I know that some people will say that me even bringing this up is proof about how much right-wingers supposedly hate America.  But the corollary of this argument is that it’s somehow good to imprison people who don’t buy healthcare if Nancy…

Why is it that so many u.s. citizens do not buy health care insurance? Of the 47 million how many are not americans? How many times do tax payers have to pay for medical treatment for some elses children? If i made 75 thousnd a year and do not buy medical care should my fellow citizen pay for my lack of responsibality.

These leftover 60s radicals have not seen civil disobedience like they are going to see if they try to throw people in jail for not buying health insurance. There will be a movement of libertarians and even anarchists calling on people to drop their policies and refuse to participate. Is the government going to start sending jackbooted thugs to our doors to force us into this? Are there enough prisons to hold all of the new refuseniks?

I reckon it’ll be taken right out of your paycheck, like SSec., witholding, etc. (you won’t even miss it comrade). Those who pay quarterly estimated taxes will be the first offenders to have a warrant out for their arrest. As for the prison thing? Well… kind of raises the question of those fema camps again don’t it?

Another thought; what about all those noncustodial parents who pay child support having to pay until kids are 27? Going to be very bent out of shape I think.

If the majority of Americans do not want Obamacare, who are representatives in Congress representing when they vote for it? And, why is there not one member of the media asking any representative this question?

They are representing themselves, and the arrogant assumption Barack Obama will magically heal all this nation’s ills with a wave of his hand.

I always tell them, if you think those things justify socialism in America, then ditch them too. And they sputter and call me nuts.

They have forgotten or rather, disbelieve, that millions of Americans still with us were born into American communities without any of those things. Those trinkets have been promoted as useful but our county existed and thrived without them.

One problem with teaching American history to children is that adults later find it childlike.

My only point was that simply asking, “If it’s so good, why do you need to force people into it?” is not enough of an argument. It sounds good, and it’s simple and catchy, but it’s not convincing on its own, because that question can be asked of things that we agree are in fact “so good.”

Enough of an argument for what? What test do we have to meet to avoid coercion? I think in this country, the burden is on authority to justify its innovative coercion, not on the public to frame its liberty in a “thorough” manner. A very small child would reject the argument that a command ought be obeyed “Because.” WHY is Obama care so good, we have to force people into it?

Live free… go to jail.

In the military following orders is what you do. You don’t say “Why,” you just do. Failue to do so can costs lives. Following orders is is so much part of the military milieu it hardly needs explaining.

But. If an order is illegal, you do not follow it.

Of the “Bill of Rights” which one I’m I required to pay for under the penalty of jail or fine?

We don’t need taxes to have police. We need taxes to have paid police. We don’t NEED paid police, it just seems a welcome convenience.

My premise was that a well-funded police force is a good thing, not that it is necessary. If you disagree, I think you are in the minority. Even if you disagree, maybe you do agree that a well-funded army is a good thing.

Assuming that you agree that there is *something* that taxes pay for that is worthwhile, then you should understand my point, which is that Ed’s argument would apply to that thing, but would not be very convincing. Just because a thing is good, that doesn’t mean that it will be well funded on a voluntary basis.

Implied, hell. He asks why must people be forced into it at all, which prompted a spiel on the beauty of the corvee instead of an answer.

Are you objecting to my use of “implied?” I said that Ed implied that if people are forced into something, it is necessarily bad. Do you disagree that he implied this?

The real answer is, that socialized medicine will so obviously work as badly as all other social services, that we are better off without it, and this is recognized by too many people for it to exist as a voluntary option.

I am not sure how to respond to this tautology. I maintain that the Constitutional arguments are not relevant to Ed’s argument and to mine.
