Video: The obligatory “Carrie Prejean melts down on Larry King” clip
posted at 5:34 pm on November 12, 2009 by Allahpundit
Yeah, I know, almost all of you have seen it already. But (a) there’s always that one hungover reader who just woke up, (b) it’s funny enough to warrant a second viewing anyway, and (c) it gives me an excuse to post the clip from her appearance on last night’s “Red Eye” too, when Gutfeld asks her to rate how hot the secret sex tape is on a scale from one to 10. Question: Is this the moment when the tide officially turned against CP, even among conservatives? Glenn Beck and his crew were riffing about her this morning and she ended up canceling a bunch of media appearances, presumably out of humiliation over the King fiasco. If it is the end, it’s probably the best thing that could happen to her. As Dan Calabrese says, Conservative Icon Prison is no place for a 22-year-old:
You and I think hypocrisy is when you say one thing and do another. Prejean upset the likes of Perez Hilton by saying that marriage is between a man and a woman. So what would make her a hypocrite? If she married another woman, of course. (Or if she, say, performed a wedding ceremony between the aforementioned Mr. Hilton and, er, maybe, Jon Gosselin.)
Then she would be a hypocrite as you and I define it. But that’s not the definition that applies here.
The definition that applies here works like this: She is a conservative and a Christian. Conservatives and Christians are judgmental prudes who a) claim to be perfect; and b) judge everyone else for not being perfect. So it doesn’t matter that she never denounced topless photos. It doesn’t matter that she never denounced “sex tapes.” Every prudish, judgmental belief that has ever been imagined by a critic of Christians and conservatives is hereby ascribed to Carrie Prejean. Anything she has ever done in contradiction of these imagined beliefs thereby proves her hypocrisy.
Conclusion: Gay marriage is awesome. And all because TMZ has a video of Carrie Prejean masturbating. It’s good to be alive.
Ain’t it the truth. To balance your reading, Big Hollywood has an interview of Prejean by Lynn Vincent, a.k.a. Sarah Palin’s collaborator on “Going Rogue.” I recommend it, but more for Vincent’s introduction about being demagogued as a raging homophobe by Andrew Sullivan than for the interview itself. Don’t take it personally, Lynn. It was just your turn.

I thought King was badgering her badly. He obviously had been told that the agreement was off the table, and he ran around the end.
It irritated me to no end.
I think she got terrific PR out of this, and it wasn’t manufactured. She was obviously discussing what to do with her PR agent.
She wins this one. Larry loses. Now, others will know to be wary of his “agreements.”
And she will probably gin up some PR for herself. It’s really quite a good debate. The View went nuts over it this morning.

I didn’t see anything wrong with her appearance on King. She couldn’t answer the questions because of the non-disclosure agreement. She should just keep on keeping on. Don’t everyone fall for the leftist attacks on her. Remember that she is only 22 years old. She is battling attack pros.

Larry King “inappropriate”. Gut? Not so much.

Prejean had an agreement with the King Show that she would not be asked about her legal settlement with the pageant, and that she would not take calls.
Who else listened to Laura Ingraham this morning?
At best, Larry King is a disgusting old fart.
maverick muse on November 12, 2009 at 5:46 PM
It seems to me that this is a very lovely young woman who has made mistakes. On the one hand society tells us that any and all manner of sexual behavior is to be promoted as normal and healthy. Many young women have fallen for this and lived to regret their naivete later.
Carrie’s only sin was to not fall in line with the PC crap regarding gay marriage. Had she been a liberal hag, her exploits would be the stuff of legend.
As a conservative I am disappointed that she did these things, not because of her stance on gay marriage, but because she is a victim of relativism.
We have all done things in our youth which we deeply regret as mature adults. Fortunately for us, those things will never come to light for consumption and comment by the general public.
In every way, Carrie has handled herself with grace, dignity and poise.
May God bless her and help her to move on from this whole sordid chapter in her life.

Her only crime continues to be having an opinion on same-sex marriage that differs from the Left (and too many on the Right). The way she’s been treated has been abominable, and she still deserves conservative support.

Never her found her particularly impressive to begin with. She’s a beauty queen. Politically, Meghan McCain has more credibility.
However, making a video of herself for her boyfriend is hardly a sex tape. Welcome to the technological world, folks.

I was sympathetic to her when this whole thing went down at the pageant, but this is getting ridiculous. She is turning herself into a whore for attention. “Look at me I’m a Christian. What’s that, tough question, you are being inappropriate.”
Someone wise once said, “girl don’t go away mad, just go away.” Or maybe that was Motley Crue.
Blarg the Destroyer on November 12, 2009 at 5:59 PM

I know a lot of people have derided the coverage of this saga as ignoring important things or voyeurism. But, if you look closely, it really is a window into the soul of the different parties.
Having just watched the man talking with Glenn Beck on the street, I am reminded that it’s little things like this that can stick in the craw of someone and lead them to examine and question their support for liberalism as it is practiced by Democrats.
Women are such an important part of the political process. Maybe not for their positions in politics, but no one can deny that womens’ issues have driven a great deal of the politics of the last several decades.
So, yea, this whole thing is seamy and in many ways, I have sickened of it, but there are definitely lessons to be learned from it.

King says “Inappropriate King Live continues…” If they cut the sound at that point–or in some way she could not hear the call, there is no reason that she might not think that they’re in a break. In fact, the conversation with somebody on the side, looks like she has no idea that she’s on television.
I don’t think we can discount the liberal gotcha setup here. I really don’t think we can. I don’t trust any of them. I have tried to keep a moderate head, but after reading that Obama might purify the civil service of political-to-merit civil servants in the last 5 years, and hearing that the AG of California has consoled ACORN that O’Keefe is the one that’s really in trouble–I’m pissed! They want to convert us to a one party system and punish political adjutants? I’m pissed!
Axeman on November 12, 2009 at 6:06 PM
I must be the only cynic left that figured a sex tape was only a matter of time back during the whole pageant fiasco. I said to my wife I said, you wait, a sex tape is coming!
I’m surprised it took this long.

Wish she’d just go away. She’s pretty, but not incredibly intelligent. She’s hurting the Right.
jediwebdude on November 12, 2009 at 6:10 PM
I don’t care if she is a total porn star, she is not a hypocrite unless she marries another woman.
I feel sorry for her, she is young and doesn’t realize the machine against her…the left must destroy her. She has made mistakes…she is young and foolish…who hasn’t done stupid things? Who hasn’t denied doing stupid things because you are afraid people will think less of you?
Conservative Voice on November 12, 2009 at 6:11 PM
She’s very hot. But that was quite strange and awkward If that got her flustered, she might want to step out of the spotlight for a while. If it was choreographed, she needs a better PR person.
johnnynucleo on November 12, 2009 at 6:11 PM
Not to defend her, but I’m fairly certain what she meant by that was that he was asking questions that they’d agreed were off limits and therefore was being inappropriate, not that the questions themselves were disgusting.

jediwebdude on November 12, 2009 at 6:10 PM
How is she hurting the right? Because she isn’t perfect? You are believing the lie that only the pure and chaste can make comments on morality.
Conservative Voice on November 12, 2009 at 6:12 PM
I’m not. Dude, she’s a hot girl. I doubt I’ll ever get tired of hot girls.
I saw the whole pageant live. I mentioned it here even before anyone else saw it because I thought the deshevelled look on Hilton’s face was priceless after the answer.
After it blew up, I still maintained that her opinion is not more important than anyone else because she is a beauty pageant. She took what they gave her and ran with it.
I hope her book does well. I hope she has a successful career in whatever she does. I don’t understand why people are upset or disappointed at this girl who hasn’t done anything wrong. Larry King wanted her on for T and A.
Whatever, she’s not playing victim. She’s telling her story. In a book. . .
ThackerAgency on November 12, 2009 at 6:15 PM
Isn’t the real story that a “nobody” snubbed the great Larry King on his own show?
Hog Wild on November 12, 2009 at 6:18 PM
As I have said before, a man is a fool to fight for the conservative cause. They will not stand by you when the other side goes outside the bounds of polite society to destroy you–instead they will only look at every character flaw they can find to justify the damage control effort.
King broke an agreement. Unacceptable, and he is not a man of honor I would have anything to do with. TMZ should never have recieved the video, and then should never have mentioned it–instead should have returned it. In a just world, every peccadillo of theirs needs to be exposed, so that they understand those that cannot grant clemency to others will receive none themselves.
I’m afraid that we are going to have to embrace the world of the Mafia–you hit ours, we hit yours back in the exact same way–for it would seem to be the only way that politics is going to get back to the level of “ain’t beanbag” (i.e., we oppose you, deal with it) instead of the current “Thunderdome” level of social death and ostracism for the loser (usually the conservative).
Good time to start a private eye agency for those wanting to earn cash. There will be work for you to do, because it is time to play Global Thermonuclear War.
Horatius on November 12, 2009 at 6:18 PM
She may not hurt the right, but neither should she be held up as a standard bearer. Her book cover profile photo begs us to think of her as courageous and she’s holding herself out as one who has a profound message. No so much, IMHO. I think her light has begun to flicker.
johnnynucleo on November 12, 2009 at 6:19 PM
This ditz needs to go quietly into the night. She had a small window of opportunity to take advantage of that idiot Perez Hilton and make a (maybe) more than 15 minute bit of fame for herself. Too bad she revealed herself to be nothing more than your average everyday skanky politician:
“I did NOT have sex with that woman”
I don’t even like Sean Hannity and I feel sorry for him for sticking up for this broad- his endorsement of her will dog him for years.

I have not seen this, and no AP I wasn’t three sheets to the wind last night. As you’ve might have gathered from their ratings, there aren’t many people who watch CNN.
As for CP, whatever.
Erich66 on November 12, 2009 at 6:22 PM
It’s like I’m watching Rick Sanchez on CNN reading this headline. Meltdown? I didn’t see a meltdown. I saw a very liberal Larry King asking Prejean the same question over and over and over after she politely told him, “I’m not going to be able to talk about that, so I’m just letting you know that ahead of time.” How many times can you tell somebody what happened in mediation was confidential? And the other thing; He started taking phone calls, Larry was taking calls (first caller? a gay man — can you say, “SETUP!!”) which, according to Carrie was in direct violation of the agreement her Publicist made with Larry King’s Producer. She wasn’t supposed to take calls, just talk with Larry. Whether you like Carrie or not, CNN was trying to trip her up. That’s why she was upset, Rick.
apacalyps on November 12, 2009 at 6:27 PM
God, I hope you’re being sarcastic. I think you get the “hypocrite” tag even if you JUST skank yourself out with boob jobs paid for by the pageant system, and then you try to sell yourself as a conduit of morality, and oh, whoops- forgot about that truly idiotic sextape you sent off to a guy with the morals of a snake. This is a trashy girl who wanted to be famous at any cost, she just jumped on the “conservative” bus when it suited the situation.

Face it, the media treats her like shit. Can you really blame her for doing what she did?
DethMetalCookieMonst on November 12, 2009 at 6:33 PM
Which of course she never did. Never during this entire process has she ever said she’s a “conduit of morality” or anything even remotely close to that. The closest she ever came was in claiming her morality tells her that marriage should be “opposite” marriage, but she didn’t go any further than that.
I’m not a fan or hers or anything but this hypocrite meme is nonsense.
Esthier on November 12, 2009 at 6:34 PM
22 years old, huh?
Well, if she is going to wade into the deep end, she needs to learn to swim. Larry King, Chris Matthews, and all the others have the situation sandbagged. You go into these on the losing side as soon as you show up. Unless, you are a tough, clear thinking, hard-nosed type like a Buckley, Hansen, or Steyn, you best stay away.

I caught that; it was hilarious. I still defend Prejean’s right to express a viewpoint without being slimed, but she apparently doesn’t know when to let it go.

King did the bait and switch most of the media does and I applaud Ms. Prejean for not falling for it.
She was booked on the show to talk about her new book, yet Mr. King and his guest caller decided that was not important and instead wanted her to talk about a lawsuit, which she stated she can not by law.
What really got her pissed and why she left is apparently she let both the producers and Mr. King know this advance and they agreed to not bring it up based on her statements, yet the minute she got on air they did it any way and dropped any and all pretense about this being an interview about her book.

mr.blacksheep on November 12, 2009 at 7:04 PM
But, she did fall for it, Jeff.
Either her, or her publicist, should know that leftist hacks such as Larry King will consciously lie in order to smear a conservative on live television.
Moreover, if that is indeed what transpired, why didn’t she say on live tv, “ladies and gentleman, Mr. King and I had an agreement that certain topics would not be discussed, Mr. King has just violated that agreement. You, sir, are a liar and this interview is over.” Then, take off the mike and go home. The look on his face on live television, would have been priceless.

Larry King looks like the walking dead. Regardless, Prejean is only making the rounds to hawk her book, and apparently still good press. Go girl!
Nalea on November 12, 2009 at 7:07 PM
And this is wrong. As usual, you’re looking at it all wrong. You ASSUME she was or is a Christian. Let me tell you something. If you’re was having pre-marital sex with men you don’t know, posing nude, and walking around in seductive outfits for money there is a good chance that you’re NOT a Christian. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out! So it’s building a straw man and tearing it down when you say, “She is a conservative and a Christian,” and then to go on a rant about how hypocritical Christians are.
It highyl doubt Carrie was a Christian when she was doing all these things. She looks like millions of others who go to church and don’t know the Lord. They think they’re saved, but they’re not. they haven’t been taugh repentance. I’m not sure Carrie is a Christian right now, but I tell you something, God is getting her ATTENTION with this embarrassment.
Now, listen to me you who are reading. Jesus died on the cross for you and the Bible says just asking God for forgiveness won’t help you. You’ve gotta repent. Turn from your sins and put your trust in Jesus Christ. OK. You’ve gotta trust in Him and stop sinning. Trust in Him as your Lord and Saviour, that means your Boss. And when you do that you’ll be born again, and God will give you a new heart, new desires, and you’ll believe God’s Word and you’ll tremble at God and you won’t see Him as just being the God of forgiveness. You’ll see Him as a God of holiness, a God of justice, a God of truth. Probably one of the greatest sins you and I can commit is to make a god up in our minds. It’s called idolatry. When we make a god we feel comfortable with and I’m afraid for Carri that’s what she’s done, and I don’t want her to go to hell. So you who are reading and Carrie, don’t trust in your own righteousness, trust in Jesus, OK. Thank you.

no I wasn’t being sarcastic. Obviously you don’t know what hypocrisy is.

Thank you for being the definer of what it means to be a Christian…now I am being sarcastic. Being a Christian doesn’t mean you don’t make mistakes…it simply means you believe in Christ, and that when you do mess up…which we all do…you believe in the principle of repentance.
So sick and tired of the holier than thous…someone mentioned that it is Carrie that is ruining Conservatism…I would say its people like you and others who have no concept of what it means to be a Christian, but are the first to pick up a stone to throw.

I said no such thing. The Bible has the answer. Not me. Show me where I’m wrong. Pick any of my words and show me.
Did you read what I said or are you just talking to hear yourself speak? What part of “Jesus died on the cross for you and the Bible says just asking God for forgiveness won’t help you. You’ve gotta repent. Turn from your sins and put your trust in Jesus Christ. OK. You’ve gotta trust in Him and stop sinning.” What part of that is wrong?
You must be sick of yourself then because nothing I’ve said is out of line with Scripture. Anybody can believe God exists. You’ve got to repent, turn from your sins and put your faith in Jesus. That’s doesn’t mean you won’t sin again, it means we try not to. When do slip up we are forgiven thank the Lord.
