Quotes of the day
posted at 9:30 pm on November 15, 2009 by Allahpundit
“The book tour starts this week, and I look forward to it! I’m most looking forward to meeting many of you, shaking your hands, and telling you, ‘Thanks for loving America.’ I’ll give you a scoop here and tell you what’s on the book’s Dedication Page – it’s dedicated to you – Patriots – who love the U.S.A. as much as I do.”
***
“Through it all, Mrs. Palin emerges as a new style of feminist: a politician who took on the Ole Boy network and won; a wife with a supportive husband whose career takes second place to hers; and a mother who, unlike working women of an earlier age, isn’t shy about showcasing her family responsibilities. She writes with sensitivity and affection about her gay college roommate, and she confesses her anguish when she found out that she was carrying a baby with Down syndrome. That experience, she says, helped her to understand why a woman might be tempted to have an abortion. This is not the prejudiced, dim-witted ideologue of the popular liberal imagination…
Mrs. Palin’s veep candidacy ignited fury on the left and much skewed reporting in the mainstream media. It is probably too much to hope that a book that begins at the Right to Life booth at the Alaska State Fair will inspire her critics to read on. But if they do, they’ll find themselves in the company of a woman whose views are more nuanced than they were portrayed to be during the campaign. As for her supporters on the right, they won’t find much new ammunition with which to counter those who say that Mrs. Palin isn’t ready for the rigors of the White House.”

Liz Cheney on Sarah Palin:

It’ll be great to see the future President of the United States go out and patriotically speak of this great country. It’ll be a breath of fresh air from what we’re used to these days.

David Brooks is a joke.
darii on November 15, 2009 at 9:38 PM
Let’s see – McCain didn’t prepare her well enough for her interview with brilliant journalist Katie Couric, and the interview was totally unfair and biased, asking such liberally biased questions like, “What kind of newspapers and magazines do you read?”, and yet, somehow, Sarah Palin is lauded for “taking responsibility.”
Remember when taking responsibility actually meant something? I miss those days.
Proud Rino on November 15, 2009 at 9:38 PM
Now she has my attention.

This is funny because if her supporters in general are like her supporters here at Hot air, I don’t really think they love America all that much – they just love the America they think their messiah represents.

Everyone will know you’re a true patriot then.
Proud Rino on November 15, 2009 at 9:43 PM
So your definition of taking responsibility is when someone takes the fall for an inept campaign and doesn’t reveal it?
Proud Rino – your definition of responsibility is devoid of truth, therefore it is easy to see why you are a RINO. Facts must be terribly troublesome things for you.

How about an America where the prez doesn’t bow to anyone? Too much to ask for?
angryed on November 15, 2009 at 9:43 PM
David Brooks is a tool.
As for the WSJ review of the book. I think that is the best most balanced review of it I have read so far. It points out whats good in the book and also whats wrong with the book and gives a balanced and fair assessment of the contents and why it is worth getting hold of a copy to read.

I like Sarah Palin. I really do.
But she’s not going to be president. I don’t see what people seem to love/hate so much about her. She’s kind of mediocre to me.

KittyLowrey on November 15, 2009 at 9:45 PM
No, if she doesn’t think it’s her fault, then say, “I didn’t mess it up. Katie Couric was too much of an intellect for me to handle, and the McCain campaign should have prepared me for questions like, “What kind of newspapers do you read.”
Instead, she says, “Oh I messed it up, except actually it was everyone else’s fault.” This is called “taking responsibility,” and it’s what *real* American do these days, apparently.

How funny to see this panel discuss “the Republicans I know who voted for Obama because Sarah Palin was the Vice-presidential vote”. Republicans I know wouldn’t have voted Socialist Komrade Obama if Hillary had been McCain’s Vice-presidential choice.
Marcus on November 15, 2009 at 9:51 PM
Rino343,
Say what you will about Palin, but calling Couric – or any teleprompter reader on the evening news – an intellect shows your stupidity. Actually it’s not stupidity, it’s blind liberal kool-aid guzzling.

This guy is a true patriot that loves America, except he hates the one that he thinks is “the Left’s version.” Considering that over half the voting populace voted for a Democrat and most of our elected officials are Democrats, it kinda seems to me that you actually hate most of America.

Conservatives will never win an election ever again. You forgot to mention that message.
darii on November 15, 2009 at 9:55 PM
That’s a statement that might be somewhat hard to prove. If in fact, to a conservative, America represents conservative ideals, then for a conservative to not love or at least value America would be quite contradictory.
MeatHeadinCA on November 15, 2009 at 9:55 PM
I couldn’t watch the entire video either. These arrogant morons make me sick. If they believe they have their finger on the pulse of true Americans, they are very wrong.

daesleeper on November 15, 2009 at 9:55 PM
It’s a joke, dude. Couric is an idiot. An idiot, incidentally, that Palin got torched by in an interview.
Of course, that wasn’t Palin’s fault. It was liberal bias. And also John McCain. But she takes responsibility.

I don’t need to debate something which is already understood. Conservatives say its about freedom, low taxes and limited government but in reality, that’s not all it’s about.
Norman Blizter on November 15, 2009 at 9:58 PM
It is interesting that she’s not going after McCain. My bet is that he, too, was being man-handled by Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace. No doubt, Schmidt was the one who “suspended” the campaign, and, therefore, lost the election to the rank amateur who won.
SouthernGent on November 15, 2009 at 9:59 PM
No, even though I would love to blame the media for this one, the GOP must take some of the blame – as well as those that voted for Obama.
MeatHeadinCA on November 15, 2009 at 9:59 PM
You can take most of what is written about Palin by leftists, cross out Sarah Palin, insert Ronald Reagan and it’s what was said about him in the 70s.
How’d that work out?

MeatHeadinCA on November 15, 2009 at 9:59 PM
David Brooks is a jackass.
George Will is so WRONG about Huckabee. Huckabee is a joke, and everyone knows it. I love George Will, but he’s dead wrong on this.
Either way, I love how a panel completely leaning liberal can tell us what Republicans want.
VoxRobotica on November 15, 2009 at 10:00 PM
I think it’s pathetic how all of these pundits offer such lame analysis of Palin and keep focusing on stupid stuff. Seriously, why is the Couric interview still being talked about? Let it go people. Move on. Talk about something of substance. Also, one book isn’t going to define her for 2012 either. Others keep quoting Tina Fey as if the Russia joke is still funny. All of the supposed grown-ups in the room can’t get past trivialities when actuall discussing this woman. If she were such a joke, David Brooks wouldn’t still be getting asked questions about her. Serious interviewers keep asking Palin about Levi Douchebag and then take Huckabee seriously even though he laughs off almost every foreign policy question with a joke or a non-answer. I think the last couple political cycles would tell you that the conventional wisdom has had a bad track record of late.

It would seem that you have no idea what “America” really is. The fact that 52% also don’t have a clue, serves only as measure of how poorly they think of themselves.
As a reminder, America is the land of the free – a distant memory for most.

I can’t tell the difference between rabid Palin supporters circa 2008-2009 and rabid Obama supporters circa 2007-2008. Different politician. Maybe different reasons for why they love the person, but the same blind worship of some politician with the belief that they are going to be the savior of America, they’re going to fix everything that the other side messed up?
Yeah, can’t tell much of a difference from where I see it.
