Clinton to Dems: “The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning”

posted at 5:27 pm on November 10, 2009 by Allahpundit

Bob Menendez made a reference to “teabaggers” last week and Tapper tweeted something about how you never know when a politician uses that term if he/she is aware of its sexual application.

I’m pretty sure the Clenis is aware.

Former President Bill Clinton told a room full of Democratic senators Tuesday that passing health care reform — which he failed to do 15 years ago — is not only a moral issue but also “an economic imperative.”

Clinton argued that even “the most cold-hearted person” ought to support health care reform simply from an economic standpoint. He reminded Democrats of the political momentum their failure to pass reform in 1993 delivered the House of Representatives to the Republicans the following year…

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said Clinton described the ongoing tea party protests against the Democratic agenda as a sign his party was making progress.

Whitehouse quoted Clinton arguing: “The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning.”…

He stressed to Democrats that they can always go back and retool initiatives and amend whatever overhaul they pass, calling it, “a big complex organic thing.”

I think he’s right that they’re winning, actually, if “winning” is defined in terms of whether a bill passes or not. The abortion death struggle will give Reid a headache and they’ll probably have to end up dropping the public option, but Clinton’s strategy is a sound one: Pass anything you can pass now, then spend next year doing whatever it takes to woo voters and minimize the inevitable GOP gains in the midterms. The ratchet on federal entitlements only turns one way, i.e. towards expansion, and it’s a lot easier to make the ratchet turn when Congress’s every move isn’t under the media microscope the way it is now. All they have to do is ask themselves a simple question: Do they think they can hold both Houses next year? If yes, then the smart thing to do is to pass whatever they can, bid a few vulnerable Blue Dogs farewell, and use their reduced majorities to finish the job on the bill next year, under the radar while some other issue has America’s attention.

As grim as the polls are lately for ObamaCare, Ace is probably right that only a further steep slide into the 60+% realm will scare enough Dems in the Senate that the entire initiative will have to be scrapped. Which, of course, was the point of sending the Clenis to the Hill today — to remind them, in physical form, of what happens in congressional elections when major health-care bills are taken up and then dropped. No wonder either that the GOP is trying to kickstart tea-party activism anew: Until just this past week, ObamaCare’s polling reached its nadir in August, during the townhall protests. If popular outcry can spike again up to or near the 60 percent range, Senate Blue Dogs may feel they have no choice but to walk away again, 1994 notwithstanding. Exit question: Who’ll end up teabagging whom?

Update: A centrist Democrat from a newly red state holds a finger to the wind and sends a signal.

I’ve reached the point where I can’t wait for the fool to get “caught” again with his….uhhhhh…..cigar planted in another slut. It’s going to happen….is undoubtedly happening on a regular basis. Slick has a thing for adoring females and Hillary obviously is NOT dancing the mattress mambo for the father of her child, so he’ll get caught – literally with his pants down – and we can all finally be rid of this national embarrassment.

Axeman on November 10, 2009 at 6:13 PM

Their going to get it done. Get ready for a new entitlement and then the Tea Party movement really begins to take off. It’s amazing the bloggers don’t think that we are not going to have something that resembles a revolution. I don’t mean violence, though that’s always possible and let’s pray it never happens, but a huge patriot movement that will reset this nation to it’s origins.

Elections are meaningless the way the process has been perverted. Think a bunch of close elections where they find votes stashed that put a Dem over the top won’t be responded to next time in a completely different manner?

In the US, the four hidden dynasties that socialists have infiltrated will need to be reset – Education, Politics, Economic, Religion.

I just don’t see patriot America standing by as they are lead to the marxist slave state. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. God’s law.

This delusion that the reason they were thrown out in 1994 is because they failed to impose HillaryCare on the nation is simply amazing.

If yes, then the smart thing to do is to pass whatever they can, bid a few vulnerable Blue Dogs farewell, and use their reduced majorities to finish the job on the bill next year, under the radar while some other issue has America’s attention.

No … Obama is in a death spiral and his inexperience and naivety are causing huge issues to balloon on him now. Health Care isn’t the only problem he has – he’s going to have TOO MANY next year.

He can try to resurrect something after the elections and that’s a pretty stupid tactic. It would have been like Bush attempting to resurrect his Social Security plan a year after it bit the dust. But you know what? Bush would have had a lot more success with that tactic than Obama will because Bush was at least a competent politician – which Obama is not.

When you’re talking about BHO’s skillz … Hillary was right … “He made a speech” … but speeches won’t bail him out. His administration is in chaos and look like High Schoolers.

Don’t attribute more “smarts” to the administration than they’ve actually got – which ain’t a lot. I could tick off a huge list of their eff-up’s … but in the interest of brevity – I won’t – because y’all already know all of ‘em.

Why because even the Cold-hearted will want to see the economy sent down the toilet?

Libs live in their own heads. Bubba showed up for a rally in Virginia and how many people came? ROFL. He’s just trying to gin up support. Bozo knows he’s in deep, but Bubba ain’t gonna actually help him.

I think President Clinton detests Obama, and this is like Katie Couric giving advice to the GOP. Clinton is giving the Dems the advice that will ensure complete and total failure of the Obama Administration and ensure Obama is a one-termer.

That’s the way I choose to see it! Clinton then would assume the mantle as the only successful 2-termer Democrat in quite some time.

The use of the word is deliberate, and the recent increase among prominent politicians, including the Chief Executive, could be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to stoke up anger–justified anger–which they then hope would cause someone to do something they shouldn’t do and thereby save their bacon, politically, for they are losing and they know it, just as Timothy McVeigh helped cause the GOP problems in the mid-90s.

To be a Democrat is to be dishonorable. If and when the unfortunate happens, stand your ground. They intend to roll over you no matter what, to crush you no matter what, so there is no reason to try to curry “reasonableness” points. They deliberately insult you to provoke you. Stand your ground, maintain control of your dignity, and do not forget.

Horatius on November 10, 2009 at 7:11 PM

for they are losing and they know it, just as Timothy McVeigh helped cause the GOP problems in the mid-90s.

Revise and Extend: What I mean is they know they are losing the battle, politically, and are hoping for some kind of Hasan incident from a conservative as the means of salvation.

It is their Battle of the Bulge offensive.

To be a Democrat is to be dishonorable.

Horatius on November 10, 2009 at 7:17 PM

I get so offended by that term, when it pertains to people that go out, and peacefully protest policies they don’t agree with. Clinton should be the last person hurling out any kind of offensive term, considering his history. He’s a pig.

And trying to use guilt, or any other machination is beyond my comprehension. Why do I have the feeling that the Clintons will be exempt from having to get on this health care nightmare train? Every liberal, espousing about doing what is morally right, get on board. Join up. Put your money where your mouth is. Once you get your mouths out of the gutter that is.

Mark Warner. He will be Obama’s man to beat in the primaries, because he has the creds to get the “independents” that vote Democrat to seriously look at him. I was really scared of Warner in ’07. I thought Obama was a fantasy, and that Warner was the one who had the political qualifications, positioning, and savvy to give Hilary a run for her money. I was as surprised as Obama when he began to win primary races. Warner is a force to be reckoned with down the road, and he’s firing a shot across Obama’s bow right now.

Simon, like the others I mentioned earlier, don’t want to talk. They want to hurt and harass–nothing more. Their idea of ‘discourse’ is insult and personal affront. Simon resented my earlier claim to that and responded with…~drum roll~…personal denigration!

Gee, that didn’t prove my point, did it?

Scroll back, if you doubt, to see the exchange. A troll, lacking anything else, went off on my mom.

Simon is typical of that foul breed.

The libs who post here are low-grade psychopaths who need for themselves to be proven right. That’s all they are.

Breaking out a disgraced President to sell a bill of goods that Obama can’t sell won’t do any good.

Thanks, simon. I’m going to use the way you posted against every other lib who I meet. You’re now the poster-boy, their great example. Every time another lib posts, I’m going to dredge up your name and your quotes.

You’re now FAMOUS! And by a conservative, no less.

How’s that work for you?

How are passing illegal and unconstitutional laws, winning?
Oh yeah, this is from Bill Clinton who gave nuclear secrets to China, signed 2 unconstitutional gun bans, and contributed to 911 happening by his pathetic ignorance.

Your bridge is missing you, suppose I throw a cookie under your bridge and you can go back to molesting goats like a good little troll.

Simon has spoken for ALL libs. I will use him in that way. For sake of the goats, of course!

Yes, they do. The only question centers on the degree.

Lock up your children, someone let Slick Willie out of his asylum.

As usual I am late to the party so if it’s been said I apologize….but damn doesn’t this prove this dude will “jump on anything…pulse or not?”
