 1:10 AM

We had a good discussion on the mammogram deal the other night. I’m probably in the minority. I LIKE seeing this information from “Best Practices” groups.

In my opinion, that doesn’t mean you HAVE to follow the suggestions. Most people don’t pay attention to nutrition guidelines or exercise guidelines, either.

But I do like the approach.

I think it’s unfortunate that they picked women’s issues to focus on first. We women are not exactly high on the list in medical practices. As someone posted, men’s erectile dysfunction tends to get more research money than issues that are killing women, such as heart disease. We don’t show the same type of symptoms as men and often get overlooked before it’s too late.

But I do like best practices suggestions. And I think this is another one that is probably spot on, with a dose of commonsense.

I know a woman who developed cervical cancer at age 17-about 40 years ago. It wasn’t properly diagnosed until she was 23–no pap smear tests then. She lost her uterus and never had children as a result.
***
The pap smear and breast exams should be yearly–starting and puberty and ending at menopause when the high hormone levels that cause these types of cancer are no longer present. And the hormone replacement “therapy” also seems to be able to induce cancer. Better to have hot flashes than cancer.
