Scozzafava: RINOs of the world, unite!
posted at 9:18 pm on November 10, 2009 by Allahpundit
That’s the motto of David Frum’s website, if I’m not mistaken.
At her desk, with a fuzzy elephant face down on a bookshelf behind her, she recalled the exhausting end days of her campaign. Violet semicircles hung below her teary eyes as she recounted how Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and other conservative leaders excoriated her for less-than-orthodox positions on gay rights, abortion and organized labor. Her nose reddened as she recalled her abrupt exit from the special election to replace John M. McHugh, whom President Obama had appointed as secretary of the Army earlier in the year…
Scozzafava, who was stripped of her Republican leadership position in the New York State Assembly on Monday, says she has no regrets and even leaves open the possibility of running for the seat again as a Republican. She sees herself as a champion of local expertise over ideological purity.
“How can Sarah Palin come out and endorse someone who can’t answer some basic questions,” [Insert leftist snickering here. -- ed.] Scozzafava asked. “Do these people even know who they are endorsing?”
Those conservative forces now descend on Florida, where former House speaker Marco Rubio, who on Monday received the endorsement of the Club for Growth, might shove aside centrist Gov. Charlie Crist, who was once on John McCain’s short list for running mate. And Scozzafava has a warning.
“There is a lot of us who consider ourselves Republicans, of the Party of Lincoln,” she said, her face now flush. “If they don’t want us with them, we’re going to work against them.”
That was enough to drive even the normally mild-mannered Patterico to an indignant fisking. Question: Who, precisely, does she think is willing and eager to “work” with her inside the GOP to forge the new pro-choice, pro-gay-marriage, pro-union Lincoln coalition? She’s the kiss of death. If she endorsed Crist tomorrow, it’d probably peel away five percent of the conservatives who’ve stuck with him thus far. What she should do is strike while the iron is hot and cash in to whatever extent she can with leftists eager to use her as a martyr to demagogue the right. Do the whole MSNBC sob-story media tour — Shuster, Olby, Maddow — then try to wrangle a book deal about how the “conservative freak show” or whatever silenced your dissent. Be sure to omit the part where you took $900,000 of the party’s money before endorsing the Democrat. Or set yourself up as the anti-Palin, willing and able to comment on her alleged “extremism” whenever the media needs you to. One could live comfortably that way, I’d imagine.
Speaking of influential RINOs, here’s the obligatory link to PPP’s poll of Maine Republicans confirming that they pretty much hate Olympia Snowe. Her overall approval rating is fine — 51/36 — but among GOPers she’s 40/46, which makes me think it won’t be long before she has a Specter-esque “awakening.”

Why are the republicans in maine so down on Snowe? It’s not like some ultra conservative candidate will steal that seat away from the dems in the general.
It’s better to settle for something than absolutely nothing!
Leave Snowe alone!

Great observation. Lefties never make it to high school, emotionally speaking. That’s a scientific fact, and the debate about it is over. :)

Don’t all liberals?

No – 14 is at the extreme end of what they can reach. The average is closer to 6 or 7 y/o.

She wants to run as a Republican, after endorsing the Democrat, and helping the Democrat win?
Wait, let me check the Bunny Ranch website… yep, thought so.
Sorry, you can get screwed for MUCH less than $900,000; even flying first class there and back; this isn’t even close.

Maybe Dede can hook up with Ron Paulies, stage their coup and finish the GOP off, giving us complete one party rule forever.
Dede should be pleased with that since she supports that one party more than the GOP.
LewWaters on November 11, 2009 at 1:53 AM
Your name is MUD after robbing 900k from the Republican party and endorsing the Democrat!
If the RNC had any balls they would drag your ass to court for the money.
gdonovan on November 11, 2009 at 5:42 AM
What is Dede thinking? You can’t just claim your name is a verb now. Bork didn’t invent the word “Borking” himself. What a toolbox she is.

Hey, if all the Republicans just become Democrats, everybody wins! Who needs silly principles? Just win, baby!

Instead of her name becoming a verb I think it should become a noun.
Scozz-
1. an overtly shallow person who willfully accepts money, help and endorsements and then betrays the very people who helped them.
2. a person who realizes they can not win and spitefully assists the opposition or enemy
Used in a sentence:
Once Coach Smith was fired from his job, he became such a scozz and gave the team’s rival their playbook.
SEE ALSO: Benedict Arnold, Arlen Specter or Scott McClellan

She’s a verb and a noun now.
Jerome Horwitz on November 11, 2009 at 8:32 AM
Scrunt. Now there’s a noun Dede’s worthy of.
Coronagold on November 11, 2009 at 8:39 AM
Pathetic.

Why yes…..yes she is!

It’s not necessary that Republicans march lockstep on the issues of the day. But at the point where they’re willing to twist the Constitution like a pretzel, or ignore it all together… they’re Democrats.
Scozzafava isn’t a victim. The victims are the Republicans who contributed $900,000. to her campaign. She’s an identity thief, a con-artist…. a Democrat, running under a banner that’s not her own.
This isn’t about “Moderates v. Conservatives”. It’s about the very core of Republicanism. Republicans understand that this country is a Democratic REPUBLIC, rooted in Law. They understand that their powers are not unlimited despite whatever populist issue they’re confronted with.
Pure Democracy is “mob rule”. It’s “two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for lunch”. It has no history of success and has no standing under our Constitution. So, it doesn’t much matter what your constituents want if what they want is beyond the scope of your authority to provide.
You can’t be a “Moderate Republican” unless you’re first… a “Republican”. Scozzafava can snivel all she wants about big mean Conservatives, but at the bottom line… she’s the one who chose to ignore the core precepts of Republicanism.

She just needs to disappear into the dust bin of history. Another RINO gone. Good riddance.

Who said leave Snowe alone? Yes, of course. Having HER there is better than turning it over to a Liberal. It’s NOT like she votes with the other side of the aisle on ANY of the MAJOR legislation that is an afront to Conservative principals. It’s NOT like her ONE vote gives Democrats cover to call the Agenda BIPARTISAN and claim those against it are EXTREMISTS! Yes, having her in there is a NET GAIN for us, not a NET LOSS! /sarc
Like people say, “There are two Parties. The Destructive Party and The Stupid Party.” I often find myself hanging with the Stupid Party but long for another choice than these two.
Sultry Beauty on November 11, 2009 at 9:50 AM
By extension too, since Dede is all about destroying since we won’t play her game, it proves she was NEVER really a member of the Stupid Party.

Damn, now I have to clean my screen and desk from all the coffee. LMAO!!

Ohhhhhhhh, you can call me Ray, you can call me J, you can call me Johnny, or you can call me RJ, but ya doesn’t has to call me Johnson.
Come to think of it, maybe she is a Johnson.
Jerome Horwitz on November 11, 2009 at 10:03 AM
In a year, she won’t be a verb or a noun, she’ll be a footnote.
MarkTheGreat on November 11, 2009 at 11:10 AM
You’re exactly right. I’m a conservative and I admit to getting angry when I see Snowe and Collins moving the needle ever-so-slightly to the right on leftist bills and then voting for them. But at the end of the day, Snowe and Collins are relative centrists, and they will vote for the Republican for Senate Majority Leader. What’s your best alternative to that? A super-liberal Democrat.
I would very much like to go on a RINO hunt, but want to do it in places like South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and other states where a serious Republican has a shot at winning. RINOs in California and New England don’t offend me because real Republicans can’t possibly win there.
Outlander on November 11, 2009 at 1:38 PM
You have to keep your perspective! Snowe and Collins held the line on the “public option.” They’re generally ok on judges. I don’t mind having them in those seats, although I admit I wouldn’t want the RNC spending a great deal of money helping to get them elected. They are the best you’re going to do in those states. Better to have someone in there who votes for you 20% of the time than 0% of the time, especially if you don’t have to pay for it.
And who cares if Obama calls a bill bipartisan because one GOP person voted for it? Nobody in their right mind believes that the Porkulus bill was bipartisan.

Scuzzifatti is a liberal tool soon to be appearing on a venue near you.

Yes, absolutely, moderate and liberal Republicans: Let Dede Scozzafava do for your campaigns what she did for hers.
