Meghan McCain: Of course conservative women face a double standard

posted at 10:00 pm on November 12, 2009 by Allahpundit

C’mon, you know I had to post it. Meggie Mac — on the Factor? Talking about Sarahcuda? If O’Reilly had worked in an atheism angle, this would be an out-of-body experience.

I hope/assume she’s going to get some (very grudging) respect for defending right-wing women. Don’t let me down. Exit quotation: “Through it all, the example both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin set is so admirable.”

You’re right. She’s more of a rhino. As in rhinoceros.

DanSC on November 12, 2009 at 11:59 PM

Sorry, but too many lectures in the past to conservatives from Meghan McCain (and John) make me past caring what either of them has to say. She’s another moderate/lib (your choice) who wants to be liked and be popular with the libs; like father, like daughter.

beachgirlusa on November 12, 2009 at 11:59 PM

oh GAWWWWWWD I thought part of the deal between Allah and MegaMac getting back together and making up on Twitter included him never posting about her again, since she gets so hurt and offended by all the fat jokes?

How would she know? Does she know some conservative women?

I can only assume you’re very young and very naive, no offense intended because I really believe you mean well.

beachgirlusa on November 13, 2009 at 12:07 AM

funny how meghan mccain has a problem with how women are treated, then makes uniformed comments about NIAF and their stance on Sopranos. She inferred they didn’t say anything about it.

In fact, as a member of NIAF, I know very well that we held symposiums on the whole topic:

http://www.niaf.org/news/index.asp?id=69

but of course, meghan mccain lives in her own universe.

personally, i’m not offended by making fun of italians, but that’s not the point. meghan is uniformed and egocentric.

Vincenzo on November 13, 2009 at 12:09 AM

One of these days Ed, instead of the besmitten AllahPundit, is going to post a Megaham McCain thread, and the shock will kill us all.

M. McCain & 0′Reilly: The conjunction of two of the most visible and obnoxious Populists masquerading as conservatives in America….. We are lucky that their spheres of vacuousness didn’t absorb each other and become a super-black hole, swallowing the entire earth.

Question: How do you get Meghan “RINO Jr” McCain to shut up?

Answer: Throw her a box of donuts.

Sounded more like an offhand comment on her part than some kind fiercely held opinion. I doubt O’Reilly told her ahead of time that he was going to discuss the NIAF.

Not all of us keep informed on the stated positions of the millions of interest groups in the country. I didn’t know the NIAF’s position on the Sopranos either.

Allahpundit, I think Republican Meghan McCain did just fine on the O’Reilly Show. She defended conservative women, said they are subject to a double standard and also said she is a Republican.

What is not fine are some of the comments in this thread. People, John McCain is NOT a RINO. HIs voting record historically has been moderately conservative and this year is very conservative. McCain voted AGAINST every Obama bailout bill. McCain voted AGAINST every Obama deficit spending bill, denouncing the multi-trillion dollar deficit spending as “generational theft,” a phrase thereafter used by Sean Hannity and more recently by Rush Limbaugh. McCain voted AGAINST the confirmations of tax cheat Geithner, radical pro-abortion advocate Sebellius, leftist Kagan and transnational legal theorist Koh to their respective positions in the Obama Administration. McCain voted AGAINST the confirmation of Sotomayer to the U.S. Supreme Court. McCain’s OPPOSITION to ObamaCare has been so vociferous that the New York Times has accused McCain of “throwing bombs” on the subject. McCain has attacked the Obama Administration for its failure to support the Iranian dissidents and has called for the Obama Administration to send the number of troops requested by General McChrystal. McCain has also announced that he is opposed to this year’s Democrat cap and trade bill. McCain now has put a hold on SEIU’s Becker and has introduced legislation to stop the Government takeover of the internet in name of net neutrality. And do I need to remind us all that he was the one who brought Sarah Palin to the limelight?

Or…not. Women come in all sizes, in case you haven’t seen them walking around, you know, doing things in society. There is no perfect size. The skinniest girl could be the most unhealthy while a more rotund, shapely woman (a la Megs) could be active and have healthier organs, etc. It’s science, man. I’ll agree that obesity is a whole other category of “sick” but Megs is certainly not there. She’s got a lot of crappy opinions but being unattractive isn’t one of her flaws.

Phil Byler on November 13, 2009 at 5:20 AM

You need to change your meds. McAmnesty is a liberal. He doesn’t even make it all the way right to RINO. On many issues Captain Amnesty has bee on the left’s side.

The only thing he’s been against is porkulus, and if he had been elected the dems would have overridden his veto as well he knew.

Thats why he lost the election. Real conservatives refused to choose between two democrats. His daughter is more liberal than he is.

The other posters are correct to slam her, given her lefty positions on a variety of issues.

Meghan McCain wouldn’t be able to recognize a right-wing woman if she was introduced to that woman as being right-wing. She really is that dim a bulb and the sooner she stops pretending that she is a voice for her generation the better.

Put another way, Meghan McCain is to political commentary what Taco Bell is to fine dining.

highhopes on November 13, 2009 at 7:27 AM

Phil Byler on November 13, 2009 at 5:20 AM

John McCain is most definitely a RINO. He spends so much time voting with the Democrats they’ve all but given him a desk on their side of the chamber. But that he is a political traitor is really beside the point.

John McCain lost all credibiilty with me due to to his six-year long temper tantrum against the Bush administration because he (McCain) lost the 2000 nominiation. He openly considered joining John Kerry as the VP/SECDEF in his administration. He has thwarted qualified jurists from getting the nomination because the Dems objected. He tried to push no-strings-attached amnesty on the nation and he did push unconstititutional provisions into CFR. In short, John McCain is no political hero and the sooner he goes away the better. If his insipid moron of a daughter goes with him, all the better.

She used to be attractive, actually, during her father’s campaign, but she’s not anymore. Even her physical attractiveness is just hair-extensions, etc.

McCain is one of the most empty headed talking heads I have ever seen. Like our President, she says what she needs to say to whom she is speaking at any time to make herself seem…cool. That’s the operative word, “cool.” I would also love it someone told her she is not an actor in “Valley Girls.”

Many Republicans of the 21st century are really the embodiment of the Democrats of the 1960s.

I have no problem with people taking issue with what Meghan McCain says, but the judgements about her appearance are unnecessary and cruel.

Why are women held to the Hollywood standard (which is mostly fake, a combination of starvation and surgical enhancement) while men are taken more seriously in politics regardless of their looks, and for what? Having a penis?

And, conservative women are attacked by feminists for protecting the unborn, which can be boiled down women attacking other women for having maternal instincts that are biologically based. It’s unbelievable.

“Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, except backwards and in high heels.”

Fallon on November 13, 2009 at 10:35 AM

I think Meg’s cute, too, and don’t find her weight an issue either–I’m betting there are quite a few of us who have absolutely no room a’tall to talk about that in a critical way. In any event, it’s a petty thing to get on someone about–we can’t all be Jeri Thompson.

She certainly does need to grow up, though. If she wants to be taken seriously, she needs to conduct herself seriously, which she doesn’t.

Bob's Kid on November 13, 2009 at 10:37 AM

O’Reilly and McCain deserve each other. Both act like they’re conservative, but they’re really just moderates who are afraid to take a position on most serious issues.

Oh sure, Bill can oppose corrupt judges. Bully for him! If he still can’t make up his mind about government healthcare, he’s a few bricks short.

Laura Inrgaham was on last night, and all Bill could do was cackle about Nancy Pelosi selling herself to pass the health care bill. He’s perfectly willing to avoid the truth, in favor of a cheap laugh.
