Oh my: Palin’s favorables back up to 47/42

posted at 4:10 pm on November 19, 2009 by Allahpundit

PPP put her at 36/51 last month and ABC had her at 43/52 just three days ago. Now Fox drops this. Good lord — Sullivan’s going to have to take another few days off to cope with the data.

Despite being characterized by many as a divisive force in her party and the nation, Americans are much more likely to give Palin a positive rating (47 percent favorable) than another prominent female leader — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (28 percent favorable). Moreover, about six in 10 Americans (61 percent) think Palin has been treated unfairly by the press, according to the latest Fox News poll…

Among self-identified Republicans in the survey, Palin gets the highest favorable ratings (70 percent) amid a group of other possible contenders for the GOP nomination, including Mike Huckabee (63 percent), Mitt Romney (60 percent) and Newt Gingrich (58 percent). Palin’s favorable score among all voters is 47 percent, up nine percentage points over last July’s reading of 38 percent…

President Obama recently stated that he “probably won’t” read Sarah Palin’s new book. But his possible opponent in the 2012 elections trails him in personal favorability by only seven points (54 percent to 47 percent). Among the critical segment of independent voters, they are virtually even (Obama at 50 percent; Palin at 49 percent).

Have her numbers moved that much that quickly or is this attributable to Fox’s sample, which split 38D/36R/20I? Likely a little of both. Republican party ID is waaay lower than 36 percent right now if most pollsters are to be believed, but conservative identification is on the rise and the GOP’s been leading the Dems on Rasmussen’s generic ballot for awhile. The D/R gap might be a bit narrow here, but only a bit. Meanwhile, remember that she did well enough on Oprah on Monday that even Palin-bashers felt obliged to say so afterwards. She’s never better than when she gets to show off her common touch, and Oprah was a perfect opportunity. No surprise to see her get a bounce from it.

Via Dan Calabrese and North Star National, here’s video of her arriving at yesterday’s book signing in Michigan; the cheers start at around 5:45. The next event is in Indiana, where people slept on the sidewalk overnight to be first in line. As Politico notes, this does feel a bit like a campaign tour and seems surprisingly well organized thus far given Team Palin’s reputation for sloppiness. Exit quotation: Is the ‘Cuda getting ready to take on Huckabee for the Christian vote? Hmmmmmmm.

Update: Forgot to mention that not all polls lately have had her favorables in negative territory. Rasmussen, notably, put them at 51/43 earlier this week.

There’s a difference, but the difference is irrelevant in terms of politics. If you make an issue of her physical appearance, it’s fair game, either way. As long as people keep making a point of how hot she is, other people will make the argument that it’s the only reason we like her. It’s an opening that we are providing them.

Of course, WE do. WE, on the other hand, are not the majority. We’re the fringe. Fortunately, the media blew most of their ammunition in 2008…and if she has the chops for another attempt, they’ll have a harder time hitting her. And some of the RINOs. The only problem is that the bloc “only the libs” controls most of the powerful institutions in our society and culture. She’s a pretty woman, people like Contessa Brewer/Norah O’Donnel/Rosie O’Donnel/Rachel Madcow are always going to give her a rash of hell for it. But, if she sticks to the issues, doesn’t allow mccain or any of his former staffers anywhere near her, she will be fine.
She is coming out with her own stance on the issues. She needs to distance herself from the maverick and his bullsh*t stances on ‘conservative’ values.

I said this 100 times: It will take Sarah Palin about ZERO seconds to bring those favorables back up over 50% once she gets back into the spotlight and now that she has stopped speaking as an appendage of the McCain campaign (although honestly, I thought it would take more than a single f***ing week!). Anyone who saw her speech at the Republican convention could have predicted that.

Furthermore, none of the media blows will land anywhere near as hard as those sucker punches by Couric and that other old commie coxucker. What didn’t kill her has only made her stronger (and hotter).

Also, not only is she about two billion times more qualified than Obama, she’s more qualified than probably the last 3 presidents.

The ability to articulate your opinion or ideology does not hinge on how many words you use.

Why say “blah blah blah” when a simple “no” will do?

BobMbx on November 19, 2009 at 5:02 PM

I wouldn’t really call Kerry articulate. He would try to give a sophisticated sounding answer, but somewhere between the beginning of his sentence and the end, the main clause of the sentence always got buried in an avalanche of subordinate clauses. Very distracting.

Bush (?!?!) was always a far better communicator than Kerry. The only reason people thought he was brilliant is because he was a Democrat who gave long answers to simple questions.

Those guys kick it. They are big time allies. And they have tons of good ideas. Former Libs. They hate Dr. Utopia. They are “Going Rogue”.

300,000 copies one day one x $4.35 per copy = Cuda take on day one.

Do the math, something like 1.2 Million. I don’t think this includes sales outside US.

Sarah Palin doesn’t actually write books, the words assemble themselves out of fear.

Sarah Palin doesn’t wear a watch. She decides what time it is.

Geochelone on November 20, 2009 at 11:02 AM

And she made 1.25 million just for the book retainer. So she’s so dumb she is selling books like hotcakes gets a huge retainer does the interview circuit raises her profile and approval ratings…oh yeah Sarah Palin is just a dumb hick/SARC Not to mention she effecting the national discourse on American Policy from her Facebook page. Too funny. Meanwhile Comcast is stated to be purchasing the major shares in NBCU will they gut it and make it profitable- will they insist on ratings and NOT pandering to Palin Bashers?

It couldn’t hurt to change out all the CEOS and start from scratch with MSNBC.

Exit quotation: Is the ‘Cuda getting ready to take on Huckabee for the Christian vote?

Is this deliberate cynicism as an attempt to ruffle feathers or a conviction that she would try to “out-Christian” Huckabee to get votes?

If it’s the former–*shrug*–but if it’s the latter, AP still doesn’t “get” Palin.

The key four numbers of the week:

From the Fox News poll:

Among independent voters:
