Ramirez: What wall would Obama choose?
posted at 11:36 am on November 10, 2009 by Ed Morrissey
Barack Obama skipped the 20th anniversary celebrations of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the climax of the Cold War and the victory of liberty over statism and totalitarianism. Michael Ramirez of Investors Business Daily wonders what kind of a wall would have to fall in order to gain Obama’s enthusiastic attention. Given where Ramirez works, and the kind of policies that Obama has pursued, this seems like a natural answer:
Perhaps at that celebration, Obama could regale us with tales of Foot Rustlers and Tonsil Vultures, while Nancy Pelosi explained the villainy of an industry that had the temerity to get a 3% return on its investment.
Ramirez has a terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives a fascinating look at political history. Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here. And don’t forget to check out the entire Investors.com site, which has now incorporated all of the former IBD Editorials, while individual investors still exist.

For the blinded-by-the-One peeps a question:
If ending Capitalism and/or American hegemony was Obama’s goal, what would he be doing differently than all of his actions to date?

At one time, the concept of the cartoon would have been outlandish. Not now.
On the plus side, it would be an opportunity for Barry to talk about himself a little….

Not only is Ramirez a great cartoonist, he did a wonderful job training the Highlander.

For Barry, every public event or interview is an opportunity to talk about Barry. He is just so impressed with himself he can hardly contain himself.

Ramirez was drawing for The Boston Globe when I started reading the op-ed pages. His cartoons were the one thing I always looked forward to in that stodgy paper. I feel as if I grew up with him.

Tragically, an all too true depiction.
Ramirez used to make me bust my gut with his witty toons, now I am just saddened by the accuracy of his illustrations.

Part of me wants to believe that Obama is just getting bad advice. What American president wouldn’t want to be at this event? It’s kind of a big deal. Obama and I aren’t that far apart in age, yet it’s like we grew up in two different worlds (or continents, even). I am most inclined to think that this admin is so partisan that they prefer to ignore any success achieved by the other party, no matter how major. Surely, SURELY, it’s not because Obama and his cronies are so deeply socialist that they consider this to be a day of mourning, right? Because that would just be too scary. No matter what, it’s embarrassing for the United States. And, in the absence of any substantive words from the White House, what ARE we supposed to think? Perhaps we’ll just have to chalk it up to yet another EPIC FAIL by a gaggle of bumbling amateurs.

Sad but true.
I’m sure our border wall is another… let those in who he hopes will be dependant and fill the ACORN coffers…

Ramirez should have changed the wording to:
“Mr. President, tear down this wall.”
Having to explain your own joke by saying Wall Street and putting “Street” in red is too much.
Also, it’s closer to Reagan’s actual quote with the added bonus of Obama addressing himself.
Good effort, though.

Yeah, maybe, but didn’t ya think they’d play it more subtle than this? I mean, come on, my 10 year old’s better at swiping cookies from his little sister than this clown cabal.

I am exactly the same age as Obama. And I was thinking about that yesterday. How amazing it was to watch this happen and the countries open up and communism finally be discredited… It was goose bumpy inspiring!
But, I wonder, because so many of those Obama associated with during this time… if it was as exciting for them.
The man his white grandparents chose as his black mentor growing up was a marxist. He had a far different view of good and bad, right and wrong, when it came to communism.
I wonder if he was excited at the time. Or was he appalled that they couldn’t get that perfectly equal system right over there.
It might have been a day of mourning for him.
His view might be closer to Gorbachev’s view than mine. Mixed feelings.

The “progressives” see anti-communism and the war on terror as preoccupations of the right-wing and they want us to downplay them, if not forget them entirely, so that we can all move into the awesomesauce progressive Great Society they have planned for us where the lion lies down with the lamb and stuff.
No guts. No integrity. Empty blather.

As we approach Veteran’s Day, I wonder what Presidents Truman, Kennedy and Johnson would say about our sudden shift towards Marxism/Socialism/Communism, in light of nearly 100,000 Americans dying while fighting communism in the Korean and Vietnam wars?
Either defeating the evil of communism was worth the sacrifice, or those icons of the Democratic Party threw those lives away, only to have their party embrace the ideology they fought against.
