Video: Lou Dobbs quits CNN
posted at 8:20 pm on November 11, 2009 by Allahpundit
Verrrrry curious. His contract’s not up; he negotiated a release with management, effective … immediately. What’s going on? The cryptic money line:
Some leaders in the media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and engage in constructive problem-solving.
Fox denies having talked to Dobbs, but he and Roger Ailes had a confab over dinner in September. Ailes’s game is straightforward: Boost Fox Business’s profile by bringing in big-name stars like Imus and John Stossel — and Dobbs. That has to be what this is about, no? Or is Dobbs thinking … bigger?
Exit quotation from an amusingly pissy TNR, shivering at the prospect of a Beck/Dobbs convergence at top-rated FNC: “By keeping Dobbs on CNN–where he had about 650,000 viewers–Klein was protecting the rest of us. Consider CNN like a quarantine for dangerously demagogic talk show hosts.”

Blowback

Dobbs strikes me as a good man. I am sure this was based on pinciple and character.
daesleeper on November 11, 2009 at 8:23 PM
Ha. If the left is convinced they have the winning argument, why are they always so scared of people hearing the alternative?
BadgerHawk on November 11, 2009 at 8:23 PM
I hope he ends up at Fox, but in the meantime, we’re going to have to endure the pro-illegal alien groups crowing that this is a feather in their cap.
yogi41 on November 11, 2009 at 8:25 PM
There goes the last 3 CNN viewers.
dthorny on November 11, 2009 at 8:25 PM
Good for Lou but please, don’t run for president.
txag92 on November 11, 2009 at 8:25 PM
Wow. The tears of that article sustain me.
lorien1973 on November 11, 2009 at 8:26 PM
Dobbs was obviously forced out by the vast right-wing conspiracy. There is NO other possibility.
Liam on November 11, 2009 at 8:26 PM
Well, the last life boat has left CNNTITANIC.
I think he’s gonna run for office…Senator?
SouthernGent on November 11, 2009 at 8:26 PM
There’s a few of the hosts that I wonder how they keep their jobs.
Lou was almost gone until the immigration issue got hot, wasn’t he? Then he got into the birther deal.
It’s probably just time to call it quits.
AnninCA on November 11, 2009 at 8:27 PM
See ya later Shep! Now you can practice your histrionics with Tingles and The Douche.
thomasaur on November 11, 2009 at 8:27 PM
What is this ‘CNN’ that you speak of…?
Seven Percent Solution on November 11, 2009 at 8:27 PM
Really? I think he’s pretty boring to watch.
AnninCA on November 11, 2009 at 8:27 PM
CNN = FEMA camps
Weight of Glory on November 11, 2009 at 8:27 PM
Dobbs 1
Anarchists 0
Mojave Mark on November 11, 2009 at 8:28 PM
I’ll bet Rick Sanchez takes his time slot.
yogi41 on November 11, 2009 at 8:28 PM
Hmmmm, was TMZ threatening to release the Dede Scozzafava and Lou Dobbs sex tape? She dropped out…..and now…hmm.
dthorny on November 11, 2009 at 8:28 PM
He should take Shep’s place on Fox.
farright on November 11, 2009 at 8:29 PM
It seems to me that Lou quit CNN one time before…to leave immediately sounds sort of strange.
d1carter on November 11, 2009 at 8:29 PM
Bought stock in mind bleach today, did ya?
lorien1973 on November 11, 2009 at 8:30 PM
He might, I say might, be worse than anyone on MSNBC. The guy is absolutely awful.
BadgerHawk on November 11, 2009 at 8:30 PM
…which is why he couldn’t stay at CNN…..which will now fall into an “amusingly pissy” 5th or 6th place among the 4 non-Fox networks.
dmh0667 on November 11, 2009 at 8:30 PM
CNN still has….ummm…they still have…what’s his face…you know…that other guy….uh..
Bishop on November 11, 2009 at 8:31 PM
Too late.
Proud Rino on November 11, 2009 at 8:31 PM
It’s kind of a no-brainer, from this old timer’s point of view. Dobbs is a mighty strong voice that doesn’t happen to jive with the Clinton News Network’s political philosophy, so I fully expect to hear – and quite soon – that he will join the FOXNews team. He will find a fairly friendly, welcoming audience that dwarfs his numbers at CNN, especially when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration. FOX is getting stronger and stronger….almost daily.
GoldenEagle4444 on November 11, 2009 at 8:31 PM
Did he jump or was he pushed?
ncborn on November 11, 2009 at 8:33 PM
HHmmm talent leaving CNN taking their audience with them, what’s a CEO to do? Why not unlease those progressives, and really make news.
Skandia Recluse on November 11, 2009 at 8:34 PM
A Dobbs-Smith switch would be so sweet and so apt.
PaCadle on November 11, 2009 at 8:35 PM
I would see Dobbs if he goes to Fox News! Please let this happen Ailes!
cubachi on November 11, 2009 at 8:35 PM
Well, ya know, ’cause CNN is so “middle of the road.”
John the Libertarian on November 11, 2009 at 8:35 PM
Wow, I just started watching Fox. I like Shep much better than the other network news people.
He did a fab job on the Ft. Hood story. He really should be out there more, doing real stories. That’s his forte.
AnninCA on November 11, 2009 at 8:36 PM
They’re funny that way, aren’t they?
Purple Fury on November 11, 2009 at 8:37 PM
This was long overdo,Lou Dobbs has seen the light!!
canopfor on November 11, 2009 at 8:37 PM
He’s definitely not partisan, but he’s often wrong when he rants about “the war on the middle class” and corporations shipping jobs overseas.
OscarSchneegans on November 11, 2009 at 8:37 PM
Why am I not surprised?
Buford Gooch on November 11, 2009 at 8:37 PM
An attempt at mocking the media on the obsession with Carrie PreJean.
Boot Shep Smith.
dthorny on November 11, 2009 at 8:37 PM
The old staples of the news are going out. I remember Dobbs from long ago. Don’t quote me on this, but if I recall he was on Fox Channel 5 out of NYC before there was cable TV, when Fox was a minor local station.
Out with the old, in with the new. It’s inevitable. Which also means, somewhere down the line, other libs are going off the air.
Liam on November 11, 2009 at 8:37 PM
Am I reading Dobbs’ vague reasons for leaving right as…his bosses wanted him to be an unapologetic Obama shill?
JetBoy on November 11, 2009 at 8:38 PM
I’m guessing Sarah (and others…Beck?) have something up their sleeve, and Dobbs is part of it.
Purple Fury on November 11, 2009 at 8:38 PM
Is he going to Fox or going Perot?
Mr. Joe on November 11, 2009 at 8:39 PM
That seems to sum it up.
Buford Gooch on November 11, 2009 at 8:39 PM
AS long as we’re speculating…
I have heard Dobbs muse about running for public office. Not president, of course.
Where is he from?
marybel on November 11, 2009 at 8:39 PM
somethings up… house shot at last week, steps down this week. Just seems odd.
Indian Outlaw on November 11, 2009 at 8:39 PM
I had to LOL at this. Could you see Beck or Dobbs as president and watch all the lefties’ heads explode. That would be a sight to see.
Brat4life on November 11, 2009 at 8:40 PM
The last reason to watch CNN is now gone……
Ha Ha!
NeoKong on November 11, 2009 at 8:40 PM
I think the shot took place some time ago, but he just announced it a week or so ago.
Buford Gooch on November 11, 2009 at 8:40 PM
Hell
Liam on November 11, 2009 at 8:40 PM
That TNR piece is just hillarious.
Big Orange on November 11, 2009 at 8:41 PM
The line of people aiming to boot out Obama gets longer by the day.
pedestrian on November 11, 2009 at 8:41 PM
Shep can be his lapdog, with those cute pink ribbons in his hair. Geraldo can be his undercover investigator, performed while never coming out from under those covers. Go Fox team!
GnuBreed on November 11, 2009 at 8:41 PM
Really! Watch CNN a lot?
donh525 on November 11, 2009 at 8:42 PM
That would be the best day ever!

That’s what I thought. Thanks.
JetBoy on November 11, 2009 at 8:43 PM
This is sorta a victory for the TRUTH!!|
I`ve watched Lou now and then, and Dobbs seems to have taken
a stand, and will not be part of the forever orgasmic media
Obama perpetual spin!!
Great to see,that 1 journalist refuse`s to be corrupt,and
will not tote the line on Liberal Propaghanda!!!!!!
Another loss for Team Socialist Liberals!!!
The TRUTH IS GETTING OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll never forget listening live to CNN during the first Gulf War when Bernie Shaw crawled under the desk in his hotel room in Bagdad when the cruise missiles started to come in.
Ah, memories.
justltl on November 11, 2009 at 8:47 PM
It’s obvious that he will run for office. Question is which one?
Even though he is from CNN I guess “immigration Czar” would be out of the question…. :)
AnthonyK on November 11, 2009 at 8:47 PM
How many people read TNR? 10? 100? Good lord that post was humorless and mean spirited. The irony, it was hilarious!
daesleeper on November 11, 2009 at 8:47 PM
Texas.
And Kay Bailey Hutchison is apparently still on track to retire later this year.
13blackcats on November 11, 2009 at 8:49 PM
That TNR article has only managed to draw two comments, and one of them is making fun of spelling errors in the article.
BadgerHawk on November 11, 2009 at 8:49 PM
Ann has been much on point for a few weeks, as far from being a liberal as I am. Anyone who knows me is well aware I’m a die-hard Conservative.
If Ann were out of line, I’d make sure to the entire planet I believe that.
Liam on November 11, 2009 at 8:49 PM
I wrote to CNN around that time that they were doomed to failure if they continued their anti-American, propagandist ways.
justltl on November 11, 2009 at 8:49 PM
Not really. Actually, I catch very few of the punditry shows.
Once in a blue moon. They all strike me as goofy.
AnninCA on November 11, 2009 at 8:49 PM
I called into Lou’s radio show in our primaries and got on the air
he was very nice to me I was calling in to support Hillary :)
we discussed Obamas visit to Wall St that day (march 2008)Credit Suisse no press and I was mad that he had compared the Dem primary to the Bataan Death March-for real!
I said Obama was a snob and an elitist
he said Obama isnt rich
I said rich has nothing to do with it
I used Warren Buffet as an example of someone who is salt of the earth kind of guy even though loaded
he agreed with that
hope Lou continues to have a successful career
ginaswo on November 11, 2009 at 8:51 PM
If Dobbs does happen to throw his hat in the presidential race, you can bet he will do one thing for sure – Elect a Democrat to the presidency.
Didn’t people learn from the Ross Perot nightmare? How many more Bill Clintons and Obamas will it take for libertarians to realize that they can get more of their agenda from Republicans than Democrats?
Libertarians going third party, or even fourth party, is a sure recipe for success for Democrats.
Joe Pyne on November 11, 2009 at 8:51 PM
Strong winds of Change have been …effecting all of us” hmmmm

Turner,I heard he was coming back!!:)
canopfor on November 11, 2009 at 8:55 PM
Well played…well played. But this one was a little too obvious.
Asher on November 11, 2009 at 8:56 PM
Drop Shep, move Greta to 5, and put Beck and Dobbs in their spots. Foxnews would outperform the networks.
Phildorex on November 11, 2009 at 8:56 PM
Wouldn’t running for office be a heck of a pay cut for someone of Dobb’s talent? Yes, I think he has talent, more than Shep Smith for darn sure! Sorry AninCA.
donh525 on November 11, 2009 at 8:57 PM
Well, anyway. Lou exits, perhaps, at a good time. CNN is in deep trouble.
AnninCA on November 11, 2009 at 8:58 PM
Hey, let Ted Turner run the network again…can’t do any worse than the blundering numbskullery going on there now.
StevefromMKE on November 11, 2009 at 8:58 PM
Guess he’s heading back to space.com.
sdb on November 11, 2009 at 8:58 PM
It was just a matter of time. Just when you thought CNN’s ratings could not get any worse…
Philly on November 11, 2009 at 8:58 PM
Lou should write a ‘Tell All’ book about the behind the scenes efforts to push the Liberal agenda on the American and World citizenry using the main stream media as a weapon, naming names of course…
… he can join Sarah Palin on her book tour and rake up the cash!
Seven Percent Solution on November 11, 2009 at 8:59 PM
repost from Headlines
He may have been thinking of leaving for some time.
But the unmitigated bias that has been on display about the Fort Hood terrorist not to call it terror, and how they bent over backward to not call it terror and danced around the word like it was worse than the murder act itself, may have pushed him to the conclusion sooner.
He still has his radio show
Beck/Dobbs 2012
Edit/Added:
After watching the video it is clear that when he watches his own station over the last 3+ years on how hard they (MSM) was on President Bush and even when Obama is doing the same or even worse, it is like night and day. Obama can do no wrong. The overall hypocrisy is so thick one could not even wade though it. Also his house and wife getting shot at may have added to the leaving. But as long as he question with boldness he and America will be better with him than without.
tjexcite on November 11, 2009 at 8:59 PM
I’m thinking anninca is an alien, and using hot air comments to try to learn to talk like a normal earth human. She gets almost there, then has a breakdown and has to start again.
Buford Gooch on November 11, 2009 at 9:01 PM
Anne is ok, she is thoughtful, and wants to learn, the problem with Anne is her seriously half-baked ideas.
She needs a good basic course in conservative ideas, then she will begin to see the light. Turn off Oprah and Phil, Anne, and get hooked on National Review and the American Enterprise magazines, then you’ll start to see what we are all talking about.
Joe Pyne on November 11, 2009 at 9:01 PM
It’s Bush/cheney/Rove/Palin/Limbaugh/O’Reilly/Hannity/Prejean/Joe-the-Plumber/Pookie’s fault.

Sweat CNN sweat!
donh525 on November 11, 2009 at 9:02 PM
Had to fix that, princess. We both know the MSM is fullabull.
I’m just as generous as you.
Liam on November 11, 2009 at 9:02 PM
Haha, yep…
Shep had me at Katrina, he had me at Katrina…
Smith seems like he would be a good fit on one of those E.T. type shows.

When CNN has to advertise on FOX News to promote an upcoming Thanksgiving Day special…
… you know they are in trouble.
Seven Percent Solution on November 11, 2009 at 9:03 PM
Lou Dobbs seems to have a set of core principles and the courage to defend them. That is a rarity these days.
Geochelone on November 11, 2009 at 9:03 PM
I think Roger is having confabs with lots of interesting folks these days……inquiring minds want to know…..
Starlink on November 11, 2009 at 9:04 PM
NOT as generous as you, that is.
Dang! kant tipe to saav my life!

Look in the back. Under the blouse is a string with a ring on the end. That must be pulled out occasionally.
Yoop on November 11, 2009 at 9:05 PM
free trade is good, Dobbs’ gets over that and a few other things and I might watch him.
rob verdi on November 11, 2009 at 9:05 PM
My thoughts exactly. 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Hang in there AnninCA!
donh525 on November 11, 2009 at 9:05 PM
The word “jive” does not mean what you seem to think it means. The word you’re looking for is jibe. It’s only one letter different, but the change in meaning is huge.
The Monster on November 11, 2009 at 9:07 PM
Don’t sell AninCA short, okay, friends?
Don’t hurt her, either. Just asking a favour.
