Breaking: Obama rejects all current troop options on Afghanistan?
posted at 9:55 pm on November 11, 2009 by Allahpundit
Alternate headline: “Obama votes present.”
President Barack Obama does not plan to accept any of the Afghanistan war options presented by his national security team, pushing instead for revisions to clarify how and when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government, a senior administration official said Wednesday.
That push follows strong reservations about a possible troop buildup expressed by the U.S. ambassador in Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, according to a second top administration official.
The Times actually saw this coming this morning, before the national security meeting, when it quoted one participant in the meeting as saying, “He’s simply not convinced yet that you can do a lasting counterinsurgency strategy if there is no one to hand it off to.” I can only assume that means he’s leaning towards some sort of benchmark system by which progress in reducing corruption in the Afghan government and training the Afghan army will determine how many U.S. troops are deployed. The reasonable way to do that would be to give McChrystal what he wants up front and then start pulling people out if Karzai drags his feet, but that seems unlikely if The One has rejected all possible options up front. If he decides to deploy troops piecemeal, in gradual installments depending upon whether the Afghans show progress, then he runs into the problem identified by Fred Kagan here. And of course, threatening Karzai with pulling the entire force out is a non-starter. No one believes he’ll do that; the Times has an entire piece tonight devoted to calling his bluff about it. Exit question: How much longer?

Obama cannot make a decision.
To some people every decision is black or white.
To others every decision is black or white or grey.
To Obama every decision is infinitesimal shades of grey and every shade of grey must be pondered for its cause and effect.

This administration acts cowardly and is blatantly incompetent. The hand wringing president is now using his shill, Eikenberry, to generate more excuses for his inaction. We’re about to give away all that we’ve earned with our youth’s blood. The poor sick Republic is spinning down the sewer at warp speed. Thank you enlightened voters, you really stuck it to us this time.

The dude wants an exit strategy before even deciding what his policy is. What is his policy for Afghanistan? How can he decide troop deployments when he can’t or won’t articulate what his Afghanistan policy is?

Thowing in the towel or waving the white flag weren’t on the list, so the President rejected the plan.

Because experience as a Chicago street thug is so much more relevant than a career in national security policy-making.
This is a textbook case of dithering. Any strategy is long-term and the filthy lying coward in the White House wants the short-term solution that makes him look good. He’s throwing away all our investment in the region for his poll numbers. It disgusts me to no end.

This Obama guy is amazing – he waffles more than IHoP.
It’s now clear to me that this White House is driven by HATE.
Yep … and I can prove it.
He can’t make a decision to fight terrorists.
He can’t make up his mind if the Ft. Hood shooting was an act of terror.
He can’t make a decision about what to do with Iran.
He can’t make a decision about what to do with North Korea.
He can’t make up his mind on what position he should take in Honduras.
BUT …
He CAN make a decision to paint Americans protesting for less government EXTREMISTS.
He CAN make a decision to restrict the pay of capitalists who’ve earned their money legally.
He CAN make a decision to paint a white cop as a racial profiler.
He CAN make a decision to go after CIA agents who kept this nation safe for eight years.
What’s the difference between the decisisons Obama can’t make and the ones he can make?
HATRED.
He hates Americans who oppose him. Hates CIA agents that followed Bush’s orders. He has a hatred for the capitalist system and the men and women who profit from it. And he hates white cops who dare to arrest black men who deserve it.
So he has no problems making decisions against people and institutions he hates.
He doesn’t hate Iran, the NorK’s, the terrorists who attack this nation … therefore he waffles with what to do with them.
Maybe we should tell Obama that Rush Limbaugh is now the spokesman for the Taliban and maybe then … perhaps then – he’ll grow the sack necessary to deal with them?

Does anyone remember Obamas take on Afghanistan during the campaign? Over and over he said Afghanistan was the good war, Bush dropped the ball and got diverted by Iraq, Afghanistan is where Al Qaeda is (the people who attacked us on 9-11), Obama said HE KNEW HOW TO FIGHT THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN. He also said he would get Bin Laden.
Why doesn’t some genius at the RNC dig up tape of Obama saying these things and make a TV commercial? Probably afraid of being called a racist!

I am so sick of this gutless, politicizing, narcissistic President and his constant trial balloons to test public polling.
I guess we should expect no less from a President who calls Americans voicing their opinions “extremist” but won’t call an Islamic radical who guns down over 40 people one.
This wishy washy back and forth game Obama is playing solidifies the fact this man has about as much ability of being a leader as Rosie O’Donell does as a Foreign Policy expert.
Obama spends years yelling and screaming about how important winning the war in the Afghan/Pakistan theater is and how irresponsible it was to distract from that by going into Iraq ( you know….the war we won).
Told America we would not be safe until the jihadist threat was eliminated from that region.
Obama told America “elect me as President and I will win the War in Afghanistan”…you know …the “good war”.
Now that he is in charge, Obama is doing everything but lead and try to win the war.
Obama won’t even produce the resources to fund and supply HIS OWN STRATEGY THAT HE LAID DOWN IN MARCH WITH HIS OWN GENERAL.
Apparently the internal polling did not go so well with his base when the other trial ballons of “sending around 34,000 troops” hit the papers.
Well wait and see how those polls go when military officials jump ship from his surrender in Afghanistan.
Wait to see the plummet in his approval ratings when the jihadist are dancing in the streets of an overrun Afghanistan/Pakistan because Obama went from “winning the war” to “running like he!!”.
Wait to see the international community call Obama out for the lying, weak, liberal leader that he is for running from the jihadist in the “central front of the war on terror”.
Just remember liberals….it won’t be Bush’s face all over the press here and abroad while our Soldiers are being brought home under the shame of surrender.
It won’t be Bush’s face all over the press when Americans and our Soldiers ask “what the he!! did we do this for if we are just going to quit”.
Obama will own 100% of this disaster if he continues down this route of indecision and appeasement.
OBAMA IS NOTHING BUT A LYING COWARD!!!

I honestly believe that the filthy lying dithering coward is not interested in Afghanistan beyond the impact on his polling numbers. He likes spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for “date night,” flitting off to Denmark to party with Oprah, and the pomp and ceremony of his European and Asian vacations.
But, when it comes to the hard decisions that can only be made by the President, the bastard is trying to vote present. He doesn’t like the plans presented because they involve making a commitment that cannot be spun as something he inherited from GWB.

Sackett on November 12, 2009 at 8:45 AM
At least expressed a strategy. It seems to me the filthy lying dithering coward is doing things backwards. He is focused on how many troops to send and then will build a strategy based on that. McChrystal has asked for 40K troops to do the mission that Obama gave him last March. The filthy lying coward needs to either resource the strategy properly or change the strategy and he is months late in coming to a decision.

Itchee Dryback on November 12, 2009 at 8:59 AM
I would like to add to your great point of historical reference.
This is leadership:
The meeting took place in a cold, dismal room of a French barracks where very little warmth emanated from a potbellied stove. The atmosphere was grim. Present were Eisenhower, his deputy,Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder, Lieutenant General Walter Bedell Smith, the SHAEF(Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force) chief of staff, Bradley, Lieutenant General Jacob L. Devers, the Commander ground force commandere, Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery, had sent his able chief of staff, Major General Francis de Guingand.
It was quickly agreed that the Allies would stop the offensive action in all their other sectors and concentrate on blunting the German drive.
Eisenhower drew a stop line at the Meuse, beyond which there would be no further retreat. Once the German attacks were contained, the Allies would counterattack.
Eisenhower said, “George, I want you to command this move…(and make) a strong counterattack with at least six divisions. When can you start?”.
Patton replied,“As soon as you’re through with me.”
He then explained that he had left three sets of instructions with his staff and that by tlelphoning in his code word he could put any of the plans in motion at once.
“When can you attack?” Eisenhower asked.
“The morining of December 21,with three divisions,” Patton replied instantly.
Eisenhower was not amused, mistakenly assuming that Patton had picked a very inopportune moment to boast.
“Don’t be fatuous,George,” he retorted,in obvious disbelief.
“If you try to go that early, you won’t have all three divisions ready and you’ll go piecemeal. You will start on the 22d, and I want your initial blow to be a strong one!!
I’d even settle for the 23d if it takes that long to get three full divisions.”
Eisenhower, however, was dead wrong. It was not “Patton the boastful” but “Patton the student of war” at his absolute best. While others at Verdun came only with vague ideas and no specific plans, Patton had devised three plans, each tailored to meet any any contingency his superiors might direct. “this was”, as historian Martin Blumenson wrote, ” the sublime moment of Patton’s career”.
His historian J.D. Eisenhower wrote in the Bitter Woods, “witnesses to the occasion testify to the electric effect of this exchange. The prospect of relieving three divisions from the line, turning them north, and traveling over icy roads…in less than 72 hours was astonishing.”
cigar in hand, Patton. Speaking directly to Bradley, illustrated his intentions on a map.Pointing to the obvious “bulge” in the St. Vith/Bastogne sector, he said:
“Brad, the Kraut’s stuck his head in a meat grinder.”
Turning his fist in a grinding motion,he continued:
“and this time I’ve got hold of the handle.”
Of course the rest is history.
The Allies went on to defeat Germany in the Battle of the Bulge and march on to Victory from there.
Baxter Greene on November 12, 2009 at 9:08 AM
He never intended to send more troops to Afghanistan. He is the consummate liar. He said anything he thought the people wanted to hear to get elected. If he sends any troops, it will be because he sees his numbers slipping. He’s all political animal. His ideological views rule his actions. That is why his first speech after the terrorist attack at Ft. Hood was offensive, stiff and unemotional. The bottom line is he doesn’t care about the military or our troops.

Want a real Viet Nam analogy? The “Best and the Brightest” Democrats under Johnson and McNamara constantly over-ruled the military to pursue the war in a political fashion. Example? McNamara asked the Air Force to list the top 100 targets for bombing. That’s right, they started with Number 100 and worked their way up.
Prescription for defeat in any war? Let the politicians make the decisions and ignore the military professionals.

“Being president is hard“, he said. Barak Obama is not a leader. He doesn’t know how to decide, to make a choice and support it. He has been lead around by the ideas of other idealogues. He doesn’t have original thoughts, just regurgitates the ones he’s been given through those who mentored and used him (and continue to). He’s intelligent, but so deep in the ideology that he can’t think outside it. He just doesn’t know how. So how could he possibly think like a commander of armed forces?

If it wasn’t already obvious, it’s written on the wall and engraved in stone now.
America only conducts warfare one administration at a time.
9/11/01 occurred on Bush’s watch, regardless of the decades of events preceding that were made manifest on the newly elected GWB.
Our national defense in response to 9/11 is deemed limited to what Bush accomplished. Obama will permit no more national defense on his watch.
Obama’s CHANGE is to divert national policy from ANYTHING resembling Constitutional obligation.
Obama’s apologists claim that Obama means what he says while he is saying it, but not thereafter. In that, his critics would agree. Obama said it WAS a War of NECESSITY, but Afghanistan is necessarily now deemed another Bush war of choice from which Obama decides he’s obligated to withdraw. To remain in Afghanistan would require leadership that Obama knows he lacks, but won’t admit his antipathy for our Military, nor his preferential bias WITH radical Muslims. For Pantywaist Pookie, the only way to appear “strong” is to be vindictive and mean spirited to his own forces whom he betrays every day from the Oval Office. Leftists are cruel masters of avarice and sabotage, whether witnessing this President, Obama’s administration, or this Democratic Congress. The towers fell in New York on 9/11/01, Kabul fell to American led forces on 11/14/01. That’s 65 days.

Bullseye! he is not a traitor through incompetence, but a traitor with full knowledge and intent – pouring his furious malice all over our military, economy, energy, mores, American culture, society and citizenry. If anyone is naive enough to believe he doesn’t have a policy, they are sadly mistaken. His policy is that of his puppetmaster Soros, and idols by the name of Lenin, Stalin and Mao; his policy is old as the hills and deadly as it’s original author, the devil himself.
And he is carrying out his policy of the destruction of our Constitutional Republic and the subjegation of it’s people with nerves of steel – yes, he is a creepy coward, but so were the above-named tyrants of history – and Soros and the cabal of new world order billionnaires/media lefties have his back so he can confidently continue his rampage with his unbelievable, disgusting arrogance until, in the not to distant future, the USA will be left a smoking shambles, ready to be absorbed into the one world government. And this is the real pinnacle and goal of obama – Supreme Leader of ALL nations, not the embarassing and cheap stepping stone of POTUS which in his mind will be as temporary as the existence of our country itself.

I disagree with people who claim he has no balls..is a coward, etc. The audacious little prick is doing this on purpose. That takes balls, and a true believer cultish mindset that trusts in the power of his con, and that people will continue to let him get away with it as long as he throws some crumbs now and then..you know…like a moving speech or something while furrowing his brow and wagging his finger while implying his love for America.
Wake. The. F**k. UP!

Bullseye. If anyone thinks he doesn’t have a policy, one set in stone, and he is carrying it out with all haste, then they are sadly mistaken. he has a policy alright: destroy the Constitutional Republic through the destruction of the economy, military, social mores (what’s left of them)energy, business, financial structure and citizenry. his policy is old as the hills and that of his puppetmaster Soros, his idols Marx, Stalin and Mao, and it’s orginal author, the devil himself. Yes, obama is a creepy coward, but he can pour his furious malice out on every segment of our nation with fearless impunity and his trademark disgusting arrogance, because he hides behind the skirts of Soros and the cabal of new world order billionaires and their propagandist media juggarnaut. If he is allowed to continue apace, the America we know will be a smoking ash heap, ready to be absorbed into the one world government, where the liar in cheif will reign as Supreme Commander, and he can forget his degrading and embarassing stint as President of that horrid stinking oppressor that he used as a stepping stone to his glorious global leadership.
Itchee is right. WAKE UP! If we on this site don’t get it, then who will there be to tell others until the whole country is shouting it from the rooftops. It has to start with us.

How much longer depends on how long he needs to keep his leftist coalition together. Health care passes? 3 more years until next election? 7 more?

The President has decided to delay action on Marine General Alexander Vandegrift’s urgent request for immediate reinforcements for the besieged Marines at the Henderson Field airstrip.
The continuing support of the US Navy for the Marines ashore is being withheld until a potential ‘Exit Strategy’ for the current war with Japan can be detailed to the President’s satisfaction.

Dithering, inept joke of a president except the joke is on us (U.S.) This fool has NO ability, NO class, NO style and NO CLUE about ANYTHING!!! The very BEST thing that could happen is for him to be impeached and the sooner the better! A trained chimp has more ability than this chump!!!
