Clinton to Dems: “The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning”

Bob Menendez made a reference to “teabaggers” last week and Tapper tweeted something about how you never know when a politician uses that term if he/she is aware of its sexual application.

I’m pretty sure the Clenis is aware.

Former President Bill Clinton told a room full of Democratic senators Tuesday that passing health care reform — which he failed to do 15 years ago — is not only a moral issue but also “an economic imperative.”

Clinton argued that even “the most cold-hearted person” ought to support health care reform simply from an economic standpoint. He reminded Democrats of the political momentum their failure to pass reform in 1993 delivered the House of Representatives to the Republicans the following year…

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) said Clinton described the ongoing tea party protests against the Democratic agenda as a sign his party was making progress.

Whitehouse quoted Clinton arguing: “The reason the tea-baggers are so inflamed is because we are winning.”…

He stressed to Democrats that they can always go back and retool initiatives and amend whatever overhaul they pass, calling it, “a big complex organic thing.”

I think he’s right that they’re winning, actually, if “winning” is defined in terms of whether a bill passes or not. The abortion death struggle will give Reid a headache and they’ll probably have to end up dropping the public option, but Clinton’s strategy is a sound one: Pass anything you can pass now, then spend next year doing whatever it takes to woo voters and minimize the inevitable GOP gains in the midterms. The ratchet on federal entitlements only turns one way, i.e. towards expansion, and it’s a lot easier to make the ratchet turn when Congress’s every move isn’t under the media microscope the way it is now. All they have to do is ask themselves a simple question: Do they think they can hold both Houses next year? If yes, then the smart thing to do is to pass whatever they can, bid a few vulnerable Blue Dogs farewell, and use their reduced majorities to finish the job on the bill next year, under the radar while some other issue has America’s attention.

As grim as the polls are lately for ObamaCare, Ace is probably right that only a further steep slide into the 60+% realm will scare enough Dems in the Senate that the entire initiative will have to be scrapped. Which, of course, was the point of sending the Clenis to the Hill today — to remind them, in physical form, of what happens in congressional elections when major health-care bills are taken up and then dropped. No wonder either that the GOP is trying to kickstart tea-party activism anew: Until just this past week, ObamaCare’s polling reached its nadir in August, during the townhall protests. If popular outcry can spike again up to or near the 60 percent range, Senate Blue Dogs may feel they have no choice but to walk away again, 1994 notwithstanding. Exit question: Who’ll end up teabagging whom?

Update: A centrist Democrat from a newly red state holds a finger to the wind and sends a signal.

Clinton is so full of himself he’d F himself if he could reach.

Bill Clinton reminds me of the blind skunk that tried to rape a fart.

nelsonknows on November 10, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Liam, no offense but if you could just ignore the trolls they would soon stop commenting. Trolls don’t troll when no replies to them. You’re obviously an intelligent person and you make good points, why not save that for reasonable, rational people who are truly interested in a real discussion?

beachgirlusa on November 10, 2009 at 8:46 PM

Sorry, but you know Clinton commands a gargantuan speaking fee. He was brought in as a big gun after the Dems realized healthcare would cost them.

alliebobbitt on November 10, 2009 at 8:48 PM

I mean, Clinton was a good President and all, but he left a bad taste in some people’s mouth.

I am a Tea Party Patriot!!!! Just got back from a Tea Party on the beautiful shores of Beaufort, SC…..the Tea Party Express rolled in this afternoon…….it was great, lots of people, veterans, senior citizens, babies and dogs too.

The dems call me anything they want! I love America period!

Coastal Paradise on November 10, 2009 at 9:22 PM

Now we know that Clinton knows exactly what teabagging means – he would be wise to refrain from such wording.

bbh on November 10, 2009 at 9:39 PM

It’s hi-larious that former presidents are now belittling you idjit teabaggers. Marginalization by inches.

Only a simple man measures, um, marginaliztion, by inches.

marginalization that is

bbh on November 10, 2009 at 9:52 PM

He reminded Democrats of the political momentum their failure to pass reform in 1993 delivered the House of Representatives to the Republicans the following year…

OMG!! Its largely because of Bubba’s and Hillary’s attempts to inflict universal care on us all that the Republicans WON in 1994! How stupid can one get?!?!?!?
I see he’s learned nothing!

It’s the “other issue” that has me extremely concerned. What does George Soros have up his sleeve this time to create a crisis?

We are stuck with Jim Webb for another three years. His term isn’t up until 2012. I don’t have a lot of hope for Warner either. He hasn’t been acting like a centrist until last Wed. when all of those votes for McDonnell showed up in the Republican column. He is making noises, but he doesn’t get it yet. I do not trust him and have told him so. He has spent the last 11 months being as socialistic as all the Dems have been. He’s not quite Nancy Pelosi, but he is a Dem. They cannot be trusted. He happily voted for Porkulous. There is no redemption from that.
I think the biggest thing I have learned about Democrats is that they have always had this socialist fantasy of taking over the US and making it a dictatorship. I find that quite shocking and unacceptable. I get it now and will act accordingly.

I know Menendez knows the meaning of D-Bag pretty well seeing he’s the heir to the summer’s eve fortune.

Why is the IMPEACHED former occupant of the oval office involved in meetings regarding policy decisions or any other matters of national interest. What an F-in loser

Viper1 on November 10, 2009 at 11:56 PM

We must not focus on their phrasing – we have to keep up our momentum in the home districts. Americans, please, light up the phone lines against cap and tax,Obamacare, and wreckless spending! Show up, call in, and be heard.

bbh on November 11, 2009 at 12:00 AM

I’m STILL waiting for a left-winger to explain what they’ve won. Do these leftist idiots NOT know this doesn’t end well for them, in either election or at the end of a rope?

bill clinton and his so called wife
have never worked a day in their lives
are corrupt as hell (just watch the clinton chronicles)
and you will see why..

So for him to make tea bagging jokes (well ok he is a pervert and probably enjoys that kind of thing..)
is still bad..

Whatever happend if the clintons offer anyone a fee plane ticket (i suggest taking another flight)..
As their so called friends have a habbit of dying in mysterious airplane crashes..

So tell me, little tardlett. When did insinuating that someone was gay, become an insult to you types? Or am I assuming too much, to assume you’re even bright enough to realize what you’re doing?

I wonder exactly who Bill Clinton is thinking of, when tea bagging comes to his mind? Is Clinton, perhaps, thinking of Dick Armey, when his mind wanders to sucking bags?

Sigh, so many tards, so many questions that will never be answered.

MNHawk on November 11, 2009 at 8:02 AM

Many of those “teabaggers” probably voted for this creep…twice.

Others get what they deserve and the rest of us end up with what we don’t.

I’m sure Clinton would open wide for an inflamed tea bag. That’s his style.

Cybergeezer on November 11, 2009 at 12:06 PM

OMG. Clinton rooting on Senators? If you don’t pass healthcare, you won’t get re-elected? That’s akin to a former emperor of Japan during WWII telling pilots “if you don’t become kamikazees, you won’t survive the war.”

olesparkie on November 11, 2009 at 12:43 PM

This poor bastard hasn’t learned a thing. To say to the dems that they need to pass ANY kind of health care bill and they WIN is just like this loser. It doesn’t matter if it is good for America but that it is good for the dems. He always a totally political prick and he hasn’t changed one bit. Two words will solve this crap. TERM LIMITS.

Warner, I think, might lapse into some common sense soon. McDonnell’s victory chilled him right down to his bones. Everything depends on his healthcare vote. If he votes for that, he is gone but if not, he might limp into victory when his election is up if he shows enough remorse for his Porkulus vote. Webb will be gone in 2012 and replaced by a Republican, provided the Republican nominee is not George Allen.

nyx on November 11, 2009 at 12:54 PM

Regarding health care reform and the national mood:

Republicans draw 20,000 Patriots at the Capitol to buck them up.

Democrats get a lying, notorious fornicator to buck them up.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

David2.0 on November 11, 2009 at 1:28 PM

Winning?
Winning what?

The only thing dems are winning is unemployment for many of their members (insert BJ Clinton joke here) in 2010.

When the 2010 revolt comes crashing down on the dems,
Hey Bill, “You better put some ice on that lip”.

Warner had some comments today that were at least a little encouraging. In talking about healthcare he said that too little discussion about controling costs has occured. I, too, think the Republican sweep in VA put a little fear in him.

Jim DeMint introduced a term limit bill this week and he has co-sponsors. Write your Senator now and encourage this bill getting through committee and to the floor for the vote.

riverrat10k on November 11, 2009 at 2:47 PM

And if anyone calls me a “teabagger” again I will resort to their level and pick the most vile, most racist, most bigoted term to label them with.
I have reached my limit with the left using this derogatory term so freely.
How ’bout “..ex-president and known adulterer, pervert, and oral-sex-with-your employees advocate Bill Clinton said today….”

riverrat10k on November 11, 2009 at 2:55 PM

Clinton and the like use the term only because they are protected from the average citizen by bodyguards.
If that scumbag uttered that pejorative in Chilkoot Charlies sans Secret Service personnel, he’d wake up/regain consciousness with a crowd around him daring him to say it again.
It is crystalline clear to me that our POS POTUS has no, zero respect for the American people. The individual no longer exists in his tiny mind, thus eliminating the need for individual liberty. Only the collective has value, and the collective has no need for individual liberties.

And regarding the barking dog trolls… When I pass by a barking dog behind a fence, I do not stop to bark back at it. Doing so would only make me look stupid, and would only serve to entertain the dog.
I also like this one. Try to avoid arguing with an idiot in sight of others. To the passerby, it is not clear which is the idiot.
Obama is a liar and Truth is
killing his Marxist agenda.
Spread it!

A scum bag married to a douche bag talking about tea bags we win

steamin.in.NV on November 11, 2009 at 4:33 PM

I was checking out a dinosaur media article about gay marriage losing in Maine, and a plan came to me on how to nip this “teabagger” phrase in the bud.

Whatcha do is find your local online media, find a topic having to do with gay issues.
Usually the newspaper will prevent disparaging comments such as C***S***er or F**got from going through the filter, but they totally leave the door open for “Teabagger” because their ideological bretheren and leaders use it incorrectly to describe us.

The plan is simple. Use the phrase in it’s correct context and disparage activist homosexuals to your heart’s content.

One of two things will happen. Either it will catch on as the accepted means of demeaning homo’s in the main stream media, or the media will ban it’s use altogether.

Either way it’s WIN!
