Obama to Congress: Back off the Hasan probe
posted at 10:13 am on November 14, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
In the aftermath of the massacre at Fort Hood and the deaths of fourteen people, some members of Congress demanded investigations into why the Army and the FBI failed to identify and stop Major Nidal Malik Hasan before he had an opportunity to commit mass murder. Some of the revelations from Hasan’s past, including communications with an al-Qaeda recruiter in Yemen, have Rep. Pete Hoekstra and Sen. Joe Lieberman promising to conduct separate investigations into the failure of counterterrorism efforts. President Obama warned Congress to stay out of it, at least until the FBI finishes investigating the shootings:
President Barack Obama on Saturday urged Congress to hold off on any investigation of the Fort Hood rampage until federal law enforcement and military authorities have completed their probes into the shootings at the Texas Army post, which left 13 people dead.
On an eight-day Asia trip, Obama turned his attention home and pleaded for lawmakers to “resist the temptation to turn this tragic event into the political theater.” He said those who died on the nation’s largest Army post deserve justice, not political stagecraft.
“The stakes are far too high,” Obama said in a video and Internet address released by the White House while the president he was flying from Tokyo to Singapore, where Pacific Rim countries were meeting.
There are two separate issues to be investigated, however, and nothing prevents them from being investigated in parallel. The first is the shootings themselves, which so far appear to be fairly cut-and-dried, at least in terms of identifying the shooter. Several witnesses saw Hasan shooting, and the military and FBI have publicly stated that they believe he acted alone. They certainly have enough evidence already to try Hasan, which will give the victims and their families justice.
But at the same time, we have to make sure that we don’t have other Hasans waiting in the wings, and we have to fix the failures in our counterterrorism efforts that allowed this to happen. That can’t wait until after Hasan’s trial, which could take months. Furthermore, that oversight authority belongs to Congress, not the FBI or the CIA or even the executive branch. Congress has to investigate the series of decisions made that shrugged off Hasan as no threat even though he made a number of contacts to a figure considered a suspect in the 9/11 plot and who openly recruits for al-Qaeda, behaved so oddly that his colleagues considered him “delusional” and complained up the chain of command about his apparent disloyalty, and who may have sent a lot of his money to Pakistan, according to reports from the House Intelligence Committee.
The families of the victims deserves justice. The American people deserve an accounting of the failure quickly enough to fix the problem so that more American families won’t have to cry for justice after other attacks. Fortunately, this country can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Political theater?
And the announced Holder/Obama AQ-KSM trials in New York City are exactly what?
Yes…political theater.

First of all, Ed and Allahpundit are not the most brilliant people in the world. Allah is less intelligent – or maybe it’s just Megan’s bust that has him confused.
Secondly, in light of Obama’s decision to try Terrorists in NYC.
Obama wants this guy to walk to some extend. Maybe that means no death penalty or maybe something else.
But don’t forget “I won”.
Obambi doesn’t care about liberals in NYC running down the street in Stilettos as Air Force One scares the tar out of them; he goes and decides to try Terrorist in NYC – and they will walk to some extent, mark my words.
Obama couldn’t care less about “military” types at Fort Hood.
And Yes, Ed was speaking strongly about the incident a week ago. All of a sudden he is under Obambi’s spell

Very true on the main point, that long term people automatically conform to the new ideals.
Case in point, I had a family member working in government under an elected official. The job was supposed to be non partisan, but the fact is the elected one would tend to use that office as a step up to the next one.
They would take some issue that resonated with the public, lets say for example, drunk driving, and do a study, submit findings and recommendations. My family member would find hey, maybe it isn’t as bad as MADD is trying to guilt us into thinking, and BTW, the government wastes a lot of time and money on such and such efforts with little return on investment.
Such a report would not bode well for the politician who’s working hard to keep those evil drunk drivers off the road, and may either reject the whole notion, or selectively edit it so it looked better for them. My family member would have to carefully word things so that the truth would actually get out, with references, but not so blatent as to have it rejected or give the politician a reason to fire them.**
By the same token, Holder can prod and reject all he wants, and many times will be successful. However, once someone else nails the truth red handed, especially if its presented right, it will get out there and TPTB won’t have much choice but to pursue it.
**This example is only that, an example, and fictionalized for illustration. Principles based in fact, “case” cited is not.

kingsjester on November 14, 2009 at 11:25 AM
Osama Obama’s plea to Congress brings up the inevitable question raised by so many of his actions: what is he trying to hide?
Is there some tie between Hasan and the Traitor-in-Chief, no matter how small, that might be exposed? Did the White House/Justice Department/FBI/CIA know — and suppress — some piece of information at the Chicago Jesus’s request that might have stopped this act of terrorism before it happened?
I wonder if there is an inconvenient truth in here that would show yet another unsavory aspect of our America-hating boss-man.
MrScribbler on November 14, 2009 at 11:26 AM
As with “waiting”, as with Hasan, so with the 9/11 terrorists. Bush waited, and waited, and failed to prosecute the 9/11 terrorists in military tribunals.
Wait for the evidence to be lost, destroyed, or deemed off limits for trial. Wait for all the surviving victims and witnesses to meet their doom whether by accident, friendly fire, sabotage or ultimate sacrifice in battle before the trial that will take years if ever to complete. Wait until you’re dead to care. Forgive and forget.
ShouldaWouldaCoulda been whatever a defense attorney can manipulate this twisted judicial system under Holder’s thumb to decide based upon PC to further progressive revisionism.Selectivity is an elitist game, disregarding/shredding all things evident in favor of what suits one’s whim to further one’s agenda and enable one’s corruption further.
E pluribus unum. Our national motto is not limited to the contextual traditional meaning.
A “murderous lunatic” with “religious delusions,” does not make Hasan distinct from being a terrorist. Being a religious zealot does not mis-align with being a Jihadist terrorist. Making distinct differentiations does NOT mean that because he is one, he is not also the other.
Lacking all credence, the PC media fear being tagged the radicals that they are. PC media is moving to strike the word “radical” from association from “Muslim” in the public forum. The only PC acceptable usage of “radical” is Christian right wing radical. Bending over backwards to prove just how un-radical you are only makes you that much more vulnerable. Same goes for bending over forwards like Obama to foreigners.

“I don’t understand why there is a media blackout the 14th murder victim of the Ft Hood of Massacre.”
Perhaps it’s because of the conundrum the liberals (MSM) face between abortion and having to admit that a killed baby (in this regard) is murder.
And, the sad truth is that either way it is outright murder – regardless how the left wants to try and justify it.

The entire Obama Administration is caught up in this web. No, I am not accusing Obama of having masterminded Hasan’s treason and terrorism, though I would not put it past him, either. But this Obama Administration KNEW of Hasan’s aggressive deterioration within the DHS (1. FBI knew so Napolitano knew, they’d pass the info to her, and she knew enough to cover her own ass by telling Obama who told her to squash it with silence to hide behind; 2. Cyber Security Czar knew it). The Military hierarchy ALL knew about it, top down throughout the ranks. Inside the Oval Office, Casey specifically knew who regularly speaks with Obama and advises Obama on the war on terror. THAT was renamed contingency abroad JUST SO THAT Hasan et.al. could not be referenced as a terrorist in the media, being stateside instead of abroad.
Again, the ONLY domestic terrorists that this entire Obama Administration will ever acknowledge as enemies of the state are the law abiding citizens who revere our nation’s Constitution and expect the same from our Constitutional Republic government that is populated and ruled today by anti-Constitutional ELECTED members of Congress, the POTUS, and APPOINTED activist judges throughout our Judicial Branch that sadly includes Obama’s personal Attorney General who refuses to function as our nation’s attorney general from that very office wherein he works corruption.

Since when was Obama against political theater? He taught workshops as a community activist to instruct people to use Alinsky’s rules for radicals. Obama is all about political theater.
Of course, Obama doesn’t want a probe for radical Islamists in the military any more than Democrats back in the 1950s wanted a probe for communists of the government. The probe will find them, which is the last thing Obama and the donkeys want. The probe should not be limited to the military, but expanded to the entire government. My guess is that there are plenty of Islamists working in the government.

My thoughts exactly, immediately I read Obama’s statement. This guy lives and breathes political theater. His entire campaign was political theater. His administration is composed almost entirely of political theater. His difficulties now are largely due to the fact that political theater is all is he capable of of doing. Once you get past the smoke and mirrors, there is virtually nothing there beyond the thuggishness of the Chicago way and the discredited social and economic policies of authoritarian socialism.
I despised Bill Clinton for his self-serving hypocrisy. Obama has taken self-serving hypocrisy to levels hitherto unknown, and the icy emotion in my heart goes far beyond contempt. The only thing left to settle is sanity, and terrorist intent. A Congressional hearing cannot destroy proof of insanity. As for terrorism, and ties to terrorists, a Congressional hearing might be the only way to get that established, before Obama manages to sweep the islam under the rug

They did not do so well with Hasan and that is the problem that warrants a Congressional hearing
The Inquisition of Political Correctness has the mil in such a deadlock, no one can report a medical officer for dclaring infidels must be beheaded, lest the mil behead the informer for not being politically correct
Hasan got as far as he did because of politics in the mil. This politics comes from without, not within. This politics made possible the deaths at Ft Hood.
There is no reason on this earth for volunteer soldiers, returning from a combat zone, to be put in the care of a wacko islamic who had declared to witnesses that infidels should be beheaded and boiling oil poured down their throats.
If they couldn’t fire him, they ought to do what I have seen done before, create a job title and an office in a secure location, and pay him to write reports until he retires.
This was not possible because the guy was wired to scream discrimination to a nation that gave him benefits his own homeland would deny to Jews, so they couldn’t even file him away for the sake of public safety. At least on Obama’s watch
I do not call Hasan’s homeland ‘America’ because Home is Where the Heart Is.
A Congressional hearing is a very good idea, to counter the weight of the Presidency which is creating this atmosphere of dread in the mil. If Congress gives some voice to the negatives of pretending wacko islamists are not a problem in sensitive posts, the mil may be able to defend itself better in the future

God DAMN it 52%, what the &%#$ were you thinking!
The JUSTICE required here is to NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN just because of your simpering sensibilities!
Screw EVERYBODY who sat back and let this happen because they KNEW about Hasan but they held back because of political correctness.
Political correctness costs lives. Those responsible must be punished, even if only by public embarrassment, or it will continue to cost lives.
And it’s 14 dead, stupid scumbag reporters.

If the repubs get control of the Hose next November, I want to see a full investigation carried out on this Barack Hussein Obama character.
I thinks it’s time America found out who this goober really is.

Edit: LOL-I meant House, not hose.

A local radio host, Bryan Suits ( a decorated military veteran) on KFI in Los Angeles has been livid about news that the wounded and dead in Ft. Hood WILL NOT BE AWARDED THE PURPLE HEART. To do so is to admit that there was a terrorist attack on home soil 10 months into this administration.
Obama will simply not let that be the story and will rob the wounded and dead of their recognition if that is what it takes. He is forming a movement to washington with other recipients to throw their Purple Hearts over the fence on to the White House lawn.
Wounded veterans who wish to learn more can email him from their private email account (do not use an @.mil address).

They need to start investigating the WH and then down.
This is pure insainty. Let the military take care of Hasan and start at the top.
Holder on tv yesterday and Obama grovelling to the Chinese makes it most apprent that until we start at the top, we are going to just keep spinning our wheels.
Spinning our wheels because the distraction machine is so damn effective. Take Hasan. We are dying to get to the bottom of that and then poof we have KSM in NYC on trial, next week it will be something else and so on until another jihadist makes a splash (or splat) and then the whole thing will start over. Shoot, I forgot Healthcare and crap and trade illegal immigration. The WH is damn good and it is working.

FORGET BEING DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN – watch this on Sunday.
This Sunday Fox news, is going to air a very important documentary about Barack Obama, Sunday night at 9 P M Eastern.
The report will go back to Obama’s earlier days, showing even then his close ties to radical Marxist professors, friends, spiritual advisers, etc. It will also reveal details about his ties to Rev. Wright for +20 years i.e. how he was participating with this man, and not for the reasons he states!
The report has uncovered more of Obama’s radical past and we will see things that no one in the media is willing to put out there. It will be a segment to remember.
Mark your calendar and pass this on to everyone you know: Sunday night, 8 P M . CT ; 9 P M ET. Democrat or Republican, this report will open your eyes to how YOUR country is being sold down the road to Totalitarian Socialism.
If you care about the direction of our country, pass this notice on to everyone you know.

I would like to know if the WH or the DOJ stopped the FBI from arresting Hasan.
PattyJ on November 14, 2009 at 2:48 PM
It is not Emperor (in his own mind) Obama’s constitutional prerogative to tell congress what do do. Congress has a duty to investigate this (btw, they should also be investigating ACORN and SEIC and Obama’s ties to them) and Obama should just STFU.
