Video: Palin on Oprah

posted at 7:58 pm on November 16, 2009 by Allahpundit

People want to talk about it, so here’s your thread. I don’t think the whole interview’s online but the Daily Beast clipped and compiled what it calls the seven best moments. Click the image to watch. She must have done well because even normally inhospitable media outlets like TNR are giving her a grudging thumbs up. More from the Beast, whose founder sneered at Palin as recently as this morning:

Never has Sarah Palin appeared so comfortable in her own skin on national television as she did Monday afternoon on The Oprah Winfrey Show. She spoke in clear, easily diagrammable sentences—none of those weird locutions about Putin rearing his head somewhere in the stratosphere over the Aleutian Islands. She was approachable and full of pep. And even with that percussive laugh—the raucous call of an exotic plumed bird during mating season, perhaps—she displayed an appealingly mordant sense of humor.

Normally I’d tell you to follow the link, but this is the Beast, after all, so it’s all downhill from there. An intriguing footnote: CBS has its own poll of Palin’s favorables out tonight, and contrary to the polarizing numbers in WaPo’s poll, there seem to be a lot of people still making up their minds about her. This week can only help.

Unfortunately, there’s something we call the First Dude standing between me and my ultimate dream.

Oprah is now wondering why the hell she went race and voted for Obumbles…

profitsbeard on November 16, 2009 at 8:04 PM

I saw the entire interview and Sarah rocked it. Orca was dressed for a funeral but Palin was upbeat and unafraid to express her views. She really seems to enjoy confronting her media enemies. Be afraid DNC – be very afraid.

DeweyWins on November 16, 2009 at 8:04 PM

I saw the whole thing. I saw the whole thing, and The Oprah was rather flat. It was interesting to me that The Oprah opened the interview with something about her, then ended it with something about her. No wonder she and zer0bama get along so well.

Here’s Andrew Sullivan’s live blog of it…if you need a good laugh.

4.35 pm. She describes “so many inconsistencies” in Levi’s story. There are no inconsistencies in Levi’s stories. There are only massive differences between his account of reality and Palin’s. The real inconsistencies are within Palin’s own confused and constantly changing stories and lies.

SouthernGent on November 16, 2009 at 8:05 PM

I thought the interview was fine. It was very gossipy, but it allowed Palin to convey her point of view and address her weaknesses. It was Oprah, so there wasn’t any gotcha questions nor any policy discussion, but this is Oprah. I would call it a new start.

Allah seems upset/depressed that Palin’s interview with Oprah failed to match his worldview of her. The interviewed show a person that was very electable and very warm and friendly. I would love to see the ratings for the show.

unseen on November 16, 2009 at 8:06 PM

It can’t but help her approval ratings. She was a class act and especially when she refused to get into it about that lame kid who disparages her all the time and is the father of her grandchild. GOOD FOR HER!

I have it on DVR and since MNF is going to be a real stinker, I plan on watching the interview then. Sounds like the moonbats are going to be out in full force if she did as well as most are saying.

I second wondering what AP thinks about this interview?

The one I am waiting for is when she is on BOR and Laura Ingraham. Both of them are not going to be easy on her. Certainly not like Hannity. And she is going to be on with Rush tomorrow! Now that is going to be great!

I watched it and thought that Palin did well. I need to retract something I said about Oprah on another thread a couple of days ago, the “Is Levi invited for Thanksgiving dinner?” thread, or similar.

I said something along the lines of Oprah trying to assert herself as alpha female in the interview. In the context of the entire interview, that wasn’t the case at all. I thought she was fair and even-handed throughout.

A fine job by both ladies

Spirit of 1776 on November 16, 2009 at 8:12 PM

I watched it this afternoon — the first time I’ve watched Oprah in well over a decade (which is why, of course, she agreed to book Palin; it’s the ratings, stupid). Anyhoo, Oprah was cordial but distant. She did not want to like Sarah Palin, but it was pretty clear as the interview went on that Oprah was saying to herself, “Oh sh*t, she really is a down-to-earth, decent person.” Oprah kind of had a deer-in-the-headlights look for most of the interview. She could feel herself being pulled into Palin’s warmth, grace, and humble honesty, and she really did not know what to do with it.

Rational Thought on November 16, 2009 at 8:12 PM

HornetSting on November 16, 2009 at 8:08 PM

She mocked Couric and dismissed her as a journalist – that was the best part. She mentioned the Couric/Biden interview to highlight her obvious bias.

I am too old to crush but I think I heart Sarah!

DeweyWins on November 16, 2009 at 8:12 PM

I recorded it and will watch later. From the clips I think she was classic Sarah. Honest and straight forward.

milwife88 on November 16, 2009 at 8:12 PM

The only somewhat bad moment, to me, is when she kept repeating the ‘lame duck’ excuse as for why she stepped down as Governor.

She eventually got to the talk about the Democrats hammering her and the state with ethics complaints, and the money and time being spent. But the first thing out of her mouth was the ‘lame duck’ thing.

She needs to firm up that response, and she’s golden.

Enoxo on November 16, 2009 at 8:13 PM

I caught the last half, but my Sister watched it all. My sister was furious at Oprah/Couric’s condescending attitude when interviewing Palin. I noticed it too, but didn’t get angry. Palin handled it well and Oprah came off looking bad.

I so wish, during the campaign, when the question of Palin’s experience came up, she had said;

…huhhh, I don’t remember Gov’s. Clinton/Reagan/Bush being questioned about their lack of experience when they threw their hats in the ring. I know you didn’t mean it that way, but the question sounds a bit sexist …

Oh too, I loved it when Oprah finished the interview with how do you manage all that you manage – Palin’s response, “God and Todd.” Gotta love her.
