Oh my: Palin’s favorables back up to 47/42
posted at 4:10 pm on November 19, 2009 by Allahpundit
PPP put her at 36/51 last month and ABC had her at 43/52 just three days ago. Now Fox drops this. Good lord — Sullivan’s going to have to take another few days off to cope with the data.
Despite being characterized by many as a divisive force in her party and the nation, Americans are much more likely to give Palin a positive rating (47 percent favorable) than another prominent female leader — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (28 percent favorable). Moreover, about six in 10 Americans (61 percent) think Palin has been treated unfairly by the press, according to the latest Fox News poll…
Among self-identified Republicans in the survey, Palin gets the highest favorable ratings (70 percent) amid a group of other possible contenders for the GOP nomination, including Mike Huckabee (63 percent), Mitt Romney (60 percent) and Newt Gingrich (58 percent). Palin’s favorable score among all voters is 47 percent, up nine percentage points over last July’s reading of 38 percent…
President Obama recently stated that he “probably won’t” read Sarah Palin’s new book. But his possible opponent in the 2012 elections trails him in personal favorability by only seven points (54 percent to 47 percent). Among the critical segment of independent voters, they are virtually even (Obama at 50 percent; Palin at 49 percent).
Have her numbers moved that much that quickly or is this attributable to Fox’s sample, which split 38D/36R/20I? Likely a little of both. Republican party ID is waaay lower than 36 percent right now if most pollsters are to be believed, but conservative identification is on the rise and the GOP’s been leading the Dems on Rasmussen’s generic ballot for awhile. The D/R gap might be a bit narrow here, but only a bit. Meanwhile, remember that she did well enough on Oprah on Monday that even Palin-bashers felt obliged to say so afterwards. She’s never better than when she gets to show off her common touch, and Oprah was a perfect opportunity. No surprise to see her get a bounce from it.
Via Dan Calabrese and North Star National, here’s video of her arriving at yesterday’s book signing in Michigan; the cheers start at around 5:45. The next event is in Indiana, where people slept on the sidewalk overnight to be first in line. As Politico notes, this does feel a bit like a campaign tour and seems surprisingly well organized thus far given Team Palin’s reputation for sloppiness. Exit quotation: Is the ‘Cuda getting ready to take on Huckabee for the Christian vote? Hmmmmmmm.
Update: Forgot to mention that not all polls lately have had her favorables in negative territory. Rasmussen, notably, put them at 51/43 earlier this week.

More seriously, I would gladly vote for Palin for just about any office, but I share the concerns some have noted that she got trashed too much last year to recover. If my fears turn out to be wrong, I will be very happily disappointed.

See, I think she could use the bias for her own good. When they ask about Levi, if I were her, I would ask “well, did you ask Obama about his 1/2 brother? I’m not going to comment on family-related matters” They wouldn’t know what to do.
She did that in a debate for Guv. They kept badgering her about abortion, and then she asked the moderator if she was going to ask all the other candidates the exact same questions.
deidre on November 19, 2009 at 4:43 PM
I’m all for Rudy running for Senate. And I like his chances. But why would he even hint at a White House bid in 2012? New York voters won’t wanna elect someone who intends to use it as a springboard to a higher office. Yes everyone knew Hillary would run in 2008, but at least she had the good sense to lie about her intentions. Also, Rudy has no shot at the Presidency. The dude’s best chance was last year and he bungled it about as badly as he could.

I still remember Bill Clinton being written off and fighting back – people appreciate that quality.
Palin has 2+ years to hone a message, practice it and refine it.
And if people think Barry will crush her remember the potential condition of the country in 2012- any nominee might beat him handily at that point.

El_Terrible on November 19, 2009 at 4:46 PM
So much for the narrative that Palin is unelectable.
Here are the numbers for Obama, Palin, Huckabee and Romney:
OBAMA PALIN HUCK MITT
F UF F UF F UF F UF
OVERALL 46* 46 47 42 45 23 38 27
DEMS 85 9 25 62 28 30 20 36
GOP 15 80 70 21 63 15 60 16
INDIES 34* 51 49 38 44 28 35 34
900 REGISTERED VOTERS 38D 36R 20I
NOV 17-18
AP quotes Obama’s F among indies at 50 but in terms of job approval it is only 34 which I feel is the more appropriate number.
With that number Sarah has a 15 point lead in indies F over Obama and a 1 point lead in F (47 to 46); 46 is the job approval F for Obama which again is the more appropriate number.
This is un believable news.

This is to be contrasted with a slick, narcissistic POTUS who does well in interviews while purposefully lying to the public and stumbling on every fact and issue if it is not on a teleprompter in front of him?
I’ll take the “not so well in interviews” presentation.

Read the book, she explains it. In simple terms that is easily understood. ONny the most avid Palin hater (Frum) would no understand that she made not only the right choice, but really the only choice, for Alaska.
She did what conservatives are asking others to do, put the country first…she did it, and people diss her. It has been so long, that every day people can’t recognize when a “true” politician puts the people she represents first, and is willing to take a bullet.
You can’t have it both ways, do you want a real American patriot…or a professional candidate?
Right now, you want a professional candidate…after reading it you will want Palin.

Nah. Best to pair her with an established pol with a conservative reputation for VP, like Fred Thompson or Haley Barbour. Bolton would be a true breath of fresh air at Secretary of State. Liz Cheney would be a good Assistant Secretary of State because she’s so good with foreign policy, but she may have too much talent for that. Palin has made Obamacare her major issue.
Based on the fact that Obamacare is wildy unpopular it makes sense her favorablilty has been on the rise.
This, by the way, is democracy at its best – Palin is acting as a political leader, even if she is between offices right now. Not a ruler, as Obama seems to view himself, or a demagogue like Pelosi.
Now, if only we can get the public to VOTE on measured reason, as we now see with Palin’s support rising, and not on raw emotion as we saw with State Senator Hope O’ Change’s coronation in 2008…

Once again, many people have been so conditioned by the slick candidate, that they can’t recognize a real candidate, someone who is a patriot first and a politician second.
She has the qualifications…she is a leader, a vote getter, can work across the aisle, a patriot, willing to sacrifice poll numbers for effectiveness, intelligent…the problem is that she isn’t wrapped up in the slick political paper with a bow…people like to be sold, they like to be smoozed, that is why people like Maddof made so much money, why Obama got elected, why the “big lie” works…

I read/hear LOTS of people saying “Palin can’t win in 2012″. While I beg to differ. if she pursues her present course she DESERVES the nomination.
As for the rest of us….All we have to do is make sure Teh One is a lame duck as of November 4, 2010. Once we get rid of all the trash that hangs around the House/Senate in next year’s election, then throwing Sara P. up against Mr. Teleprompter in 2012 has no downside whatsoever.
The caveat being, next year’s Congressional elections are absolutely critical. Let’s make sure Obama becomes a lame duck the 1st 2 years into his presidency. Everything else is gravy. If Sara P is at the head of the pack going into the 2012 primaries, then for god’s sake let’s get behind her UNRESERVEDLY if she emerges the winner.
