9/11 mom confronts Holder: Why are you doing this?

One more KSM post before we move on to other business. A riveting exchange here, not because it’s contentious but because it isn’t: Our heroine very politely stresses that she doesn’t want her son’s murderers given a soapbox to rant and rave, and Holder very politely tells her to trust in the justice system and the secret evidence that’s going to bury KSM. Which, again, is super, but doesn’t solve the problem of setting legal precedents that’ll be used by lesser terrorists against whom no super-secret evidence exists.

Beyond that, I want you to watch this clip because the meme du jour on the left — trumpeted by Kos, natch, but also echoed by The One in defending Holder’s decision to try KSM in Manhattan — is that it’s “cowardly” to worry about the trial turning into a propaganda opportunity for Al Qaeda. Presumably this woman is an exemplar of that “cowardice.” Nutroots idiots have made a habit over the years of accusing righties of being gutless about terrorism, even though they’re the ones who wring their hands incessantly about “creating more terrorists” by, say, using drones in Pakistan or waterboarding the guy who planned 9/11. But it’s one thing for the nutroots to do it and another for the Attorney General to do it. An embarrassing footnote from this morning’s testimony via Andy McCarthy:

Holder: “I am not scared of KSM.” Submitting a war criminal to a military commission is not an exercise in fear; it is an exercise in justice. We already know all about what kind of animal KSM is, thanks to the exrtraordinary information that has come out in the military proceedings and the CIA interrogations. You could fill a book a book with it, which the 9/11 Commission did. We don’t need to bear the risks of a civilian trial either to learn more about KSM or so Mr. Holder can show how brave he is.

I doubt Holder or Obama cares about using the justice system to prove how “brave” they are, but the fact that the same guy who said “failure is not an option” while blathering about fair trials thought it was a smart enough point to be worth raising in congressional testimony tells you what kind of hands we’re in here. Exit question one: Are we to understand from the “cowardice” accusation that the left sees no threat at all posed by jihadist propaganda, especially in a forum as visible as a Manhattan “trial of the century”? No problem with jihadist websites, say, or jihadist cable news channels, maybe operating right here in the U.S.? Don’t be cowardly now. Exit question two: Hey, Holder — when do these guys get their trial? Click the image to watch.

Hmmmmm. Civilian courts have tried 195 cases of terrorism since 2001; over 90 percent of them have resulted in convictions.

Grow Fins on November 18, 2009 at 6:32 PM

Goody. Only 10% chance KSM goes free.

faraway on November 18, 2009 at 6:35 PM

At what point do people say Obama and his administration should be removed from power? Our dear reader thinks just because enough morons bought his lies he is free to do anything he wants to us.

tarpon on November 18, 2009 at 6:35 PM

1. Once again, it was Holder’s former liberal law firms and colleagues that caused the delays in prosecuting the terrorists (yes, I said it), but he threw in the “delay” issue. The principal reason there were so few military trials is the tireless campaign conducted by leftist lawyers to derail military tribunals by challenging them in the courts. Many of those lawyers are now working for the Obama Justice Department.
2. Either this exchange between the woman and Holder will get zero MSM coverage, or the MSM will make her out to be something other than a mother who lost her son on 9/11. If liberals would address their concerns in the respectful manner in which this lady did, I’d have a little more respect from them. But shouting and throwing objects is more their M.O. which is why I dismiss them as a$$clowns.
3. She spoke for over four minutes (from her heart) without using any notes or a teleprompter. Very, very impressive!

RMCS_USN on November 18, 2009 at 6:36 PM

Did Holder even stop to think that KSM will probably want to defend himself, making him eligible to all the intel regarding him and his buddies? Did Holder even stop to think about the jurors and Judge that are probably going to need protection for the rest of their lives?
My guess is yes, but that isn’t as important as creating this circus.
And to think Holder said he didn’t talk to Bambi about this decision to hold the trial in NY federal court. I say booshite! He just said that so when this all blows up (and it will), Bambi has plausible deniability.

Geronimo on November 18, 2009 at 6:36 PM

I’ve never seen a woman enjoy her son’s deaths so much.

This self-obsessed woman seems genuinely unaware that 9-11 was an attack on our nation and acts as if the terrorist attack only happened to her. She believes the entire country is required to marinate in her exquisite personal agony. Apparently, denouncing Obama is part of the closure process.

This 9/11 mother is a witche and harpie. You can’t argue with her. You just have to listen.*

Holder: “I am not scared of KSM”

This displays the conceited hubris of this administration… It’s all about THEM; they don’t give a rip about how it affects the people!

This should be a montra for the Republican Party.

What an effing disgrace this clown Holder is. He makes my skin crawl.

Trust in the Justice System? Not with HIM at the helm. This cretin is the same one who had to apologize to Congress for HIS involvement in pardoning FALN Terrorist and Marc Rich under the Clinton Administration. That’s what HIS track record says!

Disgrazia!

“failure is not an option”

I’m sure that’s what Marcia Clark was told before the OJ trial. How does Holder plan to make this a reality? Tamper with the jury?

Fed45 on November 18, 2009 at 6:50 PM

Conservatives are liberals that have been mugged; With all the mass mugging going on, you’d think people would come around.

I think you and I busted this Bridge Dweller with 2 back to back posts. To wit…

Civilian courts have tried 195 cases of terrorism since 2001

1. No mention of where these trials were. For all we know, many of them were terror trials in other countries totally unrelated to the 9/11 attacks or unrelated to AQ.

2. “Since 2001″? The 9/11 attacks happened when there were only 3 1/2 months more or less left in the entire year. And none of the trials related til 9/11 started in that time frame.

As you say, a link would be nice…

Del Dolemonte on November 18, 2009 at 7:01 PM

It’s probably crazy, but I keep thinking Holder’s ’secret’ is some type of deal between the Obama administration and AQ or an AQ affiliate.

Holder is on the side of the ENEMY. Holder, you’d BETTER be DAMNED scared of us, it’s not muslim terrorists you should fear, it’s the AMERICAN PEOPLE.
We don’t take lightly that you piss on the graves of our loved ones.
Holder should be hung for treason right at the same time KSM is hung.

I am going to blame Bush on this.

Here is how it should have gone down. KSM got captured. We interrogate him for nearly a year in depth. Once done, high velocity lead to the back of the skull and then dumped into a grave filled with pig blood.

I remember one time before when the Prosecutor kept promising “I have super-secret evidence no one else has seen that will guarantee a conviction just you wait I’m really serious here.”

Great! We’ll probably get Lionel Hutz prosecuting KSM.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m going to prove to you not only that KSM is guilty, but that he is also innocent of not being guilty.”

“Don’t worry, Mr. Holder. I have a foolproof strategy. Surprise witnesses, each more surprising than the last. The judge won’t know what hit him.”

Fed45 on November 18, 2009 at 7:14 PM

Grow Fins on November 18, 2009 at 6:32 PM

Not the point. And for nice liberals, you folks certainly seem to be focused on the outcomes of the trials, which is NOT the most important issue.

One issue more important is ENCOURAGING terrorists to attack civilians so that they get tried in civilian courts.

Another is revealing classified information. See your fellow traveler Lynne Stewart.

Another is setting bad precedents. I’m sure you lefties will be screaming if some appellate judge relaxes the due process so that KSM doesn’t get off. That relaxed precedent will also apply to US citizens in court.

You’re clueless.

They can’t even get Mumia Abu-Jamal fried yet. How long does anyone seriously think it will take to actually execute KSM? How long before some leftist tools start calling him a political prisoner and demand his release?

rockmom on November 18, 2009 at 8:29 PM

I have great respect for this lady’s self control and eloquence. She represents the America that I want my child to be a part of, not the one Holder represents.

d1carter on November 18, 2009 at 8:30 PM

Please, someone tell me I saw this only because I’m partisan and bigotted. Did anyone see Holder today, when Lindsay Graham was questioning him, when he got that deer in the headlights look on his face? He honestly looked like he hadn’t thought of the things Graham was telling him. He looked mesmerized when Graham was explaining how necessary it was for commanders in the field to know how they’re going to handle interrogating a prisoner.

We’ve elected the guys in the corner that said, “If I was running this country……..” well, now they are and we can see the result of that. If only the MSM had done their job, we wouldn’t have had a Barack Obama. We might have had a Hillary Clinton, but no Obama. I’m not sure Hillary would have been that much better but one thing I do know, she would never have allowed Nancy Pelosi to write legislation.

SECRET evidence? Perhaps Holder is unaware of a requirement for “discovery” by the defense attorneys for KSM?

Not that Holder has ever been a “real” lawyer. But I hear he’s great at obtaining pardons!

I am also worried about the Precedent this trial will set. Will a statement be acceptable in court if Miranda rights have not been read? Will such a confession be acceptable in court? Won’t this impact real civil trials? Will future Presidents/Attorney Generals be able to guarantee conviction and manipulate judicial system for politically favorable outcomes?

If we don’t grant them the rights that we have in civilian courts won’t that amount to setting a precedent where we are stripped of those rights by Precedent.

If we do, we are screwed.
