Breitbart to Eric Holder: Investigate ACORN or we’ll release more tapes — before the election
posted at 7:59 pm on November 20, 2009 by Allahpundit
Hardball, Breitbart style; skip ahead to 4:30 of the clip if you can’t wait. It’s not even his demand that’s the most interesting part. It’s his assertion that “Not only are there more tapes, it’s not just ACORN.” Whatever can that mean? Did they pull this scam on other lefty outfits? Or does he mean that other lefties, perhaps politicians, were implicated in their dealings with ACORN? Or … is it all a bluff? I say: Bluff. (But a crafty one!)
Speaking of ACORN and elections, this fantastically depressing poll can’t be accurate. Can it?
PPP’s newest national survey finds that a 52% majority of GOP voters nationally think that ACORN stole the Presidential election for Barack Obama last year, with only 27% granting that he won it legitimately. Clearly the ACORN card really is an effective one to play with the voters who will decide whether Hoffman gets to be the Republican nominee in a possible repeat bid in 2010.
Belief in the ACORN conspiracy theory is even higher among GOP partisans than the birther one, which only 42% of Republicans expressed agreement with on our national survey in September.
Um … The One won by nearly 10 million votes. He more than doubled McCain’s electoral vote total. It wasn’t close. A reason to be skeptical: The poll was taken by PPP, whose final read on NY-23 was famously wildly off and who still has Palin’s net favorables at -9 while more than one rival pollster has her in positive territory. Let’s cross our fingers and call shenanigans on this one.
Of course, if the ACORN paranoia is true, it only makes Breitbart’s threat here that much more serious. Stoke that conservative turnout, AB!

Blowback

Fraud by ACORN? Sure, there was some. Aren’t people already indicted in 12-15 states?
But ACORN didn’t steal the election for Dear Liar. The electorate wanted someone new. The two most popular candidates were The Whine and Sarah Palin. The problem was that the media was heavily in the tank for Obowmao.

I don’t think it’s a bluff, because Breitbart is after something bigger then a political gotcha.

Anyone who thinks ACORN didn’t commit fraud is nuts. While I don’t think their fraud decided the election, the people in that poll are really just overestimating the extent of the fraud. That’s a question of degree, not of basic facts. They’re not like the Troofers/Birthers or even the Diebold conspiracy crowd.

The ACORN paranoiacs are like truthers, or something.
Whatever their new impact on elections is, the left is very invested in them. They definitely believe they are getting some roi.

That crowd was the bastard child of Code Stink and idiots who think fire can’t melt steel! They made their side look like a complete laughingstock! Why in the name of everything holy are we going down the same road?
Face the facts people…Mr.HopeyChangey won, legitimately, by promising cookies and milk and false-white-guilt soothing Pax Obama for all. Get over it.
We have more chance of finding Osama bin Laden by looking on Google Earth than we do of negating the 2008 elections after the fact. Our task is now damage-control until such time as that boy wonder can be ousted and a real leader put in his place. Even though some of the media (minus FOX) has finally quit gluing their lips to his posterior, short of a rogue lightning strike or disease or (God forbid) an assassin’s bullet, there is no way in creation we’re going to get him out of the ‘White’ House until his term is up.

Could Breitbart be referring to SEIU as being a “not just ACORN” group that is on tape? Considering that President Hussein himself has said that he routinely consults with Andy Stern on major decisions, it could be politically damaging if it’s shown that SEIU is involved in highly distasteful dealings.

The ’08 election wasn’t close, so Obama’s win is absolutely legitimate, but did ACORN fraud go on? Of course it did. And next time it might be a tighter race, or the time after that. Senator Al Franken will sit in the upper chamber for the next 6 years because ACORN and their operatives in the democrat party stole an election for him — while the whole country watched. ACORN and their allies in the democrat party must be shut down completely. They are a cancer on the American electorate, and if left to corrupt our elections unfettered as they have been for years and years, their actions will lead to violent civil unrest. American voters will not sit by while they steal elections over and over. Obama and Holder will be making a huge mistake if they turn a blind eye to ACORN’s continued election fraud. The decent, law-abiding people of this country are no longer willing to suffer in silence while their Constitution is shredded in front of their faces.

I have no sympathy about ACORN or anyone who chose to associate with them.

How delicious would it be if a handful of enterprising U.S. attorneys decide to make a name for themselves and begin an investigation on their own into the dealings of ACORN and/or SEIU, and then President Hussein uses AG Holder to fire them?
Would love to see the loony left try to spin their way out of that one.
Left Coast Right Mind on November 20, 2009 at 8:30 PM
I think Breitbart has footage of Giles and O’Keefe offering the ACORN story to the mainstream media… and being turned down. His greatest ire has always seemed to be reserved for the “big media”. But having some footage of the SEIU makes sense, too. If he says he has it, as he has hinted for some time that he has more… I’d believe him!

The story is particularly fascinating because usually these underground investigation stories end up going nowhere. They devolve into someone’s obsession, like the reporter from Chicago on Chicago’s connections to the graft housing projects. Who could read the articles and make sense of it?
This is a story that has the deft hand of someone who knows how to make sure it has legs.
Either way, the story wins.

I don’t really like the wording of the question and the options given:
The poll didn’t explain what it meant by “legitimately won.” If people took it to mean something other than “lawfully” I can see how they might want to answer “no”, and yet the only “no” option was ACORN theft.
malclave on November 20, 2009 at 8:40 PM
Of course Acorn stole the election for Obama. Along with all of the other dirty schemes and factors that contributed to his win. Like, I don’t know, the fact that the economy magically starts its collapse a day after every poll turns in McCain and Palin’s favor.

I have no doubt that ARCORN shenanigans helped to steal some districts here and there, and maybe even boosted his electoral college count a bit, but realistically, that election wasn’t close enough to steal.
holdfast on November 20, 2009 at 8:49 PM
Perhaps ACORN stole the nomination from Hillary, and thereby stole the election. All depends on how you look at it.
Buford Gooch on November 20, 2009 at 8:50 PM
Definitely. There were several states where they hold both caucuses and vote, and the results were different, which also shifted the count.
However, even with that problem, Hillary couldn’t have gotten the delegates to win.

misterpeasea on November 20, 2009 at 9:08 PM
I do not believe him to be bluffing. I am not sure, but do not believe so, and I have my reasons for so thinking.
If he is not bluffing, and what he has is of the kind that I but think it is, with only the scale of the offense being the variable, then this message needs to be understood loud and clear by them who need to understand it: the damage is already done. It’s already over. Let us not make it worse–because it can be made worse, far worse, and not because some man calls for it out of spite, but because the spirit of the people is such that certain things attempted will. be. repudiated. Always. So don’t do it. Don’t defend it if it is what I think it is.
For if it is, it’s over–and quite a bit will be over, actually, but it doesn’t matter. All the MSM spinning in the world cannot, repeat cannot, save certain things–and they are not things worth saving. You cannot do evil to do good. So don’t defend it. Because you can’t defend it, you won’t defend it, you can’t win, and you won’t win, and it’s entirely the fault of the side that did it for doing it to start with. So it’s over. They lose. Just figure out how badly you want to win in support of them, because that is how badly we will all lose. Period.
For this is a democratic Republic of equal individuals, and though one day we may lose all sense of right and wrong, that day is not yet, and thus certain things just are not going to be permissible; and the mere fact that they were gotten away with for a while does not mean they will either be gotten away with forever, nor forgiven when discovered. For that is not in the nature of liberty-loving men. This problem will not be “Alinskied”-out of; it will not be spun; it will not be put to rest with slanted polls and saying that certain news organizations are illegitimate. It is–once again, if it is as widespread and serious an issue that I can but imagine–a little more weighty than that. For the people are not a beast to be ridden by elites, booted and spurred, because they think them best able to lead the beast to water. So don’t try to manage something that should not be managed. Just take the loss and learn from it, as a person of integrity does.
And so the choice is before you, you being those who are going to have a choice between supporting honor or faction, and are going to have to make it, and are going to have to stand by that choice, to be known by that choice, to be defined by that choice for all of history.
And the choice is this, from the Bard: “What say you? Will you yield, and this avoid, or guilty in defense, be thus destroyed?” Because we are going to have a rule of law Republic with each citizen the equal of every other, and each citizen respected not on the basis of wealth, birth, education, or belief, but on the virtue and wisdom that resides within.
We are not going to do evil to do good. And that’s all there is too it. And so you that will choose, it is time to start thinking of that choice, and to choose wisely. Accept your loss so that we can all gain. Because if this is what I believe it may be, then you will not win. Ever.
When the facts come out, let us all look upon them and learn from them; let those that need to atone do so, or be made to do so; let those who did the good be goodly rewarded; and those done bad be made whole as best as we can make them whole. And, finally, let us always remember that both civilizations and Republics are strong and yet also fragile, and while they may absorb heavy blows, they cannot do so indefinitely; and that if we here have been given a gift of Providence in order that we should avoid greater calamity later, let us use it wisely, and learn that self-governing Republics do not have self-limiting lifespans by nature, but only by nurture, a nurturing, through either negligence or intention, of a spirit that says the ends justifies the means in the acquisition of power.
Horatius on November 20, 2009 at 9:14 PM

I don’t trust Holder, and Breitbart just offered Holder all of the tapes if he will “investigate”. I say Holder says “Send me the tapes.”, alerts all of the potential defendants, conducts a faux error filled show trial that he can’t win due to technical reasons, and otherwise get’s his friends off the hook excepting a bit more bad publicity which is coming anyway. I think Holder can call the bluff and beat the cards nearly no matter how high the cards are, because, as another video on health care showed us, the referees (Holder, etc) could play for the other team.
AnotherOpinion on November 20, 2009 at 10:50 PM
Stole the election, probably not. Illegally interfered, you bet. They’re guilty, its just finding the scale.
The mere fact that ACORN did commit election fraud and no one faced consequences damages the credibility of the entire electoral process.
Iblis on November 20, 2009 at 10:53 PM
Let’s not allow ourselves to wind up in nutroots territory here. ACORN did NOT steal the election for Obama. Did they secure fraudulent votes for the guy? Absolutely. Did they help steal the Senate race for Al Franken? Quite possibly. Are they a criminal organization that should be investigated and shut down? Of course.
Obama won the election. It’s a sad thing to acknowledge, especially a year later with the man turning out to be an even worse President than even I imagined(and I said all throughout 2008 that he’d be a disaster). But nearly 70 million votes and 365 electoral votes is about as solid a victory as you can have without it being a landslide.

I do not know what role that ACORN may or may not have played in the presidential election results. I do know that in the city where I vote located in Wayne County MI., the election day of 2008 was different than any other. I vote in every election, local, state and national. I never miss a vote, ever. The same individuals volunteer at my precinct every election…. Not on that day… My husband and I walked in the school and did not recognize ONE person, not ONE. It did not feel right on that day, it does not feel right today. I voted in the city schoolboard election in June, and the original people from all those years were back at their posts. I asked one of the woman where they were on election day, she said they were told they were not needed….. the honest to god truth, we will never truly know what went on that day. We were all blindsided.

What if it’s hard evidence of ballot tampering, voter fraud or something to that effect, orchestrated by ACORN? Aren’t they being investigated for fraudulent voter registration in a few states? Is it really that far a leap from bogus registration to bogus ballots?
The thing is, there has to be a particularly fatal kicker to make this a viable “nuclear” threat going into an election.
Possible direct ties between the DNC or the Obama campaign/members of the Obama administration to an ACORN election fraud?
Did somebody “volunteer” to “vote early and often” and receive instructions on the hows, wheres and whens from ACORN in AND Donk party operatives?

A while back, when the tapes were being released, I remember Beck saying on his radio show, paraphrasing here – *politicians had better be very careful how they respond to the ACORN tapes as we have other incriminating tapes involving them*. I remember thinking he must have the goods. It may be the reason most politicians voted to defund ACORN and pull their lucrative census job, otherwise, they would have ignored it llike the many other scandals which fade, due to a lack of investigation/reporting by the MSM. The defunding was only for a couple of months which kinda makes the point. Andrew brought them all back to a rude awakening. He’s a very smart guy not to reveal them all at once. Let the vermin squirm.

AMEN
I wonder how many new “refounders” Glenn has now. I haven’t heard him mention them for a while. Let’s hope he’s getting some inside information. I’m sure DeMint and Michele Bachmann are heading the list.
