Video: Lou Dobbs quits CNN

posted at 8:20 pm on November 11, 2009 by Allahpundit

Verrrrry curious. His contract’s not up; he negotiated a release with management, effective … immediately. What’s going on? The cryptic money line:

Some leaders in the media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and engage in constructive problem-solving.

Fox denies having talked to Dobbs, but he and Roger Ailes had a confab over dinner in September. Ailes’s game is straightforward: Boost Fox Business’s profile by bringing in big-name stars like Imus and John Stossel — and Dobbs. That has to be what this is about, no? Or is Dobbs thinking … bigger?

Exit quotation from an amusingly pissy TNR, shivering at the prospect of a Beck/Dobbs convergence at top-rated FNC: “By keeping Dobbs on CNN–where he had about 650,000 viewers–Klein was protecting the rest of us. Consider CNN like a quarantine for dangerously demagogic talk show hosts.”

Blowback

With Anita Dunn finally quitting, Dobbs may be the new White House Communications Director.

Janeane Garofalo to get his spot?

I used to walk into waiting rooms and all that was on was CNN. Now it’s 99% Fox News, Anyone else notice this. Another sign that keeps hope alive.

donh525 on November 11, 2009 at 9:10 PM

Wow, Dobbs was one of the few shows I still watched on CNN. It will be funny if Fox picks him up and makes him a star again, he is a good man.

Anne is ok, she is thoughtful, and wants to learn, the problem with Anne is her seriously half-baked ideas.

She needs a good basic course in conservative ideas, then she will begin to see the light. Turn off Oprah and Phil, Anne, and get hooked on National Review and the American Enterprise magazines, then you’ll start to see what we are all talking about.

Am I reading Dobbs’ vague reasons for leaving right as…his bosses wanted him to be an unapologetic Obama shill?

JetBoy on November 11, 2009 at 8:38 PM

That’s pretty much the impression I got too. No clue if it’s true but that’s what seemed to come across to this average viewer.

I was thinking Dobbs for a Fox Biz News ringer, CNBC is tottering, the free trader types are sick of being muzzled or told to take a chill pill, Santelli & Bartiromo is all that holds em up. CNN’s got nuttin on the Biz angle but Dobbs, so its a natural for Fox Biz.

But if Dobbs could muscle out Shep it’d be fot the good, unless they could swing the hottie Bartiromo! Mna she’s left me just gaping, for what, a decade? I just have a thing for brunettes, they slay me everytime!

Archimedes on November 11, 2009 at 9:18 PM

Ha. If the left is convinced they have the winning argument, why are they always so scared of people hearing the alternative?

Because the left is built upon lies. To attack any of the lies erodes the foundation of the left. That is exactly why the left is terrified that the hoi polloi will learn that everything the left is, is built on a foundation of lies. Sooner or later, what is built on lies will be exposed and will take the left back to hell, from which it sprang.

masterofelke on November 11, 2009 at 9:18 PM

Seems more likely that he is reacting to the shooting at his home.

At some point, it is simply no longer worth it to some people. Maybe Lou has had enough. Or maybe he is in the process of moving and he is going to pop up on Fox Business in January.

I have noticed this too. It was weird walking into McDonalds one day and seeing Bill O on the big screen tv’s they had in there.

Brat4life on November 11, 2009 at 9:20 PM

Yeah Dobbs is a good man. I think he expects or had high hopes that Obama would change things for the better and now looks severely pissed about what’s happened.

But I hope he doesn’t go to Fox business. Not nearly enough people would see him rip Obama a new one.
It would be like him going to satellite radio.
Fox business got Imus, but Imus’ audience is 99% radio.

If he goes to Fox I hope it’s FNC.
Whatever he does, good for him on leaving CNN and good luck to him.

I am usually fairly vigilant on troll-patrol, but I gotta go with Liam on Anninca She doesn’t strike me as a true “concern troll”, more akin to a recovering liberal. Kinda like Robin of Berkley who now writes over at American Thinker. Besides Anninca adds flavor to the mix, isn’t hostile, and at least has reasoned arguements. Misguided or not.

Anninca is always welcome as far as I am concerned.

Archimedes on November 11, 2009 at 9:24 PM

donh525 on November 11, 2009 at 9:26 PM

AnninCA on November 11, 2009 at 8:27 PM

Then he is a “boring” man with much substance. We need boring leaders, with character and convictions which favor U.S. Americans.

Ann you are either naive, or the biggest phony on HA. I wager on the latter.

Schadenfreude on November 11, 2009 at 9:26 PM

What is Dobbs position on climate change, which he referenced? That one concerns me, since the only ones who mention it, believe it, and think we need to mangle our economy to change it. If he were to run for office, and held that position, I think that would hurt him. At least, I still hope it would hurt a politician.

AnotherOpinion on November 11, 2009 at 9:27 PM

That NPR piece needs to be framed in its entirety, heh. How I rejoice in their realistic agony.

They hate and dismiss FOX, until they credit it as their albatross.

Schadenfreude on November 11, 2009 at 9:28 PM

Stuart Varney told CNN to stuff it after he was mocked by management for wearing ashes on his forehead on an Ash Wednesday. Lou probably wore some red, white and blue on Veterans’ Day, got some negative feedback from the pinkos running CNN and he probably, finally told them to go to hell.

I see a genuine mind and heart in her, and I’ve been trying a long time to show her what I believe, what the best people here are into. At long last, Ann is seeing us as we are! Her heart, which isn’t far from the rest of us, is approaching.

I want that so bad, and fear that pushing her away will destroy so much.

Thank you again for trusting me.

After the laundry list of issues got capped by that statement, I doubt he’ll be on FNC. Unless, God forbid, Neil Cavuto’s health has taken a drastic and sudden turn for the worse, I think this is Mr. Dobbs Goes to Washington. Chris Dodd, watch out.

huckleberryfriend on November 11, 2009 at 10:07 PM

Wow, I just started watching Fox. I like Shep much better than the other network news people.

He did a fab job on the Ft. Hood story. He really should be out there more, doing real stories. That’s his forte.

AnninCA on November 11, 2009 at 8:36 PM

Joke post? Or you’re a liberal right? No wonder you like Shep. Shep is nothing but a reader of a teleprompter, that is all. He does no real reporting and asks no penetrating questiong that haven’t already been written on the script for him. He is an empty suit prone to throw tantrums now and then.

His coverage of Fort Hood was horrid. He refused to accept even the possiblity of Islamist terrorist. He bought into the “stress” crap and that he cracked and killed 13 soldiers simply because he did not want to be deployed. He is an idiot.

He also went off on a Fox News correspondent, Shannon Bream, for interviewing Crhistie during the election but not interviewing Corzine when she made it clear that Corzine was not doing interviews with Fox. Shep seems to think that if you can’t get an interview with both candidates, even though one is intentionally avoiding you, then you shouldn’t do any interviews period. Where did he learn that in Journalism school?

The last time he was out reporting on the street was a disaster. During Katrina he proclaimed that New Orleans had been spared…but the storm was not even over yet! The information was not all in and he embarassed the network. how did he compensate for this grave error? He went nuclear on everyone he could think of to deflect attention from himself, going off about the incompetence of FEMA and everyone else yet he misread the situation even worse than they did.

The guys a joke. I liked him back when the Fox Report was more of a Tabloid TV News Show like the old Inside Edition days but once he tried to get serious it went downhill fast.

On the day of, he never said his name. Now he claimed it was because Fox was waiting for the Pentagon to officially confirm it, but I find it a coincedence that only minutes after Baier took over the name Malik Nidal Hasan was finally uttered on Fox News.

Beleive me, I defended Shep that day so I remember it well. I was willing to let his refusal to say the name slide but his insistence of following the “stress” storyline days later after contrary evidence was revealed is inexcusable and my days of defending Shep on any level are over. He is just a bad reporter. Calling out Shannon Bream and ignoring the important questions about exactly who Hasan is was a miscarriage of journalism.

And I might get Troll cooties since I haven’t been inoculated either. I am getting my shots toward the end of the week. :)

I heard the government ran out of troll shots and the rest won’t be ready until the end of December…

Lou Dobbs opposses amnesty for illegals, agaisnt gun control and is pro-choice. Agreement on 2 out of 3 issues is not bad. At least we agree on some issues unlike Dede Scuzzyflavor.

Isn’t he from California? I really think that he is planning to run for office

Dobbs Excoriates Obama for Double Standard:

The above is most likely what led to Dobbs firing/leaving from CNN. As the following story details Dobbs was not liked by CNN because he dared express his opinion. They made several attempts to contain him but he used his Radio Show to say what he could not on TV and refereed to his Radio show on TV and his website. I have seen CNN yank him off the air during commercials when he started telling the truth about Obama. Dobbs talked tonight about the following group that was trying to get him banned from CNN guess they succeeded.

More recently, Mr. Dobbs’ views on immigration provoked a protest by Hispanic groups. Members of the groups complained that CNN was allowing Mr. Dobbs “to spread lies and misinformation about us each night.”

Wednesday evening, the advocacy group Presente.org, which had called on CNN to fire Mr. Dobbs, declared a “victory.”

“Our contention all along was that Lou Dobbs — who has a long record of spreading lies and conspiracy theories about immigrants and Latinos — does not belong on the ‘most trusted name in news,’” Roberto Lovato, a co-founder of Presente.org, said in a statement. “We are thrilled that Dobbs no longer has this legitimate platform from which to incite fear and hate.”

What is so strange about the Hispanic groups trying to get him off the air is the fact that he is married to a Latina. WTH?

I used to walk into waiting rooms and all that was on was CNN. Now it’s 99% Fox News, Anyone else notice this. Another sign that keeps hope alive.

Can’t wait until FNC takes over the airport TVs.

What has been really depressing to me is to walk into Army Lodging lobbies and find CNN STILL on! I would think the Army would like to be tuned to the only channel that gives them a fair shake, but no…

Going Beyond and the lack of true representation stuff sure screams public office.

I think he’ll take on Gilibrand as an Independent. He lives in Sussex County NJ so he’s practically a New Yorker anyway. He probably owns property in Manhattan already. Is he close to Bloomberg?

Dobbs should go to Fox and Fox should FIRE Geraldo, whom they should have fired when he threatened Michelle Malkin.

nelsonknows on November 12, 2009 at 2:31 AM

Wasn’t Dobbs on Fox the other day as a guest? In his area, their is no doubt he is Pro Free Market. He opened up and you could tell he doesn’t like Obama at all.

Ed Laskie on November 12, 2009 at 3:53 AM

I would much rather see Dobbs go to Fox than see him pull a Perot.

Allah Pundit links Dobbs resignation with Sarah Palin resignation.
Five stories to follow.

Maybe he’s thinking about running for the Senate. Where does he live?

huckleberryfriend on November 11, 2009 at 10:07 PM

I believe he’s a Jersey boy……..Maybe Christie has a spot for him in mind, like Senator.

CNN couldn’t stand the heat from the Hispanics…it is just that simple. Leftists can’t stand the heat so they cave in to them…it is consistent.
That is why they are afraid to talk about the shootings as being terrorists…they are afraid of the backlash. Even if they just discuss it, bring it up, ponder it, they are attacked viciously and they can’t stand up to the attack.
Which makes Fox all the more interesting, and the one news show that leads the charge.
The MSM, like CNN, stand behind the charging battalion of journalists at Fox. And if Fox gets beaten back, then the MSM retreats with minor wounds…but if FOX storms the hills like they did on ACORN, then the MSM just follows and mops up. Pretending they were in the battle, with a few still hiding, like Gibson.
They are the ones that are like the civilians in the barracks complaining that the men in the field get all the credit and honors.

Absolutely, Geraldo and O’Reilly defense of him was low class, not even worthy of MSNBC…
