Chris Matthews: Is Obama just too darned intellectual?
posted at 9:51 pm on November 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
Believe it or not, he’s not just spinning here. He’s sincerely criticizing Obama for some of his dopier decisions lately; he just can’t help letting his admiration for The One get in the way and filter it as a matter of excess virtue. None of the problems he cites are necessarily — or actually — the product of too much deep thinkin’. Obama’s bow to Akihito was, in fact, stupid since it had the opposite intended effect. His deliberations on Afghanistan are fine, but should have been conducted six months ago given McChrystal’s warning that the war would be lost within a year. The KSM decision is dumb not only because it’ll give archterrorists a media platform (as Matthews himself acknowledges) but because it’s completely incoherent from the standpoint of due process. Obama’s problem isn’t that he’s too thoughtful, in other words; thoughtfulness is all to the good. It’s that he’s indecisive, slow to move on public priorities that don’t coincide with his agenda, and too eager to be liked abroad. A self-critical intellectual could correct all of that. How ’bout it, champ?
Needless to say, another reason for the “intellectual” framework here is, of course, as a counterpoint to Palin, who’s had a great week while the numbers for Einstein and his signature bill slip further into the toilet. There must be a unified field theory that explains both phenomena and, of course, makes the Democrat look as good as possible. Voila. Click the image to watch.

To answer Tingles’ question.
No, Obama is not too darned intellectual.
He is a conniving hell-bent politician attempting to restructure the entire being of the United States no matter what the cost.
But, intellectual? Not even close. [ No, he is not as smart as a fifth grader. ]

They need to believe that. If we are lucky enough to only be “blessed” with one term of The Won, it will be because he was just too darn smart for the public to understand and with our need for instant gratification we weren’t willing to give him time to fix the whole world.
Cindy Munford on November 20, 2009 at 10:02 PM
Intellectual?
He keeps using that word.
I do not think it means what he thinks it means.
justltl on November 20, 2009 at 10:02 PM
I wonder sometimes if he’s just trying to see how far he can go before the idiots on his side call him out.
Either that or liberals are just doubling down as Obama collapses with fanatical devotion.
I sort of hope they truly believe all this. At least a little shaddenfreude will provide some entertainment during the era of hope&change.

Fighton03 on November 20, 2009 at 10:07 PM
Yeah, he’s too intellectual to bother with thinking. He can’t even decide on a frickin’ dog. Afghanistan? It’ll take him years to decide, although events will eventually decide FOR him.
Typical liberal. Mistaking words for actions. Giving credit for intent and ignoring results.
hawksruleva on November 20, 2009 at 10:07 PM
Obama an intellectual? That’s a laugh. Maybe compared to Matthews, who is a bit lower on the scale within the idiot range.

Carter was very intellectual also wasn’t he? I will take a Reagan who actually knew what the hell he was doing over any of these book smart wonderboys any day of the week.

SteveMG on November 20, 2009 at 10:11 PM
All Obama’s errors and mistakes must be attributed to the fact that he is just too awesome.
I was thinking about this when I was watching a clip of him being interviewed about not meeting his own deadline for closing Gitmo. He actually said something like, “things move much slower in Washington than I had anticipated when I signed the order.”
Got that, America. He is incredibly wise and virtuous and just didn’t realize how hard it would be to work in the swamp of Washington. Unbelievable.

Americannodash on November 20, 2009 at 10:15 PM
Chris Matthews was embarrassed by Joe Scarborough on his morning show when Tingles said it was his “job” or “duty” to “make sure Obama was successful.” Joe said it wasn’t a reporter’s job to “make sure” of anything, it was a reporters job to report. Matthews would have none of it and his ears were red and his jaw clenched.
Who knew it would be so amusing. (Who didn’t know?)
Marcus on November 20, 2009 at 10:16 PM
Who is Chris Matthews?
solidaction on November 20, 2009 at 10:16 PM
I had a high school friend who managed to SOUND intellectual. It was an affectation. When challenged, she sounded a lot like Obama…defensive and shifted blame.
Are Obama’s college transcripts sealed to conceal he was a glib but sub-par affirmative action student? Maybe Chrissy should stop assuming Obama’s intellectual gifts without any proof of same.
For a great “intellect,” Bam is certainly doing a lot of really stupid stuff.

The guy, I don’t believe, has ever had a thought of his own, everything is planned out. I’d still like him to prove me wrong that he doesn’t know how to tie his shoes, I think he wakes up every morning and walks into poor Sasha’s room so she can do it, or I guess Rahm is pretty short so shouldn’t be a problem for him.

Chris Matthews is a biased hack. I wish he’s just get creamed by a bus and save everyone the angst.
Wilbur on November 20, 2009 at 11:11 PM
Mr Matthews like so many of his ilk have mistaken a polished manner for serious intellect.
The history books are full of men whose cultured presence cloaked a shallow mind.
That said, I don’t think Mr Obama is a completely empty suit. I believe he’s quite intelligent.
Once again, however, man’s past is replete with brilliant but fatally incapable leaders.
JEM on November 20, 2009 at 11:12 PM
Chris Matthews’ favorite intellectual won’t release his transcripts because the record shows that George W. Bush was smarter then both Gore and Kerry. I suggest that Obama knows that his academic record isn’t up to W’s slightly better then average performance.

noblejones on November 20, 2009 at 11:38 PM
No one else seems to get it but here is the truth.
Obama does not care about anything except getting a “heath care” bill signed.
He has forsaken all else for it. Why? Because he wants his legacy to be in the same vein as Roosevelt and Johnson and the social changes they contributed.
He understands no one judges Johnson for the Vietnam quagmire anymore, that is why Afghanistan is a low priority for him, he knows history will ignore this and the other weaknesses of his presidency.
He gave away his true feelings about our troops this week, they are really only good as photo backdrops.
The facts above make him dangerous for our safety and our future. I don’t believe his singular quest for a HC bill is for our good, it’s for his good.
FireBlogger on November 20, 2009 at 11:38 PM
“Is Obama just too darned intellectual?”
How does Crissie know or anyone else for that matter. If we were permitted to see some of his college records, work history, a couple of accomplishments, aside from ACORN, then perhaps we’d have some idea. As it is, all one has to work with is an occupied suit with a teleprompter, who fits the mold of a Community Organizer.
Annie on November 20, 2009 at 11:41 PM
Unreal, yeah, he’s so smart, he can read real good from a tel-promter. Tell me Chris, what was O’s GPA at Columbia and Harvard Law? What? What do you mean you don’t know? Why? OOOOOH, ’cause his school records are sealed?

If Obama’s indecisiveness represents what Chris Tingle defines as “intellectual”,
I would prefer the Idiot Joe the Plumber.
No Chris Tingle. You’re lying. You know this indecisiveness. Obama is torn in between:
On the left, he wants to become another Castro. Fascist and Socialist.
On the right, he has to pretend that he still carries the American brand.
To bad, that decisions in Afghanistan and in other key issues are hard for him. Choosing one would defeat the other. So it’s too hard for Obama.
Chris Tingle, I will summarize your rant like this:
Obama is the most narcissistic President.
