Obama: “We’ve restored America’s standing in the world”

posted at 8:28 pm on November 18, 2009 by Allahpundit

The perfect companion clip to Ace’s post yesterday on The One’s illusions about what his global charm offensive might actually accomplish. The key bit comes early, at about a minute in. Why hasn’t his glorious restoration of America’s “standing” translated into any foreign-policy achievements thus far? Simple, he says: We’re in the laying-the-groundwork stage right now. Softening up the people. Giving them a jolt of Hopenchange fee-vah that’s going to force their leaders to play ball with America whether they want to or not. Meanwhile, here’s what’s in the Times today:

A week ago, when Mr. Obama kicked off his trip in Japan, things were not so grim. Tokyo welcomed him as much as a celebrity as a world leader, with cries of “Obama-san!” from the people who gathered in the rain to watch his motorcade pass. Local newspapers gushed about how he told his Japanese hosts that he wanted to eat tuna and Kobe beef. Even the ballyhoo from right-wing bloggers back at home over Mr. Obama’s deep bow to Emperor Akihito did not seem to dent Mr. Obama’s image in Japan; his aides said he was unfazed by the criticism.

But Mr. Obama quickly discovered that popularity on the Asian streets did not necessarily translate into policy successes behind closed doors in the Kantei, the Japanese White House, let alone in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Well, fine, but what about Iran? Watch the clip and you’ll see that he’s jazzed about all the international cooperation that’s coalescing to pressure the mullahs. How’s that working out?

Iran’s foreign minister appeared to renege on a pact that the U.S. had hoped would curtail the Islamic Republic’s ability to build a nuclear bomb, dealing a blow to the Obama administration’s efforts to try to resolve the West’s standoff with Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Wednesday in Tehran that Iran wouldn’t send any of its uranium out of the country, as envisioned in a deal struck Oct. 1 between Iranian negotiators and counterparts from the U.S., France, Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Two United Nations Security Council diplomats said they view the deal as essentially dead, but expect council members to wait until the end of the year before pushing for fresh sanctions against Iran.

Also dead: The possibility of “crippling sanctions,” since evidently America’s standing hasn’t been so “restored” in Russia and China that they’re prepared to agree to any kind of meaningful punishment for Iran. You know what the real punchline of this clip is? For all the bluster about Obama’s “outreach” to Khamenei, his approach thus far has been more or less a continuation of Bush’s approach in the final year or two of his presidency. Lots of blather about dialogue, lots of empty threats, and a few halting attempts at diplomacy, all to no end. The big difference: Bush actually convinced the Security Council to pass several rounds of sanctions against Iran (not that they’ve done much good). So much for charm. Exit question: Does scaring the hell out of our international creditors by running up mind-blowing debt also factor into the “America’s standing” equation, or is that simply a function of The One’s personal appeal?

So now our enemies think America will “do the right thing” according to them because of Barack Obama.
Gee, quite an accomplishment Mr. President.

Like someone said earlier; If they are addressing this issue, they know that he is being criticized in the blogosphere and you can bet that the suicide bloggers that show up here are reporting what they find here. And some of these suicide bloggers are clandestine and do not sign in and comment.
Sure is funny that subjects discussed here end up in the main stream.

Our allies are just b.s.’n Obama cause they know how fast and loose he is with the American cash.

Fred Thompson stated TWICE today on his show that by Obama’s own choosing, simply and clearly, Obama has already lost the war in Afghanistan, no getting around it.

THAT DEFEAT restores America’s standing in the world? RESTORES?! Restoration requires a loss; Obama himself provides the loss in stature and calls DEFEAT “standing in the world.” Liberal revisionist NEWSPEAK ain’t selling now.

“We’ve restored America’s standing in the world.”–Obama

Which “we”? The American people or international interests? The potus or our troops? All of us, or just Obama?

“You guys make a pretty good photo op,” the president said.

Standing on a riser wearing a blue suit and red tie, with a cluster of troops and a large American flag behind him, Obama expressed “the gratitude of the American public” and said his meetings in four countries over eight days in Asia will help deliver a “safer, more prosperous world for all of us.”

He got a huge cheer when he told them he was increasing military pay. “That’s what you call an applause line,” he said, before boarding his jet and taking off at 4:11 p.m.

America’s not buying it. And it wasn’t Obama that provided increased military funding, but CONGRESS.

So far as the troops seeing the increase in pay, that’s like American’s getting Obama’s promised tax cuts from Congress/POTUS/IRS. The taxes are collected and diverted into corrupt politicians’/lobbyists’ pockets before they make it to the troops. It’s like the BORDER FENCE that Congress approved but hasn’t funded. EVERYONE VOTES TO INCREASE THE PAY OF OUR TROOPS! The taxes are enacted and collected and siphoned. Like Social Security. Obama is using our troops as collateral to raise taxes to defray the depth of his disastrous economic double(to the power of 10)dip.

/Speaking of inequity in compensation, there’s something that ALL Americans have failed to address regarding compensation to servicemen since WWII. Our veteran WWII Merchant Mariners have yet to see a penny of federal benefits, though they suffered proportionately worse statistics than any other branch of servicemen.

See “Is Justice Blind?” by A.J. Wichita, LT USN (Vet), Uniformed Services Journal NAUS, Nov/Dec 2009 issue, p.33 [National Association for Uniformed Services] or contact your Congressional member regarding the “Just Compensation Bill S-663” Merchant Marine Veterans of WWII website

PC ties back both hands while Americans are decapitated, shot, and tortured.

Today’s Mariners yet face pirates and terrorism while bound by corporate PC regulations from defending themselves against terrorists, just as Obama keeps our military personnel bound by PC from operating in full offensive/defensive strengths.

Fred Thompson discussed with Hoekstra and Graham today that the decision by Obama-Holder prevents terrorists who attack US citizen civilians from being tried by a military tribunal, regardless of where the terrorists are from, or from whence their attack originates, i.e. abroad.

According to the Obama Doctrine, if a terrorist attacks members of the military, they can be tried by a military court. But if terrorists attack US civilians, they will be accorded the rights of US Constitutional citizenship themselves and be tried in a civil court.

THE OBAMA DOCTRINE: Terrorists, please attack US civilians so as to avoid a military tribunal.

maverick muse on November 19, 2009 at 4:01 PM

Obama Doctrine
Regardless of where terrorists launch missiles from, or mail explosives from, or release any form of warfare such as biohazards from, so long as the target is US civilians, terrorists will not be given a military tribunal.

Yes, Obama HAS restored America to what its standing in the world…

The EXACT same standing as we had before about 1812… ie a third rate country that no World Power took seriously.

The same standing that let Britain come in and take our own Sailors off our ships… the same standing where Spain, France, and Britain, ran world events (now its Islam, Russia, and China).

We fought HARD and DIED for our standing in the World… thankyou Obama for making that worthless…

I travel international for a living and it’s mixed. Chinese think it’s funny, ObaMao, and like that USA is weaken. Others like Korea, Philippines, and Australia fear the weakening of USA. Taiwan is Chinas anytime they want to take it. They better hurry before 2010 or 2012, when we have regime change in USA. The Americans know very little about other Countries, or their majority opinion of us. The news we get shows how we are hated. Governments and people have different opinions on Americans. The truth is most people love America and those oppressed want USA to come to their rescue. Others envy the USA and blame US for all their problems and unfairness. The majority by far that I have met. Love USA, but now are confused and fearful that the balance of power is tipping toward China. We borrow money from China, and China is considered a developing Country? Give me a break. Other than the environmental problems in China, the Free Market and the trend toward Democracy is Great. China has too many people to be managed from the central government. I was surprised on the amount of Free Speech that is allowed.
The USA has restricted the Free Market, and over taxed it’s people and corporations. The USA, North Korea, and Philippines are only Country’s to tax their Corporations overseas business. If the USA doesn’t take a turn to the Right and or gives ObaMao a second term, watch the exit doors be crowded. We are witnessing the fall of America. God Help US!!!

We’ve restored America’s standing in the world to where leftists want it to be, right? Subjugated, weak, threatened, timid and mocked. Moreover, restored America to a place like it was in the mid-1700’s, a place ruled by tyrants with its people treated as serfs, peasants and nothing more than tax producers who shower the king with money to fund his perverted projects. Is THAT the standing you’re talking about?

I’m sick of having to correct and clarify his true meaning all the time.
