Quotes of the day
posted at 10:37 pm on November 17, 2009 by Allahpundit
“’That was a mistake,’ Palin says of the Obama bow. ‘It was symbolic of, perhaps, our country being led to believe that we are subservient to other countries.’ She says she would ‘like to see us head more in the direction of Ronald Reagan’s thinking — knowing that we are a very, very blessed nation and a superpower.’ She adds, ‘We can get there through a position of strength and not believing that we have to kowtow or bow to anybody.’ Asked if she would have bowed, she replies, ‘No, sir.’”
***
“My actual beef is that the crap Obama is doing is irrelevant. No one gives a flying f**k if you bow to them, or you say nice things about ‘working together to reach our collective goals,’ or this ridiculous conceit that just because of Obama’s ‘personal presence’ — a historic presidency, drenched in drama, topped with butter-baked crumbs of hope — is going to make a lick of difference. Nations pursue their own policy goals — period. You change the goals a nation might pursue by offering carrots and sticks, by buying them off or making it so costly to pursue a particular goal they refrain from doing so…
“So my point, then, is that what Obama is doing is perfectly trivial, and to get all outraged about it actually invests his empty and feckless symbolism with a power it doesn’t have. Obama’s bowing to a Saudi king does nothing to improve our relations with the Islamic world. And neither, frankly, does Cheney shaking his hand as an equal. Neither matters — and the problem here is that Obama is convinced these things not only matter, but are well-nigh determinative.
“This malignant narcissist thinks that nations will change their fundamental national goals based simply on the (purported) fact that Obama is charming, nice, and awesome…
“He is indulging in fantasy at the expense of reality, and therefore at the expense of US national interests.”
***
“In less than a month, President Obama will step onto a stage in Oslo, Norway, to accept the Nobel Peace Prize.
“If Mr. Obama hoped that his week-long four-country visit to Asia, his first as president, would yield concrete accomplishments that might silence critics skeptical that he deserves that prize, he might be disappointed.
“Though White House aides insist the president’s trip was mainly to reassert a US presence in Asian diplomacy, and that his itinerary set no expectations for major feats, the president has heard disappointing news in the past few days.”

So you’re conceding he’s a liar, which means it doesn’t matter. Well, if he can lie about something as clear-cut as that, why should we believe anything he says about anything else?

Obama is finding out that wanting something and then working to get it is some times more satisfying than having it. He foolishly raised expectations early on yet his idiocy is preventing him from accomplishing even minor victories here or abroad. How does one that has built himself up so much now admit that he is failing?
He can’t, so he must redefine success and pretend he is accomplishing something. It is really getting embarrassing and pathetic. Obama and his team are trying to keep up this facade that they are the smartest people out there, but everyone else around the world is seeing them for what they really are, which is a bunch of naive, incompetent morons. It is really quite amazing, to this day, Barack Obama has not one accomplishment through his entire political career other than being elected and talking. Not one idea, objective, initiative has been successful and most of them have no public support whatsoever. It is amazing his approval ratings aren’t even lower.

Sure except the Chinese won’t allow their currency to float like everyone else has to and if we gently remind them of their much less than fair trade practices, making them fabulously rich even during a deep world recession, they’ll remind us of the 12 trillion, we stupidly beyond imagining, owe them, and if we could kindly, shut up or pay up.
So we’re going to get along with China real well while we let them suck our blood and stay just within their lending limits.
And this President thinks he runs the world.

Obama not only embarrassed himself, but also Emperor Akihito.
In Japanese culture, you do not shake hands and bow at the same time. It is simply not done and it is an insult to Japanese mannerisms. But then, the man-child that is the Obama, would not rush to judgment by being insensitive to any one group of people, outside of Islam of course.
Emperor Akihito, along with his wife, are looking rather perplexed as to what the hell this idiot is doing, while remaining politely bemused by this buffoons actions.
It was bad enough that George H.W. Bush actually threw up on the Japanese prime minister back in 1992, now we have Obama regurgitating Ectoplasmic Goo over the whole world.
A hot shower and lots of scrubbing isn’t gonna wash this taint off.

“I don’t think much of it,” says Palin. “It’s kind of like the criticism from anonymous bloggers, which I totally ignore. If they don’t have the guts to put their name on it, then it’s not worth much to me.”

My job entails me speaking to people all over the world. While it is true what Ace says, very few people in the US have discussed the bow with me, I do trade with China, and the reaction has been very different. I spoke the a very prominent businessman there today, he owns one of the largest steel mills in the world, and he was apoplectic about the bow. He felt it was an embarassment, a slam against the Chinese, a servile, weak move by the Pres. Even the inside office girls who arent known for expressing much opinion wanted to know how we were reacting to it here. I asked them if this was a big topic of conversation there, and not just with Americans, and they all said “Of course!” So what some in this country perceive as no big deal, is not necessarily viewed the same way in other countries.

I am not as international as you. However, I used to work for a company here in the U.S. that had its home base in Japan. I was only one of two employees who were American. I learned a lot about Japanese culture.
This bowing thing had me cringing. No one, I mean no one, goes so low in a bow unless you are a homeless street person begging money or the lowest of the low in society, intellect, honor, etc., etc. People greet each other in common with, almost a slight tilt of the head. No MORE.
Anything else shows a dog-like servitude and self-lothing capitulation.
I have nothing againt the Japanese. But the lefty lunatics must remember that they invaded China. They killed, raped, tortured way, way before they came after us wtih Pearl Harbor.

Bambi is too stupid to understand the flaw in his bowing to foreign rulers. That is,American Presidents DO NOT BOW or show obiesence to any ruler of any other country. The foundation of Americanism is the sanctity of the individual over the power of the ruler. The President of the only nation that recognizes that fact is the representative of that sanctity of individualism, and has no RIGHT to pay homage to the representatives of collectivist cultures. His RIGHTS as POTUS come second to MY RIGHTS as an American citizen.
If Bambi wants to kiss the a$$e$ of foreign leaders after he is removed from office, that is his choice, but not as long as he represents MY rights as a free individual.
