“I asked Palin about the anti-tax-and-spending tea parties. ‘I love the tea party movement,’ she said. ‘It’s beautiful, it’s healthy. It’s part of that good healthy competition that’s needed in a political party.’ She contrasted the somewhat tumultuous state of the GOP to what’s going on in the Democratic party today. ‘It seems like the Democratic party is filled with more sheep-like individuals, who go along and get along,’ she said.”

“‘I don’t know what I am or where I am right now,’ she said after being one of the first people in line to get her book signed. ‘But I’d do it again in a heartbeat.’”

Then perhaps she should get the interview question “If you ran for president and won what assurances can you give that you wouldn’t resign halfway into it?”

Bradky on November 18, 2009 at 11:41 PM

Well Bradky, I’d throw the other question back at you to ask the filthy lying coward in the White House. If you consistently poll below 50%, why don’t you quit since you clearly don’t have the support of the American people.

highhopes on November 18, 2009 at 11:45 PM

I think the biggest issue about Sarah quitting is that she isn’t following the typical male role model for success. The traditional idea is that the ambitious man wins at any cost and then does good for others.

The female role model is much more likely to be at ease with stepping aside on a personal ambition level and putting the needs of the group first.

I never had a doubt that was what she was doing in Alaska. She knew it wasn’t going to stop. Alaska would be better served with her not in the position as governor.

I saw it as a distinctly female decision and figured people would flip. They aren’t used to seeing someone really do that.

It is a kind of feminism that I get, anyway. It challenges traditional thinking.

You’re a moron. She quit because she was being bogged down with frivolous ethics complaints, which was COSTING her money and stifling her ability to provide and care for her family. You have it totally backwards.

Narutoboy on November 18, 2009 at 11:44 PM

So she says – sounds like an Obama excuse for failing. She is making quite a bit of money now that she has shed her responsibilities she was elected to uphold. 5M for a book, lots of speaking fees, etc.
Call me what you like but you are not objective in the least bit irt Palin.

Bradky on November 18, 2009 at 11:47 PM

Well, a lot of people intersect on fiscal conservativism, but not on “traditional family” values type politics.

I personally don’t think that politics should involve itself so much in people’s personal lifestyles.

Brian1972 on November 18, 2009 at 11:50 PM

We are being witness to the rise of a genuine “citizen politician” in the sense that it might have been used at the founding of this nation. Those who scoff might well come to taste ash one day.

Beck called the election for Obama way back when he was still on CNN. That day sticks pretty clear in my mind. I think he did it again but has not named names, rather he used a series of buildings. Two were obscured they looked sturdy but you couldn’t see into what they really were. The other looked a bit broken/shattered yet you were able to see into the heart of the construct. He said our next President would look a bit like that seemingly shattered building. I think he was right.

I’ll add a bit of humorous spin to the mix. Michigan’s governor, Jennifer Granholm, was one of the earliest supporters of the filthy lying coward in the White House. When he won the election, there was happy speculation that she’d leave office early to go take a job in DC. When it became clear that even the filthy lying coward had no use for the woman who killed Michigan, people became very glum.

You are everything you accuse the “Paliniacs” of being, except bizarro opposite.

She will do what she will do, and none of your caterwauling about the resignation will matter a damn bit.

Brian1972 on November 18, 2009 at 11:57 PM

Bradky on November 18, 2009 at 11:52 PM

And how would you know whether or not I’m objective? Who knew three or four lines of text could give someone such insight into a person.

She didn’t leave it for her personal gain. She was being put into debt by people that wanted to destroy her. You would rather someone stay in office and not be able to do their job to the fullest than allow someone else to take the reigns? That’s foolish. That’s what a typical politician would do, not Sarah Palin.

Narutoboy on November 18, 2009 at 11:58 PM

Why did the McCain campaign pull its punches when Obama’s associates were a credible question to raise? The answer lies in Obama’s newest choice for WH counsel.

You are indeed silly if you think that social and Christian conservatives are not at the root of fiscal conservatism as well. It’s all part of the same package of traditional values. If you show up at a tea party event, you will not find a pure gathering of fiscal conservatives content to allow on-demand abortions or same sex marriage. You go beyond silliness outright foolishness if you think otherwise.

highhopes on November 18, 2009 at 11:34 PM

I don’t need a history lesson from you, and I’ve been to tea party events. The primary focus is on fiscal issues. That is not to say that many, if not most, of them are not socially conservative, but that was not the impetus for this movement, and it is imprudent to focus on those issues in that context. Many of the Tea Partiers are Democrats and Independents who are united with conservatives and Republicans on economic issues, and together we are a formidable force on that front. Making it about issues like gay marriage and abortion would fracture the unity that empowers us, and is a losing strategy.

I agree. Who cares what the precedent is?

She did the right thing by her state, since she wasn’t running for re-election. The left thought they had her boxed in with ethics complaints and it would cost the state to defend. If I were an Alaskan, I’d be pleased with her decision, since the LtG have similar vision. Granted, you don’t get her unique gifts, but after the national election, she was marginalized policy-wise in her state because of the polarizing effect on the national scale.

Good choice on her part, I think.

Wrong, moron. Your hatred is focused on Palin. You can’t stand people who aren’t out there with variations on your own hatred. You don’t come to discuss Palin but to trash her.

I’m not a fan of the idea of Palin running for office in 2012 but I’m honest in my posts unlike your ignorant bleatings. Twice now, you’ve refused to answer the very simple question of why a President who does not have the confidence of the majority of citizens should stay in office. Answer that question before you become a prick over Palin resigning her office early. Or if you can’t defend the continued employment of the filthy lying coward in the White House. STFU and admit you are nothing but a partisan whore.

highhopes on November 19, 2009 at 12:00 AM

Actually, the fact is that the national attention probably forced this. Had they not tried to go for the gold and smear her out of existence, she would have just remained governor.

It’s rather funny that her enemies found fuel in the national election and sort of messed up. They got ridiculous. 20 ethics charges?

Now, they have to deal with her 24-7.

There’s a big difference between a private citizen attacking the media and the most powerful man on the planet. Presidents have to show forebearance because of their position and the dignity of their office.

Just substitute Fins with Bradky:

I started at the beginning of this thread and tried to read as many of the comments that I could. After a while I gave up. All too many of the posts here are dominated by TROLLS and their enablers. They take over a thread and destroy its continuity. The only way to handle someone like GrowFins is to ignore them. Fins’ narcisism requires feedback to feed his/her ego.

So many posters here have points of view that are interesting and persuasive. However, when even the best posters cater to the TROLLS we all lose. Please stop feeding them!

Thanks, but it’s not saying much, since there is no prediction on the future. My personal hunch is that over time it won’t matter, but having said that, she didn’t address that particularly well on Oprah (which I watched the whole show) and that I think is the people that she needs to reach.

I didn’t like her decision at first, but I have access to enough information to figure out what was going on. People that are encountering her for the ‘first’ time on this tour, they are the ones that need a clear answer that resonates in their mind. Will they get it? I think so, but she didn’t have it on Oprah.

We’ll see. I am not sure she’s even going to run for another office. I like her though.

Criticism of Palin is fine; she’s by no means perfect. But David Frum has officially gone from complete jerk to paranoid psychotic, right in Sullivan’s camp (and Parker, who said the same thing). Sexualized herself? Does Palin appear at book singings in a bikini, or does she have an upcoming Playboy pictorial? The woman’s attractive and there isn’t a damn thing she can do about it. I know Frum sure doesn’t have much to look at in his house, but he needs to stop projecting his own juvenile fantasies onto others…right after he gets shock therapy that is.

You have one relevant fact in there (She resigned as governor) and the rest are opinions which are listed as “fact” only because they are in “fact” your opinion.

Which, I think, is the problem most Palin supporters such as myself have. People treat everything she says as mere opinion or allegation but everything anyone else says about her as fact.

“In her book Palin ALLEGES that Steve Schmidt sucks, but Steve Schmidt has confirmed to us that this in in fact not true.”

We just want to see her get a fair shot. Which she has yet to receive.

rightheaded on November 19, 2009 at 12:15 AM

The thing about Palin resigning is that she tried to have it both ways. On one hand, her speech sounded like she had achieved everything she wanted to do as Governor and was happy. On the other hand, she also acted like she was hounded from office by the unlimited ethics complaints and didn’t really want to go. She should have picked one side and stuck with it. She can’t be happy and sad to resign at the same time.

I’m not siding with Bradky, but that is a nonsensical argument. Raising questions about Palin quitting the Governorship has nothing at all to do with “approval rations”. Furthermore, we do not have a parliamentary system where people resign when they suffer a ‘loss of confidence’ as you seem to be suggesting Obama do. Yet if one follows your convoluted ‘logic’ and we use Sarah as an example, one should resign when approval ratings are high!

Great interview with Hannity. Refreshing that she refuses to be stuffed into political correctness. She’s reloading alright!

Christian Conservative on November 19, 2009 at 12:21 AM

Fact: No matter how eloquent or detailed the scenario surrounding the resignation is explained to you, you will refuse to accept any of the legitimate reasons why this was a good move for her family, the State government, and the people who voted her in to represent them and continue on your “quitter” jihad unaltered, because{fact} you seem to be a disturbed a$$hole incapable of a decent conversation about this woman whom you irrationally dislike{fact}.

I’m glad you realize this Brian, so why keep replying when it’s an exercise in futility? You’re not dealing with someone who desires honest debate.

beachgirlusa on November 19, 2009 at 12:22 AM

Something I take away from these interviews is she talks the lingo. Not of a normal politician but like everyone on this blog. Love her or hate you can’t ignore the fact, a typical politician comes across detached, as if they have just been briefed on what a blog is, she talks fluidly about topics and references concepts only a person WHO is engaged in blogs, news, politics radio (like most if us) do on a daily basis.

I am perfectly calm in my factual assertion that you are a complete a$$hole, because it is plainly an obvious fact to anyone who is remotely objective about facts.

Buy your own jager, I’m all out of hospitality, unless you would like to “quit” being an asshole and accept that you don’t know what the hell you are talking about.

Sarah, play me, play me. :)

By the way, I picked up a basketball at Dick’s Sporting Goods so I can dribble around and be the official point guard at the Cincinnati book signing on Friday.

If we get protesters, I just may foul-out in the first few minutes of the game.

I’ll take Bradky’s word on what Bradky “thinks.” Now, whether what he thinks or for that matter believes is true is another story.

Sapwolf on November 19, 2009 at 12:28 AM

. On the other hand, she also acted like she was hounded from office by the unlimited ethics complaints and didn’t really want to go.

“Acted like ” ? Perfect summary of a false narrative created by the media. In reality, her decision was pragmatic, not personal. The only thing that was hounded was Alaska’s treasury which was being forced to pay for axelrod and co. follies.

She should have picked one side and stuck with it. She can’t be happy and sad to resign at the same time.

Speedwagon82 on November 19, 2009 at 12:15 AM

oh really? well she loved her job as governor (happy) but decided to leave because she was 1) in debt 2) not getting anything accomplished 3) getting hammered with frivilous ethics complaints and 4) she knew she could be more effective elsewhere…she was upset (sad) that she was forced out…hmmm…oh i think she can have it both ways…

The negative stories on Alaska were also harming the state more than people realize. You can’t take Alaska’s problems and then write story after story as though it should be NJ or CT. That type of focus was getting crazy.

What should have been an honor, to be asked to run as VP, was turning into their nightmare.

AnninCA on November 19, 2009 at 12:32 AM

Speedwagon82 on November 19, 2009 at 12:15 AM

Yes she can. When we were stationed in Germany, I took a job where I adored my co-workers, but I hated the duty-station. It was remote, stifling, and felt as though the world was passing me by. Got orders to go stateside and had to put my notice in. I was both happy and sad to resign.

Exactly according to plan. Do not cross the Chicago Machine, or they will see you destroyed, your family destroyed, and burn your church down, just for punctuation.

Brian1972 on November 19, 2009 at 12:34 AM

Ya know,for all those Anti-Palin types,shes honest,real,
and would be only interested at restoring America back to its rightful place!!

And,not more worried about her political career, like Obama!

Bradky is playing games. The “quitter” meme is what he wants everyone to focus on. It has been explained, to him and others, any ties over, and he doesn’t care. His continuing to push the meme is only to distract. It gives him bragging rights in whatever hole he goes back to when he leaves here. He hijacked a thread, and no one could answer his repeated asininity. Or so he will say to the Obamaphiles where he morally hangs out.

Buford Gooch on November 19, 2009 at 12:35 AM

Well, I thought that all the interviews were interesting because she got the interviewers rather excited. They each perked up at some point. It was like “Oh, my….I have a live one here.” *haha

Clyde5445 on November 19, 2009 at 12:11 AM

just smart politics. you do not make it personal if you can avoid it. attack the polices, lead the voter to the conclusion. People tend to forget Palin is a politican. she knows how to play the game it is a strength of hers that people underestimate her on this regard. To come right out an attack Obama makes his supporters jump to defend him. to attack his policies makes people less likely to get their backs up and more acceptiable to the message. kind of like calling someone an idiot right out of the box compared to calling his actions idiotic.

This was confirmed to me by a story an offduty policeman acting as security for her Indiana speech back in April. The policeman provide security many time and stated what I stated above. To him it was a rarity to see and thereactin the crowd had to Sarah.
