I asked a lefty tool friend of mine who still thinks Obama is the best thing since sliced bread why he voted for NC’s democrat governor. He said, “I don’t even know who he is!”. Uh, NC has a female governor. My friend voted straight democrat ticket last fall because that’s what his friends said to do.

That’s awesome. That’s like my friend who was giving me lectures on the Middle East. In the midst of the lecture, she told me that Ehud Barak (!) was currently the President of Israel. I had to stop her there, explain that Ehud Barak was defense minister, that Benjamin Netanyahu was Prime Minister, and that Shimon Peres was President (with no actual powers). Shockingly, she kept talking. And I kept correcting her. It was hella fun. For me. She sounded like a moron.
Or the one who was telling me that Paul Martin was the Prime Minister of Canada (fyi – I’m Canadian). After I finished shooting coke out of my nose, I gently explained to her that Paul Martin was kicked out a long time ago and Steven Harper was Prime Minister. At least that one got the title of the leader of the country right…

Man, these type of videos discourage me. But there are a large segment of people out there that simply cannot talk about politics in any detail at all. Maybe they hate or love the President at any moment in time, but it is purely based on signals they get from people around them.
It’s scary because many of these will go to the voting booth and play follow the leader and vote for the popular choice. On the other hand, it is a lot less likely for these types to show up in an off year election. These are people that might show up in 2008, or 2012, but they aren’t going to be there next year.

I actually suspect many of these people did not vote, though I’m sure a few of them may have gone along for peer pressure reasons. There is a fairly large percentage of people who never vote, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if these people were among them.
As for voting not being a right, I think that’s fundamentally wrong. The idea that the state should be able to evaluate peoples’ capability to vote is a terrible idea. Can you imagine what kind of crap Obama would put on a test like that?
I concede, though, that these people really aren’t helping my case.
