Shea-Porter puts the mandate in health-insurance mandates

The common joke about statism is that it makes all allowable behavior mandatory — and bans everything else. Democrats certainly have adopted that approach when it comes to the overhaul of the American health-care system. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter told local constituents that the federal government should absolutely dictate to American residents that they “must” buy health insurance (via Now Hampshire):
The Alton Board of Selectmen invited Shea-Porter to an informal public forum to allow her to address concerns about the issues that have been boiling in the U.S. House of Representatives recently. While the selectmen touched upon state infrastructure, it was health care that really stirred up the crowd on Friday morning. …
Shea-Porter said those who have health insurance currently are fortunate to have it since many people are denied because of illness or various other reasons.
“I think when you can pay for insurance, you must,” said Shea-Porter. “For those who are blessed to have insurance through their companies, they should keep it.”
She suggested that those in attendance look back to where the country was last year and where it is now. She also said the new health care bill will make it better for senior citizens in need.
Er, what? Senior citizens already have access to Medicare, and the needy already have eligibility for Medicaid. In fact, the situation for those cases won’t change at all, unless one considers the $500 billion in Medicare cuts that Shea-Porter voted to impose. Those cuts will actually make it worse for senior citizens, not better, as they rob Medicare of money it doesn’t have in order to cover a broader range of people above 133% of the poverty line, the current cut-off for Medicaid. It certainly doesn’t boost Medicare benefits.
But that’s the kind of Orwellian nonsense one expects from a bill that brings 1984 to life in 2009. Big Brother doesn’t just suggest that you buy health insurance; Big Brother demands that you do your patriotic duty. If something is allowable by the statists, it’s mandatory, after all.
But from where does Shea-Porter think that she has the power to dictate that to American citizens? Don’t forget what Shea-Porter had to say about the Constitution in August:
No, the Constitution didn’t cover everything, nor did it pretend to do so. That’s why the framers included the Tenth Amendment — to circumscribe the power of Congress and ensure that the states and the people retained jurisdiction over their own choices and property. The Tenth Amendment was a feature, not a bug, to put it in modern terms.

I lived in Campton, NH for a while and came across the state motto “Live Free Or Die” on its license plates – initially, it struck me as too harsh.. Live Free or DIE ? my political philosophy wasnt fully formed and i was left-leaning to begin with. plus it was only my second year in America -so this country was new to me still in many important ways.
Seven years later, I now get the true essence behind Live Free or Die.. and it is incredibly sad to see New Hampshire of all states to elect this turd as its Representative – is she a transplant from Taxachussets as well ?

This woman is UNFORTUNATELY my representative. How she ever got elected is beyond comprehension – the only reason I can give is that NH has seen a huge change in the make up of our population……the liberals love it up here. There was a time we were the only red state in the northeast. BUT there is hope on the horizon….the people of NH I don’t believe are happy with Shea-Porter or Hodes, and we should see some drastic changes coming in 2010 – we can only hope!

(It will likely be used to remove Owens (NY-23 District) if Hoffman is found to have won after counting the 10,000 absentee ballots.)

We allowed people with the minds of children to be our masters. We sat back and said they can’t be that stupid. Instead of roundly pounding PC into the ground we let it define us. Instead of defending American culture we sat back and let other cultures over rule American culture.
We are the boiling frog that has suddenly noticed that the water is getting really hot.
In a nutshell we let this happen because we did not feel it was worth defending. Truth be told I’m not sure we do now. In any case it is far too late to switch tracks. They won because we didn’t feel the game was worth playing.

I live in Alton and didn’t go see Che because of the late announcement of her coming. She only was there for 30 minutes and the questions were limited by her response to the 40 or so who showed up. Only a handful of questions were asked. I didn’t go because I didn’t want to be on the national news for showing how ignorant this women is and how she really dosne’t care what the majority of her constiuents have to say. She will be gone by next November, I’d bet my life on how the voters in this district are fed up with her ignorant attitude. We will purge this state in 2010.

If a civil war were to break out, there would be two forces tugging at the authorities’ conscience. Their personal beliefs and sympathies and the institutional beliefs. As social breakdown proceeded, the latter would take a backseat to the former. Plus, if you did an analysis of blood relationships among the authorities, I would bet dollars to doughnuts you’d find those relationships would overwhelmingly tie the various authorities to people outside of those institutions who oppose Leftism and its assault on freedom. How many police officers or National Guardsmen do you think are related to Barney Frank? In a time of crisis, those blood ties would be “thicker” than the “water” tying those individuals to institutions.

Sadly it will probably take longer than that, as long as Che-Porter is worshiped by New Hampshire’s Left. Remember, they gave her a pass in October of 2008 when she was the ONLY member of New Hampshire’s Congressional delegation to boycott the military funeral of Cpl. Scott Dimond, who was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. The Governor (a Democrat) was there and led off the remarks, Paul Hodes (also a Democrat) was there, and Senator Sununu (Republican) was also there. The only other member, Senator Judd Gregg, was excused as he was busy at the same time representing New Hampshire at the christening of the new USS New Hampshire submarine in Portsmouth.
When I got back from Scott’s service-which was also attended by hundreds of members of all branches of the military-I found a fund-raising e-mail from Che-Porter’s daughter in my Inbox. When I angrily replied asking why her mom didn’t bother to show up to honor someone who gave his life for his country, she simply ignored me.
And then continued to send me more fund-raising garbage,

I also wish they’d stop trying to force me to pay for murdering babies. I don’t disagree but what I do disagree with is that the sides will be very distinct and obvious. I think that by the time the authorities realize that they are on the “wrong” side it will be to late for the right side.
Look at what happen in New Orleans with the confiscation of firearms. I didn’t hear any outcry from authorities until after it was all said and done. In other words to late. I have family in both the armed services, police and emergency services. Many of them don’t like what seems to be going on but few none would defy orders unless blatantly illegal.
Lets say there is a terrorist attack and BO declares a national emergency. Martial law is declared for our own protection. How many of the authorities when faced with that situation would defy orders? How about if it was determined to be an internal right wing extremist group and then suddenly a section of the country rebelled with force. Do you think the authorities would suddenly say it was a power grab by BO or would they defend their CIC and country from the rebel extremists?

Yes, there are a variety of scenarios and only some of them end with force resulting in the desired outcome, which is to get out from under the thumb of people like Shea-Porter. That’s why the initial strategy must clearly be political. At the very least, that will help set the stage where the sides are more distinct and obvious.
Looking at the numbers, the Leftists in the political class definitely need the cash flows (taxes) provided by their ideological enemies, i.e. “us”, to keep their constituents solvent on a day-to-day basis. That is a weakness in their side that isn’t going to go away any time soon. To say nothing of their geographic weakness from being concentrated in cities with looooong supply chains. The Left is the side starting from a position of objective weakness.

The Constitution DOES say that Congress is limited to pass legislation pertaining to 17 unique subjects in Article 1, Section 8.
Article 1, Section 1; clause 1. All legislative powers HEREIN GRANTED shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”
Also, are defined the limits to which Congress may NOT pass laws which is Article 1, Section 9.
Article 1, Section 10 is the limits of the States.
The 9th Amendment is; “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

The Constitution DOES say that Congress is limited to pass legislation pertaining to 17 unique subjects in Article 1, Section 8.
Article 1, Section 1; clause 1. All legislative powers HEREIN GRANTED shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”
Also, are defined the limits to which Congress may NOT pass laws which is Article 1, Section 9.
Article 1, Section 10 is the limits of the States.
The 9th Amendment is; “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

I left Article 1. Section 8, clause 18 out in my haste which nails this pathetic traitor to the wall;
“Congress shall have the power… ‘To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the FOREGOING POWERS, and all other POWERS VESTED BY this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.
Shea-Porter is BOUND by Article 6, clause 2;
“This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, SHALL BE THE SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.”
And by Article 6, clause 3;
“The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, SHALL BE BOUND BY OATH OR AFFIRMATION, TO SUPPORT THIS CONSTITUTION; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
