Leereyno – are you serious? Google Neoconservatism and you will see that it has been around for a few decades now and Irving Kristol, the father of neoconservatism, was hardly a liberal. Neocon is not a derogatory word – it’s a political philosophy.

By the way, Sarah looks very beautiful on that magazine cover.

So much hype for a book that is practically being given away on amazon. The angry white losers haven’t had anything to celebrate for a long, long time. This is a big deal for them i guess.

But it’s no coincidence the Eisenhower ’50s and Reagan ’80s were periods of unusual peace and prosperity.

I wonder, does the fact that independents are starting to break big towards the right affect the conventional wisdom on where, precisely, the moderate middle is located these days…?

No, it shows that “independent” does not mean “moderate” or “centrist”. Hoffman is an independent, as he is not a Republican or Democrat. So is Bernie Sanders.

The break you describe is happening because Republicans are leaving the party in search of an option that will satiate the far-right cravings fueled by talk radio and such. This does not significantly affect where the center is. It just means that some races that could be won by Republicans will be won by Democrats since Republican votes will be drained off by far-right third party (i.e., “independent”) challengers.

Listen to her. She knows how to solve lots of problems. There’s only one problem she hasn’t solved yet–the media.

We’ve had other Governors resign their office under far more scandalous circumstances, such as Jim McGreevy and Eliot Spitzer, and Mark Sanford probably won’t be far behind.

Yet the left-wing press continues to bash Sarah Palin, while Spitzer, McGreevy, and Sanford have dropped off the radar screen–why? Because they know that, if Sarah Palin became more media-savvy and got her message out clearly without having to rebut personal attacks, her ideas would catch on with the general public (including independents) and she would be unstoppable. If the left-wing press really believed she was a dimwit or a right-wing nut, they would ignore her. They bash her now because they are AFRAID of her!

Reagan did what he could. The House was controlled by Democrats throughout Reagan’s two terms, and the social agenda is controlled by the Supreme Court, and Reagan tried to name Robert Bork to the Court.

The “Gipper” talked tough about the Russians–while doing more than any other president to foster détente.

Reagan talked tough to the Soviet leaders during his first term to force them to back down. Up through 1983, he was dealing with hard-liners Brezhnev and Andropov, and he decided to end the butt-kissing of the Carter years. He also talked tough with Gorbachev early on, and walked out of talks with him in Reykjavik, but when Gorbachev backed off and made concessions, Reagan was brought back to the bargaining table. Reagan’s motto was “peace through strength”, and he exemplified it perfectly. If you’re the strongest kid on the block, no one wants to mess with you, and that’s the best way to ensure peace.

Unfortunately, the lefties at Snooze-weak haven’t figured that out, 20 years after Reagan left office.

Please let’s not do what people did (and continue to do) with Obama. I like Sarah Palin, and she is a knockout, but I haven’t seen any evidence for “brilliant.”

We just haven’t got that many choices, and even less who have a snowball’s chance at actually winning elections.

I’ve been looking at all the candidates running for the House, Senate and Governors. There is a lot of diversity within the GOP candidates: new faces, diverse opinions, people from very different backgrounds, and some WoT vets.

Sen. McConnell had a good observation on this Sunday. Wallace asked if the GOP was in trouble because of Palin and conservative attempts to take over the party. He said it showed that more and more people believe that it’s worth running for GOP offices, and that had to be good for the party.

I think the “old white guys” will each deal with the conservative shift in the party in their own way. The some will leave, some will try to join the movement, and lots of GOP lawmakers will quietly thank God for the chance to finally follow their conscience.

A few years from now, little children will be saying “Daddy, what was Newsweek”?

Ask a kid today, or even a grownup. The only place you see Newsweek is doctor’s office waiting rooms, and even there, it’s being pushed aside by outdoors, sports, people, and other mags.

The SNL skits made it into the public consciousness. But a lot of the dirt thrown up by the media is only being consumed by news junkies and die-hard partisans. We get mad about it, the left gets titillated by it, and the average voter never notices.
