That’s when I started laughing out loud. That was a funny demonstration.

The private sector did some slimy stuff with student loans, and that’s not right.

I’m very much in favor of returning to the GSL program. I went to school on it. My former husband did. It was an excellent program, and we repaid every penny.

And we’ve paid a heck of a lot more in taxes because of that education, too.

Did you understand that analogy, I just wrote off the top of my head, but I was trying to explain how those prices go up.

I’m not necessarily against helping kids get and education, but it shouldn’t be such that it inflates tuition.

It’s the smartest investment you can make in people.

It is not government’s role to “invest” in people. It is government’s role to give people the opportunity to invest in themselves.

Even those who join the military are not the beneficiary of an investment, they are being trained because the government is investing in national security. Government is not some social services organization with unlimited funds and limits as to what they can do for “the good” of the individual. It is more than time to go back to limited government starting with the end of all federal funding for education (a state/local matter)- an easy fix that would recapture millions of wasted dollars.

Prices just increase.

No, prices go up because there is more money available to pay them i.e. student loan programs.

Let’s pretend you’re selling widgets, and you’d like to make a handsome profit of £20 on each, but people can only afford to spend £10 each, if you tried to sell them at the higher prices not many could buy them.

But if the government came along with a ‘widget’ allowance of £20, you could raise the price to £25 or even £30 and you and the consumer would come out as winners – they only losers would be the taxpayers.

Prices just increase.

Nope.

The reason that prices NEVER go down in higher education is because…wait for it…there is no incentive for them to go down. There is no true competition.

No matter what the school charges, the government will make sure that the school gets paid through it’s no-limit, anybody-can-get-them student loan programs. College cost $48,000 per year? No problem – here’s a few loans from Uncle Sam.

From the school’s standpoint, that’s a win. They get paid. The student gets counted in the enrollment #s. Good PR. Everybody’s happy, right?

Well, everyone except for the student upon graduation (huge debt pile to start life with) and the incoming generations, for whom school will get progressively (giggle) more expensive and add more to their debt load. It’s a self-perpetuating cycle.

If schools can make money no matter what they charge, they’ll charge more. And they do. Every year. And all the while, the mostly-Democrats and their kin who run these places and pretend that college is the Be-All-End-All in American civil life whine about the price increases and that it’s a “right” to go to them.

A right that costs the taxpayer tens of thousands of dollars per student each year. Multiplied out over the economy by millions and millions of people.

Ironically, this model is how the Obamacrats and the left appear to think that price control and free market capitalism operates.

Also recall the quick, thuggish reaction to the insurance companies releasing their findings that health premiums would go up. In a heartbeat, Congress began steps to strip them of their anti-trust exemptions. It wasn’t pretty.

Before the Government team started cheating they were portrayed as already being more effective than the Private team.

Liberals will walk away from this saying the private team sucked, they deserved to lose.
